well as guys said before and I'll repeat in case any reader is new OG player - and very welcome - you do this campaign at this level only if want real challenge and maybe ex-PG2 user from the 90s. I've played Blitz & Millers conversions tens of times with various files. Problems are cap values which will prevent any rewards at one point in campaign so there will be need for selling units and having small core is necessity. I recommend various conversions by Pzmaniac instead. As for Oronzo file it had some interesting solutions and stats you will miss playing without airforce, too. However i really doubt that new players are interested in this part of game's history anyway with all options and files OG offers, but thought to say as "warning" anyway :)

Nothing to report in first 5 scenarios - started few days ago with older version and installed latest exe yesterday, just for technical details sake. Gamewise i'll report rarely, after group of scens to give a glance of the army shape. Again guys playing this before me (esp Lvjtn) were right, although i said i'll never use low cost again, it is fun and had flashbacks from some days long gone with experiences so far even if excitement of early 2000s can't be brought back (nor my look from those days). Don't expect to have much of aviation as noted in others threads, don't expect to play too fast, don't even expect to finish for sure as some later scenarios are tough and not sure how AI will behave (in last case excuses to new host here Para if it become just a mess to clean) ....Bought some cheap units just for numbers and to cover ground, had some problems at Sedan already with tanks but effective artillery and recons saved the situation, after i retreated damaged "tankettes"

thanks Csaba - not so much toughness (but i am tough)) more mere experience as seen from my words how i do it...

another 6 scenarios of which only Tobruk was problematic as AI packed around port VH and careful planning was needed to break into it on last turn. All the others really "on autopilot" culminating with BV-7 at Novgorod, but at this level no need to chase flags around so I play just to be able to score, leaving many enemies sitting around alive after i dig my way... Talking about AI, it was mostly unusually passive and uninterested for fighting, while my coloumns passed by, alright :)

from this perspective and distance SSI campaign path really looks unbelievable easy, although they made great and iconic games, main German campaigns from PG & PG2 are not best of design even compared to things like FG or AG, imo. Again, easy to say after you went through them so many times.... Oronzo's walking guns are also handicap for AI and advantage for the player. Core-wise at this point i almost and mainly have (with addition of few more ATs) all what i need to finish this campaign - in quantity not quality. At least in PG2 and most of Jan's conversions. So far no trouble with AI planes - it pushes one in, detect my ADs and do not move rest of (eventual) airforce for a turn resulting in many of its planes not seeing many action and surviving the fights. Somehow i think it'll happen later as well when numbers are much greater....

A bit bored at the moment, hence nice to see people like Csaba doing it at last once a year :D and he plays a lot of other stuff, runs sites and design something. maybe had enough of blitzes through the years but my trouble is that some newer campaign - while nicely designed and challenging - somehow doesn't suit me totally. But that's my problem and talked enough for this report - advancing on Moscow, over.

unplanned and sooner than expected but in a way crucial report as this campaign point is, due to mentioned reasons too old too repeat... so, after Klin my army was around 7000 - even though i attacked Klin recklessly and lost core recon & arty while trying to secure targets in BV time, which i missed regardless of path neccessity - and i started 1942 without money. Sold lots of units and got to point and value below i.e. just under the cap. Had enough prestige to upgrade free core and put extra strength on most of them, but now again not enough prestige to upgrade before I attack Stalingrad just as 2 range tanks are available. No choice as further selling is not an option and would be too risky and already lack firepower. due to unadequate AT and bomber coverage using arty hits as means of softening enemy armor etc

after reporting here do not expect to hear soon from me, was a blitzy weekend and i rushed to reach caps of Volga intentionally. but we'll manage, why do you think we are not dressed as German sailors, over. (nice film i always remember when doing blitz don't know why)

but why did you push so hard? :dunno victory (as you wrote) is mandatory at klin

i'm curious how far you can go with such a cannibalized core, i guess you can update an overstrengthen the free core units, but there are scenarios where the quantity really matters. e.g. i'm playing leningrad now, and buying a 9th arty made it much easier

my guess is till the end. artillery in files like Oronzo & WK really covers other weak points in players core. Simply couldn't afford something like that caliber-wise playing with AK or BP etc. even at 100% and used to finish them with 105 or 150's. Here is easy... of course, now cap is going up and i'll expand my army for more AT, AD and ATY just to be clear it's not final state in size.

with AK, BP and all later high cost files i had a good reference of the army size needed, before i did WK at 0. From this point it is all about tactics and positioning really (and after as many years i really have a plan of movement and positions with most effect in every scenario in this camp, not expert for all of camps around) while OG AI has its pros and cons for this type of campaign - something you spoke about among others. With prices around really relaxed but we both agree that some later scenarios will not be BVs probably but can't tell nor important if do not have all of them, hadn't in WK version as well.... as for initial question (Klin) i rushed just to see if fast BV was possible for me, it wasn't. training around. Looking at army you called canibalized can tell it has much less horses and more power than ex-BP version at this point :lol we already talked enough about really really old work for us, thanks for earlier info Csaba

lets move a bit in space and time... while approaching Stalingrad crossed Volga by the central bridge and then spread my army north & south, missing BV by turn. decently attention demanding but fun and different in style to pg2 days but not drastically. AI - left with many units alive west of river - attacked my starting position defended by one auxie although only with recon and plane but even that is enough for its defensive setup, was just fun moment, not in regard to outcome... In Vipuri i was much faster scored lt BV but prototype arrived only after uninspirational Winterstorm, Ferdie. Not bad even if something more speedy is desired, but will be fun as tracked fort blowing up Shermans in desert :)

judging by WK report which i checked before the start and where i stressed out two upcoming fights as harder i also prepared tiger with overwatch for the ocassion. As for leader setup, now finished, i hoped for maybe more arty leaders (as arty is mama in old files) but tanks were fastest to reach bars as ever. Expected no airfight in this run but as I got that proto fighter, just to add that air war is interesting in this file, taking down enemy planes without being attacked so far...

....however it's been attacked in Tunisia and brought down to danger level prompting me to sell it before NW Africa :p Not an easy decision as it's free core after all but had to do it as solo fighter couldn't affect the air battle in any way and looked like i'd lose it soon. Upgraded the tanks with money... Lost, first time since Klin, free core unit - tank with CS leader, worst of all not during AI assault but during my offensive phase in Tunis. NW Africa was, as expected, maybe most demanding so far although i played it very slow and careful, maybe aiming TV from the start and that was result. If you play camp for the first time mind not to lose any flags during the battle as AI wins that way, due to lack of VH for it (or edit scen to give VH to AI, recreativelly). Tough one in any way at this level, couldn't really go around AI forces, only through them constantly on edge of being left out of ammo/fuel... Zitadelle standard BV, or BV standars as you wish, no proto.

dislike next 2 setups but have to do them if I plan to finish, but later... Changed all tanks to Panther As before reporting, can't really buy anything even if needed sometimes:
