The last player of this CC was Comrade Thomson - that was over 4 years ago. So it's time to bring this old campaign back to the daylight.

The first scenario was unspectacular. I distributed my units evenly all over the map and tried to take as many flags as possible (next the obligatory VH's). I finished in turn 6 because one unit was surrounded with no ammunition and would have been destroyed in the following turn.

The core includes 3 Battalion HQ. They are expensive and pretty useless because they can not move. And [C] is are missing.

What the hell is wrong here?
I started several times and did not reach all goals. There are a lot of hidden VH's. Some are visible in Round 2, many others only when my own unit enters. I thought that I had taken all the VH's within the BV, but it did not end. I sent all the units out to find the last VH in the hedges. No Chance.
In desperation, I downgraded two of the three HQs to para-engineers in the last attempt.

5 The Guns bv-1

It is a short and intense fight. I have given all units full OS for the first time. There was not much left of this at the end of the scenario.
During the scenario, the player receives different reinforcements. The infantry is useful. She attracts the support fire of the German artillery and helps to take the VH from the north. The cruel design continues - teleported German reinforcements in the middle of my units and two VH's with about six-fold stacked entrenched Panzergrenadiers :disgust .
The street is lined with German sniper. My job is "Engage the enemy wherever he appears". The snipers are not a real threat, as they only have 1 ammo and can not move. I could just ignore them and pass by ...

7 Carentan bv-1

the first part of the scenario is dull. The reason for the 19 rounds to the Bv is that most of the units are set very far away from the VH's, can move only 2 or 3 hex per turn, and half the time is up before they even fired the first shot.
Then it will be interesting. The attack and defense values of the German paratroopers are similar to those of the American. Therefore, many combat results are balanced, no side has an advantage. Only with the arrival of the LB as reinforcement turns the tide in my favor.

yes, Doug had a serious fixation about creating stacks :thud be prepared you will find more

regarding the hidden vhs at d-days scenario: the problem is that they are owned by ai, so it sometimes never enter these hexes (it shouldn't) . i don't really like to edit old scenarios, so what do you think about adding a warning in the cc19 announcement?

In my case, the last VH was not owned by the AI, but my units just did not hit it. It was a neighbor hex of a battalion HQ and the HQ can not move, the other units too far away. The terrain is completely covered with hedges. All units move only 1 hex. Once you're heading in the wrong direction, you can not fix that in the short amount of time.
The map can be previewed in the suite beforehand, but to play scenarios only with the help of the suite is not desirable. That is not my style.

The loss is not a problem because the campaign is almost linear and each player progresses with a loss. There are no prototypes and therefore BVs are not important for "survival".

Nevertheless, I think that a small hint in the announcement can not hurt. Then no player can claim that he did not know what game he is playing in here.

you play with a too old exe containing some serious victory condition bugs, and this scenario has very strange victory conditions: p2 (ai) doesn't own any vhs at the begining, and it doesn't need to take all vhs, only a few hidden vhs. so it doesn't matter how many vhs it takes in the first turn, it loses immediately when it finishes its gt-1

Luis and i worked hard to detect and fix all stituations handled wrongly by opengen, and hopefully the current 0.93.3.* fixed all of them, like this

The fight takes place almost exclusively between the auxiliary troops and the Germans.
My units are behind an impassable river and the bridges are blocked with fortifications (so-called "Awaiting Orders") that have 150 GD! I try to blow them up, but I only damage the paintwork.
After a few laps on the other side of the river several motorcycles without petrol / without movement appear (so-called "Orders received"). They stand 2 hex away from the fortifications and have 150 HA.
I'm too busy with the lack of agility of these units and overlook the fact that they have range 2. I notice this mistake only in the next round. Then the way to Bastogne is free and I reach the city in time befor the Germans.

The scenario could be good to play if there are not consistently teleported units arriving on the map. Also have i rarely seen such a number of Jagdpanthern and Königstigern. I think that is completely exaggerated.

while reading your reports i remember how frustrating a few oldschool design elements were for me too. well, it's an old campaign, and in those times the possibilities of a designer were limited. the basic concept of the campaign is interesting and exciting, it's a pity it hasn't an openized version fixing the strange things

The frustration has been limited for me. I played with the recommended core and bought additional units only on instructions. The only exception: 3x static HQ -> upgrade to para-engineers. That was very helpful.

I fully agree with you. Personally, the teleported reinforcements bother me most. These can be really dangerous. With the other criticizable design elements can i live, I can arrange myself.
