Ok, this is completely new territory for me. While playing, I never made sure that a unit was totally OP.
Also I am not really sure, if 150% is enough pp for me, since I am not a good player and LXF File is still new for me. I think I will cheat a little bit, if there is no chance for me to finish the campaign.

Battle of Sesena

I let the tank in the northeast and destroyed some units with it. The recon should capture one VH in the west, but it can`t kill the defending infantry.

This terrain is awful. :irate

I only got a ltv. I used my weaker units to capture the VHs west of the river. Only the :monster and my recon tried to capture the VHs in the east. The recon got a real nice leader and my fighter could shoot down some planes.

Battle of Grodno

This was really chaotic. I didn`t know ehere the polish will escape (yes of course into a escape hex but which of them I had to save :lol ). The first two attempts I loss. In my third attempt I used my second tank to secure the fleeing route of the second left EH. That helped a lot. Also I could overrun many units with my tank. I bought a second bomber during the scenario to find and weaken the polish troops. I will sell it in HQ. Got a nice proto for my first BV.

Raate Road

I cheated a little bit, because I waited until the first finnish troops appears. I missed the BV very close. But that is okay, because I had the chance to a BV only because finnish infantry did crazy attacks on my :monster . Some died instantly, because also my artillery was firing on them.
I lost my second fighter, because he had no fuel anymore. This is something new for me. I bought a second fighter again.

Many of LXF no auto refit campaigns give enough prestige @100% to constantly refit using green, a few units even elite if necessary.
While the usual tactics of grinding core units down to 1-2-3 Strength Points will be too costly in the long run, "normal" tactics should let you keep enough prestige for purchases and upgrades. And since you play @150%, no need to be shy :)

don't be afraid, as Chris wrote: Björn's prestige settings are very friendly, you can easily recover 30% loss at 100% by using a combination of green and elite replacements (it's worth to keep at least the exp points what you had before the scenario for each units unless they have already 5 bars)

Vyborg Bay

From now on I will try a BV in every scenario and this one was hard. This was my third try. All earlier tries were only normal victories, since everytime I missed to take two cities. As the SH in the northwest seemed to be to far away for my :monster I upgraded my infantry into paratroopers and flew them into the wood west of the SH. That worked very good. :cool
My tank ran from the east to the two VHs at the Bay in the west. Unfortunately a bunker had a lucky shot and he got further damage. This will be expensive to refit my core troops. Also I am not so satisfied with the kills of my :monster

Battle of Bialystok-Minsk

I have a little problem with scenarios like that, because I had to change some units only to have enough units that are able to reach the EH in time, because I missinterprated that 10 core units must escape, but it seems that it also works, if a total of 10 units escape. :irate
But restarting only to get higher values is also cheating for me. :P

Escape, must survive , must kill x units etc. (or victory conditions general) always count for the side (S1 or S2) not per player (P1..P4) :winkgrin

and keep up your good run! As not so :grumpy player :lol , your feedback is very useful to me. :yes

Yelnya Offensive

Again I needed more than two hours to get a BV. Normal victory always was possible. :dunno

In my last try I gave the :monster the stringest artilerys and another T-34 to his site. Together they attacked from the northwest. I tried to be fast through the initial defense line and destroy the coming german troops who want to flee. That works, but in my last turn unfortunately my T-34 had only 4 ammu (because he can`t overrun a unit the turn before, although combat result predictions sayed that it will be possible), otherwise it could gain a lot more kills.

Interim conclusion to the campaign:
- diversified scenarios
- make a lot of fun

Battle of Moscow

Started with my :monster in the middle, overrunned there almost every units (especially the second line with all artilery) than turned north, overruned the german tanks and in the last turn nearly viped out all enemies in Klin. My paratroopers took the airfield. The new bought german infantry was very kind and didn`t try to recapture the VH. At the end I nearly got an heart attack, because I saw that in the west was another VH, but luckily I didn`t need it to BV, because it is only a VH for enemy. :nods
I also capture the SH in the north but I am not sure if this was needed.
:rip to my flak, but without sacrifising it, I maybe wouldn`t have get a BV.

:cool This was the first scenario which I could win BV in first try!

Second Battle of Kharkov

Phew, that one was really hard to get a BV, too. :phew

I didn`t used most of the infantry aux units, because it is prohibited to lose more than 15 units.

I first built a bridgehead and payed attention to stay under the german radar. Than I enlarged the bridgehead with my :monster and built positions. :monster with C tank drived into the south and awaited the germans. A T-34 and aux pak awaited the Pz IIIH and other units from the southwest. Two other tanks tried to capture the central airfield and fought against the germans who are coming from west. Aux cavalerie and my infantrie stopped later the germans who are attacking from north.
In the air the fight was really heavy. My planes lost a lot of SP. They are really weak at the moment.
At the end the BV seemed to be out of range. But I bought many cheap recon planes and weakened units to can overrun them. At the end this helped. I wanted to overrun a unit near the central airfield but before I attacked a 11er infantry with :monster . He killed it by losing some strenght points too. This is fine. So he get more experience. :cool

After the broken graphik on the map I had some other bug. The values of my :monster like munition, fuel and so on are really strange.

Hopefully this will be over after this scenario.

Meanwhile the waisted time for getting all BVs since I know that it needed is growing up to 4 1/2 hours. Just saying...

Probably I will make a pause for a few days, because I have some other things to take care of.

what do you think is strange? exp is 2952, fuel is 101/114, ammo is 0/11. they seem to be legit values for me :dunno

@Csaba Yes you are right. The foint size is the problem. Since on the picture the T-34 has no ammu it can be seen better, but if he has full ammu, the values looked broken.

Battle of Voronezh

I wanted to play along, but this scenario is a way to exaggerated, especially since your army is so weak than mine. The ai has so many recons in this scenario like in the whole PG2 Guderians Strategie campaign. :lol
Also there is no way to get a hand on the several range 2 anti tank destroyers. And in the air I have no chance.

I tried it three times with a normal defensive line, but no later than turn 8 the ai destroyed a unit of mine. A fourth try I quitted after two turns. I tried to lay mines in the north but the ai is too fast there.

Last try, but different strategy: As holding the central nothern VH is no possible for me I hided my strongest units in the furthest north. I upgraded nearly all my infantry into Commandos. They layed mines and blowed bridges in the east. Nearly all my artillery I drived to the northern eastern bridge. Some other units stayed in the south, but behind the river. I drived all mobile units from the central map into north and south to slow the germans and especially to hold the southern VH. After turn 5 I moved my best group further west. I used the recon plane to overlook the VH at Novosielskoie. Nearly all germans had left the area. In turn 9 I attacked and overrunned all germans in this area and took the VH in last turn.

But I still needed to hold all other VHs for BV. This works because the AI is really silly. :lol
In the south only aux troops defended Nikolskoje-Jemantscha. The germans could destroy the defending unit. But instead of capturing the VH they attacked a mortar unit and it retreated into the VH. The AI had no units to attack further and can`t capture the VH anymore. :lol :lol :lol

Wasted time only for this scenario to get a BV: 3 1/2 hours; since scenario 6: 8 hours

Again a scenario in which all BV is just useless and silly, because it always ends after 10 turns...

well, the most important "rule" of any cc / mtc here is this: "have fun!"

so if chasing the BVs is a pain in the a*s for you, it's not worth to push it so hard

anyway, i played 5 turns of this scenario yesterday, but i haven't met any problem, except it's so boring to wait for ai to finish its turn. i guess the big difference is that i have four range-6 guns (2-2 of the operating in north and south in this scenario), and i had no problem so far keeping the german guns away from the key vhs, though the luftwaffe is brutal, not even my better 3 airacobras are able to deal with the german planes :yikes it's important to protect your core by aa/flak guns

Last night I just let the scenario run two or three turns without setting up my own units - i just watch and wait what happens. The german Luftwaffe are mostly just bombers (a dozen?) And there are only two or three fighters that can protect them - it should be an easy game, because auxiliary fighters are also available on the Soviet side.
The German ground forces, however, are overwhelming ...

The first 5 turns there was also no problem on my side. But there will come germans from any side at a point of this scenario. Over the bridge from the central map, over the river. There are too less aux units to pretect my army from all sides, especially my artillery. As I have said the germans have a lot of recons, that sneak behind my tanks and attack my artillery.
And yes, you can shut down a few bombers and yes you can shut down the recon planes easily. But they are not a big problem, because the germans have so many recons that they could see the players defense positions anyway. But the other planes are mostly secured by fighters and the more important thing: I can not attack the german ground troups with my bombers, because then the german fighters always shoot down or cripple my core fighters.

I had a few problems with this scenario (see other thread). Also I always lost a core unit or all VHs. So I tried it now with a different strategy and that worked fine. Attacked the big city with my tanks, than moved west with :monster and T-34 CC and hold the VH, that was captured with my infantry. Meanwhile the other troops ignored the southern airfield and moved from east and west to the EH. :cool
This was more easy as I had thought.

Ok, realtalk.
I will quit this challenge because it is unwinnable for me! I have tried to hold at least enough VHs for a TV, but germans destroyed a tank of mine. I could try to lose, but this will not help me with the problem, that my army is too unexperienced and I am sure I will have no chance to win even TV at Kursk. Maybe I will start a new try in a few days / weeks, but now I am really pissed of. :irate :irate :irate

Conclusion for the campaign:
The campaign has a lot of potential and was fun for the most scenarios. But there are scenarios in which I would say the campaign is not built for average player and I would say even player like Randowe would not manage the campaign. What I critizise is (and what is a problem for average players).

- the overuse of recons in offensive scenarios: The AI can see everything, while the player can be blind. The AI knows exactly where she has to fire (eg artillery). There will be no ambush in a scenario. AI meets the player nearly at full strenght (lose maybe 2% of SP)
- overuse of range 2 tanks and tank destroyers: There is no way to defend against an attack from range 2 for players core army (except he has range 2 Pak). The AI just needs three tanks / tank destroyers to knock :monster out, or at least cripple it that player has no chance for further overrunning. And at 3rd Charkow the AI seems to have 20 of these units. The most annoying thing is that the player has nearly no PAK as aux units. 2 or 3 of 7.62 mm with range 2 and two or three bars would be helpful. Artillery can be helpful but it needs at least 3 bars for each artillery to make damage to german range 2 units. And yes, the player can win scenarios like Voronezh BV, but as Csaba wrote it always will be a pyrrhic victory because player must spent all pp for refits.
- overuse for artillery for my taste: This is a problem, because player have difficulties to gain experience with infantry when nearly everywhere an artillery secures AI infantry
- experience explosion: Until Minsk everything was fine, but than the problems started. It is nice to give the player from time to time new units (in form of saying what it is needed), but the germans are really experienced. I bought new tanks or other units. But they can`t get experience, because they never have a chance in a fight, or nearly all combat results were 0:0. Also it is a big problem with refitting this units, because I tend to use green refits for the most unexperienced units. The germans are too experienced. For me there should be a easy scenario in the middle of the campaign against unexperienced units. This would help to get faster experience for new units.
- BV is too hard imo and that is a problem with the MTC rules
- pp Management: I played with 150%, but at the end the pp only were enough to make refits (green for unexperienced units) and if I had luck an upgrade. I am not sure what will happen with the pp management in the last scenarios, but upgrading is very expensive and there could be a little bit more pp after such pyrrhic victory scenarios for 100% plays.

I totally understand why scenarios like Voronezh are so hard. It is just histrically. The sowjets never had a chance there (but 3rd Charkow is too hard for historical correctless since recapturing the town was very bloody for the germans). But if losing is a conscious option, the campaign is not useful as MTC (with these rules) in my opinion. I really doubt that a BV will be possible for all of the other challengers at 3rd Kharkow (I doubt that there will be anybody who will win this in BV, since the germans are overwhelming and you have to hold two VH which you never can hold imo (you have to hold it 7 turns against these predominance. :huh So I totally agree with you, Björn, that the rules should be changed asap to what you have said. Also a BV at Kursk seemed to be very hard. As I have seen that Csabas units are not that better than mine I fear he will have the same fate like me.

What I would change in a next try:
It is obvious that you will not win a challenge in the first scenarios. You need a really strong army to accomplish the campaign and the BV limit is hard. So I would try to build a second :monster as soon as possible. Almost in every scenario the player has to follow a certain way to get eg a VH, which is hard in time. So a second :monster can be used for the scenario objective, while the real :monster can concentrate in overrunning where the chance is the best. You also need very good artillery (that is the only chance against range 2 units). And strong fighters. So I would leave out kills in the beginning in future to get faster experience with my other core units. So losing this challenge is in some way my own fault, but there are still the critisism that I wrote above.

Rules discussion conclusion:
Next MTC should be tested before establishing rules. Also I don`t see any convincing arguments, why these events should be elte events. :dunno
I am still the opinion that there should be the rule "BV if possible; missing BV because of limited playing strenght is okay, but if the player can win BV he has to". I know that maybe some of you will argue that players can cheat here and miss a BV extra to get better kills and that this can`t be verifyed. Yes, but if you are honest: There are more ways to cheat for a player, eg changing savegame or reloading in CC with the level in which this is forbidden and you can`t verify this too. You are already in a good faith. Also it can be really time consuming only to try to get all BV. I have not tried to get all BV after I heard of that rule just for fun. I just wanted to know how difficult that is and how many time I have to spend. And yes, it needs several extra hours in the most scenarios for an average player.
I am honest. This rule would be also helpful for me if I will try such a challenge as a Let`s Play on my Youtube channel, since it is not possible to record three or five hours until I get a BV. This would be the death for my vocal cords. :rip :lol
But on the other side you could determine the rules. Maybe the pp setting or the whole campaign would have been too hard for me, so I have to break other rules to ensure I can win a scenario mostly in first try. And my aim is not winning a CC or MTC, just being not the knocked off last. :cheers
To make a comparison I don`t need to be in a official rating.

Now I will relax and see how many of you will come with all BV through the campaign :P

1. i called my counterattack at voronezh pyrrhic, not the bv. with a more defensive appriach, this scenario coukd be really easy, but my goal was to kill more by my :monster , this tactics was costly

2. our core aren't the same. mine is 15% more experienced, i have way much better arty section (esp. regarding the range), and better figthers, and your own words described these detachments as the most important ones

Yes, do not be upset! I knew you would have problems here - you lack experience in defense situations. Look at the map of 3rd Kharkov I posted - AI is completely defeated.

How did I do that?

I had tons of aux units to sacrifice.
I had so many aux units that I could play the out-of-ammo card.
I had a river as an ideal defensive position.
I had so much artillery (aux and core) that even the powerful AI units failed.
I had enough anti-aircraft guns to fend off the AI air force.
I had the knowledge, that aggressive AI would move to the nearest VH that has to be conquered. I gave up a VH to redirect the flow of the AI units and get in the rear of the AI.

I see in your youtube Let's Play videos that your playing style is very different from mine and that you are years behind me in OG experience. Yes, it takes years to learn how to play OG! We talked already many times about how to play the game and i gave many tipps, but please please stop mentioning me when something is to hard.

@ Heinz: You have to understand how the AI works. You don't have to keep all VHs in your possession all the time. It is a tactic to give up VHs, redirect the AI and recapture the VH later.

@ Heinz: This is also very important. Use the terrain! When you take a quick look at the map, you can see how to use the terrain to your advantage.

You don't have to build beautiful looking and eye-catching defense formations like in your Falasie Video, when at the end many of these units didn't even had contact with the enemy. Look at the map and use the terrain!

Your tanks aren`t that better than mine. I doubt that one 5 bars tank is enough. Even if holding long enough in this scenario is possible, the question is how these tanks should win experience in this scenario or Kursk with all these range 2 tanks and StuGs. And if you compare your army with Björns army you have a huge disadvantage.

Ok, here is what I tryed:
First try: Build a defense line at the river.

Problem was: Aux artillery has no all terrain movement. I deployed my artillery in the near of the bridges. Germans attacked with range 2 aux units which are holding the area under the forest. The AI broke though my lines there. Also there are not enough aux units in time to make a whole defense line. So I had to deploy some core units also there and one of it was killed in turn 3. Holding the bridges in the west was no problem. In the east the germans had not arrived the bridge.

Second try: Deploy aux units in the middle in the forest and therefore take the defendse line in the east also back.

Problem was: Now the AI ignored the middle and moved with 1/5 of the army to the western bridge. Holding this was no problem and :monster could overrun and destroy some strong units. 4/5 moved to the eastern VH. I could hold this line with artillery and PAK units a few turns. I could shoot down german fighters in turn 4. But than it started to snow until the end of the scenario and one of the german bombers had all weather. :irate I had downgraded one of the fighters into a Pe-3bis to can destroy enemy planes when it snows, but Recon Army Germany had seen them after shooting down a Uhu and german fighters criplle it to 1/10 in turn 3. :irate
My line broke down because of artillery fire (there was no chance to cripple them with my bombers). And yes, artillery helped me long time in this scenario and germans didn´t shoot at my artillery. But germans are not silly. They sacrifized their infantry for attacks and at the end as no artillery had any ammu left, they attacked with range 2 and so capture VH in the east, destroyed nearly all aux units, destroyed my KV, crippled my SU-152 proto. Yes, this was turn 10 but I am not interested in playing this scenario to the end if I lose such an important core unit.

Obviously AI aatacked so hard in the east, since the distance to the VH is so short, but holding at the river is a problem, since AI broke through easily in the middle. :dunno

As I have said playing this scenario is not a such problem. But the question is how should I gain experience with my tanks against these units. If I deploy them on the front, they have no chance to survive because of range 2 units. And if I will not gain experience asap all further attack scenarios will be nearly unwinnable.
The most annoying thing is that you have to let the germans play their first turn again and again and this is so borinbg at a time, because it takes a few minutes. And why the heck most of DH are in Charkow, if player should win BV? There is nearly no time to build a defense line, until the first german recons arrive the river.

Your advantage is just that you have the better experienced army. If my army would be so good I would also try to destroy germans, but I have to take care at the moment that I gain experience. And T-34 and KV makes at the moment as much damage as toy guns. You know the campaign as you are the creator. So you knowed that strong units are needed and made the only right thing: Seeing to make a good army and ignoring some kills and experience at the beginning. So how you have a huge advantage and I would say you have a good chance to win this challenge.
At the beginning the scenbarios were just hard to get a BV in time, but enemies were not strong. So I believed the strenght of the enemies will increase slightly, but now they are suddenly overwhelming.

I would not say that I am an average player in OG. But you has said it more than one time, that you think you are an average player. If I would know who else in this forum is an average player I could have also know him. :P

And you should not compare my playing style in my Let`s Plays and here. In my Let`s Plays I am always in a hurry, because nobody wants to see 3 hours videos and I have mentioned too that it took maybe three hours to upload a one hour video, because OG videos always have a huge MB size (maybe because I have to record the screen, because OBS thinks that things like scenario intro don`t belong to the game). So I will always try to make a short video.

I was just saying that the campaign as MTC with this rules is not for average player. :dunno
Playing this campaign as no MTC it is easier, since you will have earlier more than one good unit, because all other units got the kills from :monster .
Than the campaign is really medium difficulty imo.

You mix things up. I said more than once that i am a cautious player. Most important for me is that i never loose a core unit. So i act cautious and sometimes i am very slow. Maybe i miss a BV when i play that way, but when i have played a whole campaign without a single reload, i am happy. That may look average for you :whatever

You are welcome to discuss this scenario further in the German forum, in English it is too time-consuming for me. Just this - you have to hold the line you can see on the map picture, you can't drop back any further. This is the base of your counterattack to the south and east. There your strongest units should be.

Third Battle of Kharkov

A BV was not possible for me! I tried to do it like Björn said, and yes the most troops moved into the east. But there were enough units which were attacking my defense line in the west. More precisly these units attacked me in the west:
1x Pz IVG
2x StuG IIIG :eek
2x Marder III :eek
several infantry units
3x recons
3x Sdkfz 6/2 :eek
1x 10.5 mm
1x 150mm
1x Wurfrahmen
Also the AI was not silly. It deployed three of the StuGs / Marders side to side :eek and so that it was not possible to overrun any unit in this area. If I wanted to destroy a unit with my :monster I always lost SP through support fire. Bombing was not possible. Artillery is no option, because I need the ammu to give support fire. I don`t know how I should break through these defensive line. :huh

In turn 7 I started a counteratack since the AI had moved the Wurfrahmen, 2x Sdkfz 6/2 and a few infantry units in the north because the aux front in the middle collapsed like a house of cards. Also the AI now had luckily left these support fire overkill formation. In the east I could hold the front, but I had to draw back more and more of my core units, because overwhelming (maybe 7 or so) artillery started firing on them. If the scenario had took a turn longer I would have lost this VH and nearly the half of my army!
Until turn 10 it looked like I can win with a normal victory, since I could hold all three BVs in the north and I also had recaptured V.Orel`ka with aux infantry which starts in the western wood (AI seems to be not interested in killing them, or maybe can`t see them). But in last turn the town was recaptured by germans who are not silly and left some infantry units behind. Also the 13er IVG could capture Merefa, after two overruns. Also I missed to recapture Borki in my counteroffensive for one hex (but could destroy most of the remaining germans in this area).
I will give Kursk a try since there was enough pp to refit all units (most were no green refits), to upgrade some of my weakest units and most important: Give full OS to my artillery. This hopefully will stop overwhelming range 2 units. But it is too bad, that in last turn was snow. If there would have been good weather maybe the attack off CC tank would have been enough to get his third bar.

Battle of Kursk

Got a phyrric victory., Mabe I can get a BV, but this is too time consuming. This scenario had a duration of several hours. Gladly my other tanks get get much experience. I deployed the Flamethrower in the southeast, all other units in the north. Flamethrower got much experience after I crippled it with a 7:6 attack on the 8.8 cm Flak Pak. Later I refitted it and it conquered Belgorod with some aux units and overruned the whole town. Novoselovka, Yakoulevio, Melekhovio, Rzhavets and Bol`shaya Podyarugi I captured with aux units. For the last mentioned town a hard fight started and the town changed several time its owner. Later all my infantry and a tank helped there (this tank I also had to refit during the scenario). Biggest fight were with my core army. Meanwhile I really hate Support Fire by StuGs and Marders. This is such an annoying overrun killer. :irate I also don`t like the several comand recons. They are also overrun killers.:irate
German tanks and tank destroyers could not get terrain win, because my artillery did an fantastic job. After all tanks were destroyed I began the real offensive in the area. At the end I attacked from west with aux troops the german artillery (8 artillerys side by side :eek ) and from east with my core artillery and my :monster overruned all remaining crippled units.

haven't you tried to use this large amount of cash to buy something useful and/or refit badly damaged core?

i won this scenario last night, and i bought 4 range-4 guns with decent attack stats, they helped a lot in my counterattack, and i also refit a few core units, so they could fight more

otoh, i agree with you and Björn, when players play the same amount of turns, other result than bv should be acceptable too, the bv wasn't an easy mission

If I had known that, I would have bought a few artillery units. I have a look on the scenarios before playing, but I dont like to "study" them. New artillery maybe would have helped to stop germans in the middle and hold Merefa to the end. In the east new artillery would not helped, because AI has so many units to attack that at some point all guns run out of ammu and than AI can make big damage.
But even new units would not helped against the german defensive formation in the west that was built just like a good human player would built it. I know that this was very unlocky and did not always happen. But at some point it is just boring and annoying to start a scenario again and again. If there are three tanks destroyers side by side in the middle of the formation, breaking through will be time consuming and with heavy damage and both factors prevent that player can recapture VH south of the river in time. Also I had to left at least one tank in the defensive line, because AI destroyed every turn at least two aux infantry units just firing with artillery on them and I need a unit to protect my artillery and AD.
In the west my units were in a good shape until my counter offensive and in the east refits would have been money consuming, because the money that I would have spent in refits the german artillery had taken next turn. :dunno

I have seen the most important thing and this is that new units only have 70 exp. This will cause only little damage to the germans. Also you have to know that I need a lot of pp for refits. Since I tried to get all BV I have to play very risky and this always cause heavy damage on my units (and it also causes damage that I have to try to get experience with weaker core units). I am not in the situation to refit my army all green. After Kursk I had to sell my Engineers (ok that could not make many experience since I bought it) to give full OS to :monster
If I would buy artillery units there will be always the danger of getting hit (eg by Luftwaffe). I have only 2 ADs and 3 fighters. If the new artillery is getting hit I would not get the full price at HQ and all will become more critical for me.
This is one of the point of what I was talking as I said all BV give a double advantage for elte players. Bad player have trouble with BV, have to risk more and therefore lose more SP and this will add to a huge advantage for the better player because they will have a very better army after only a few scenarios. I doubt that 150% is here a real exchange for me, because campaign has a cap and so often will pp steal.
Anyway I am not interested in getting all BVs anymore. I try to make the scenario as fast as I can to not get a huge advantage, but I will not restart when missing a BV. For this my time is not worth enough.

Zhitomir-Berdichev Offensive

This was not so hard than I thought when looking at the scenario in the suite. My :monster could even overrun 8er Panthers after two artillery hits. If I had used my :monster on the other side of the map the BV would be no problem. The only problem was the little range of KV-85 (otherwise there would have been the chance to maybe 20 kills or so) but luckily now a faster range 2 tank is avaiable. :cool

that's not true. even a 0-bar arty helps a lot to lower the entrenchment level of the defending units, which means your attaking units lose less sp

secondly, you can use your combat support unit(s) wisely and making a green unit to a 5-bar monster immediately. on the long term, a second combat support unit and several cheap and inexperienced units would give you a huge advantage :2cents

luftwaffe was very weak at kharkov, and could be eliminated before 6th gt, and the core and aux flak/ad guns would give you enough protection (ai's planes rarely attacks anything protected by an aa gun), also the aux arty guns could be used as baits for the ai's bombers, which can be hunted one by one

last time you sad my army is pathetic and won't survive kharkov... :lol the real difference is not the strength of our armies but the tactics we use. i really want to help you, that's why i give you some useful hints, like have more combat support units, and using them frequently would enchance the power of your guns and tanks, it's better having more, even cheap and inexperiened arty, it's necessary using the auxes more to waste the ammo of your opponent, otoh it's not worth wasting your money on buying expensive but fragile units like combat engineers, etc. if you listen to me (or any other veteran players), you will find the most scenarios a lot more easier. of course, it's your business :howdy

I agree with Csaba:

- every "active" attack on a unit sets an indicator (lower right side of the screen) that says [S:X H:Y] with S=Suppression (actually Lasting Suppression only, like Tactical Bombers do) and H=Hit. Each suffered Hit dircetly reduces the Effective Defense of a unit and potentially reduces the target's Entrenchment ( "potentially" because it only goes down to [Terrain Base Entrenchment Level], example 3 for city)

- every "passive" attack (like arty which gives Support Fire, when enemies attack) can add a little "temporary" suppression to the enemy unit currently attacking. Also, but don't quote me on that, i think that each unit giving Support Fire also makes the attack a little more difficult on the "Effective" scale (units have "Effective" Attack/Defense, based on XP-bars, Attack, Defense, Initiative, adjacent [C] units). If you have spotting on several enemy arty units and want to attack something in their range, then if you try different targets (1 covered by 4 enemy guns, 1 covered by 3, 1 covered by just 1) you will see even a 5-bar tank will have different forecasts (and if you would do enough tests, also different combat results)

Because of this even a 0-bar arty can have an impact on the combat outcome.
If you change another of your tanks to a [C] unit (and probably add Fast Speed attachment), you could let it start at your artillery and once that fired, send it forth to your infantry/tanks in the frontline. This reduces your losses and increases your kills (either Strength Points or full unit kills).




Also, LXF camapigns generally make use of "modern" spotting rules, meaning: a ground unit with Spot=4 can see 4 hexes in clear terrain, only up to a city/forest, only into a city if 2 hexes away and only into forest if adjacent.

Make more use of terrain:

- defend within city/forest/rough terrain (not in hill/clear)

- hide your Flak in a forest/city hex and leave a tank/arty in the open. Enemy bombers might attack, or at least fly to, the unit in the open, giving your Flak and to damage the enemy bomber and next turn your Flak and fighters might kill it

- if the AI is aggressive (*), then instead of rushing into clear terrain, leave your units in an area that the AI might pass through: hide a Pak/tank in a city/forest hex with a road on it. Chances are the AI won't check the road, but even if: the AI will probably move its remaining units to attack, thus add more units to your Pak, so that you can do combat in the area

Of couse I know that every artillery shot will weaken defenders and that also these ineffective little sovjet guns will weak defenders and I am thankfull for your tipps. :cool But that would not helped me to win 3rd Kharkow, because my problem was that the german line in the west was too strong to break through only with one 5 bars tank. In first line infantry, behind it StuGs and Marders and behind that artillery and flak. Even if I had bought 4 artilleries I would not have won. With luck I maybe could destroy infantry in one turn. But the anti tank gun which will givve support fire to the other anti tank units I could not overrun. Even with 4/10 and cc tank behind my :monster they are still strong enough to prevent overrunning with artillery behind. And there were units missing in my army who could hold the middle. The aux units in this area have no chance against 13er IVG. I tried to block the germans a little bit with my infantry who were entranched in the wood north of the river. But at some point I had to withdraw them, because they have lost many SP and german artillery started shooting on them.
One of my biggest problem is: I have played 10 years a PG2 Efile in which only real Pak units give support fire. I have no strategy to beat range 2 tank destroyers fast enough, because they often give support fire to each other (and they are overused in some scenarios imo) and are mostly deployed in second line. To fight against them is too bloody for me. And yes, I have tried it especially at Kursk to use artillery to weaken these units. But they are strong enough to prevent overrunning (one of the reasons are the several annoying cc recons).
The other thing is that I was really worried about my army at this time. I had tanks and fighters which were inferior to german units, especially comparing the range and experience of the tanks. I had only one tank (and also only one strong fighter) who had a chance to handle with german range 2 units by overrunning. I justed wanted to use all pp to upgrade my army fast enough and concentrate to win experience with my tanks. One 5 bars tank is not enough to win this campaign imo. If the german range 2 units made big damage to my monster I really had a big problem, because it could not overrun effictively anymore. Now all tanks (except cc) are range 2 and they are more experienced and I have more trust in my tanks. :yes From now on I will buy artillery when possible.
I didn`t lose the scenario in this scenario. I losed it in the scenarios in which I tried to make a BV, because refits were too expensive there and I could not buy any other unit after a certain scenario and I missed too much experience for my army, because I always had to hurry and couldn`t concentrate on gaining experience with all units because they were always needed to secure scenario objectives. That`s all I wanted to say. My army just was too weak :dunno
No refit is in some way against my playing style. That`s the reason why I would never create a whole campaign with this feature. Normally I try to make as soon as possible 5 bars to every unit and sometimes cripple units on purpose (eg let an enemy infantry make an assault at one of my tanks). But this is too expensive in this campaign.
I am waiting that one of my infantry will get 2 bars. Than I will downgrade it to a cc unit. I would reluctantly upgrade one of the other tanks, because cc tanks cannot overrun and :monster can`t be everywhere on the map.

Crimean Offensive

I underestimated huch much units will try to flee. At the end nearly all of my air units had lost all ammu. Also I had to forgot to build an airfield. So I bought three Torpedo Bomber. That worked. Deployed my :monster in the south. I missed BV for one turn because in Sevastopol were two (?) StuGs which can`t be overrunned because of the leader and I had to wait a turn to get new ammu. :whine

Finally I was able to buy two new artilleries. I also upgraded one of the Commandos into a cc infantry.

I missed BV for one turn because defending infantry in the southeast didn`t want to retreat. :lol Bought a fourth fighter to get rid of the several german planes.
My :monster overrunned a big area. If he had more speed, more kills would have been possible. Unfortunately in the final turn no units were in range. This was fun.

Belgrade Offensive

I doubt that I can win this BV. I tried it two times but always only get a TV. I proved something that I thought of before. In my first run I used my :monster in Belgrad. It got a little damage fighting against the bunker and can`t overrun always. I had +486 exp and 35 kills. In my second try I thought that I can get more kills when I overrun the troops north of Belgrad. In my second try I nearly could overrun all units. Now I have +384 exp and +37 kills. :huh
So overrunning is not so precious if it come to exp. If you want to get the most exp, player should also take fights in which the :monster will take damage.
Unfortunately I haven`t saved my first try, so I will go on with the try with +2 kills and -100 exp comparing to the other try. :doh

Lake Balaton Counterattack

Again I was one turn too slow for BV. Deployed my :monster in the south and wanted to drive in the north, but aux troops could there also break through early. I tried to get the VH in the north by buying a lot of cheap recon planes to weaken the defenders, but I also missed the two VH in the west for one turn. My new artillery did a good job. This scenario was fun. :cool

Road to Vienna

This scenario is strange in some way when playing it as MTC. Even if you try to get really fast to the german escape hexes you cannot overrun all units and mostly they have low SP and so only give little experience. The other problem is that the :monster can`t used for both river side. I am happy with +29 kills, but how to get more exp is the question. :huh

I forgot to make the screenshots yeesterday and had to play the last turn again. My tank got 4 exp. more, and my fighter -2 exp. It is ok, if the worser statistics are taken. Thats what I meant, when saying that reloading and restarting a scenario over and over can be a real advantage.

Yes, Woronzezh and 3rd Kharkow were just too hard for me and my weak army and in the end I thought I have no time for further tries of the scenarios (because I must go on with recording my LP and switching from Efile to Efile is nothing for me especially if they are so different like Atomic and LXF :nyet ). This prevented better results, but I am happy with the results of a lot of scenarios like Moscow, in which I still have gotten the most exp. Funnily this was the only scenario in which I got a BV in my first try. :lol

But it`s okay. I still have no time to play at the moment, even if I get less jobs because of "Lockdown light" since some idiots have stolen the catalyst of my old Polo. :irate
