Operation Gauntlet

Nothing special. Core-inf moved on land and took all VH without problems. Light inf took the (empty) northernmost VH, aux-engineers the westernmost, both from the water. Some action on the water and in the air. As proto I got something someone called 'tank' in his wildest dreams.

Fire in the Sky

Wanted to buy a battleship but my 20pp were not enough. Well, did nothing at HQ.

Hammered the airforce out of the air, and the inf captured the VH after it had blown the defending 'tower'. On the third GT the inf made a wrong turn and came too late for a BV. On the other hand my ftr won a great leader.

The Darkest Hour

Upgrades
Light Infantry with Horse -> Bren Mk1 with Horse

Bought
25 pdr with Stock Horses
25 pdr with Stock Horses
1.5 inch (an AD)

Ignored the northeastern VH completely. After an easy landing and initial setup of my bridgehead it became a hard fight for every centimeter. Could not expand further at GT 3, and the next GT could barely hold my positions. In the moment I 'retreated' two VH were mine. Because of low strength on almost all units I didn't risk playing the last GT.

Operation Spartan

Bought
25 pdr with Sentinel DG4

Spoiler
A Paratrooper with Bikes comes as an new core-unit.

Core moved to the VH in the middle in no time. There I met first resistance, while my home-VH came under attack. Appearing auxes in the west met some roadblockers on the way to the southwestern VH, but nothing special.

Home-VH survived because of a brave MG-unit. Core had some trouble while conquering the VH in the middle, but all in all it was an easy BV-1 without proto.

Operation Husky

Upgrade
Wasp -> Sherman III
1.5 inch -> 1.5 inch with Sentinel DG4
Hurricane IB -> Spitfire IXB

Core moved a little longer in their boats and made a landing north of the airport. Taking the defences from behind really shook the axis' forces!

The auxes had a hard stand against some aty in the landing-zone, and a busy Luftwaffe didn't made it easier. But the experienced airforce, ships and more and more reinforcements overwhelmed all opposing forces on the coast. Driving inland in the north the auxes met some armoured vehicles. Again the airforce saved the day.

The core took not the long way over the western edge. Instead they moved north to Cassbile and turned west. A few roadblocks had to be taken care of, and the paras got flown in. The Typhoon (I want one!) cleared the VH there in two strafing attacks, paras dropped in - axis' forces wre stunned. The auxes came in superior numbers to the last VH, deleted the defenders and walked in for a secure BV-4.

Normandy or Italy?

Went to Italy.

Operation Baytown

Bought
25 pdr with Sentinel DG4

Upgrade
Hurricane IIB -> Typhoon IB

Made several mistakes and constantly had too much power at the one part and not enough at an other target. Paras were to take the southernmost VH. They did, but needed too much help from my TB, which in turn I missed dearly in the north and the middle. But the paras won Street Fighter, so I will not moan around.

In the middle I allocated too much power for the town and the Italian VH, and not enough for the German VH in the middle of the mountains. Auxes in the north got hardened by a 25pdr and my Bren-MG. This helped a lot, and I don't know if the auxes could have taken the VH on their own.

However I clearly missed the BV by two GT.

Wanted to drive as fast as possible along the coast and send small pincers to the VHs in the mountains.

'As fast as possible' soon became a troblesome thing, as the coast is splattered with MG-nests, pillboxes and the one or other armoured unit. Nothing really dramatic, they just slowed me down. On the other hand there was not too much need for a drive into the mountains, because auxes appeared here and there. One group was good enough to take their objective, the other needed a helping hand from slower and/or worn down cores.

In the numerous snowy turns my paras flew to the northwestern edge of the map and tried to take the airport. Had quite some trouble with the defending unit. My AWC-Spit was a great helper here. Afterwards the paras moved behind the northernmost VH. It's in the town, and the StreFi-leader might be helpful here.

Anyway, the cores' drive along the coast left me with 4 GT spare to capture the VH. Time became critical, as on BV-1 the situation seemed unchanged: I shelled the defenders, and they were only laughing while shooting back at me with all they had. A combined attack from the paras, my Spit and a long-range aux-unit finally blew the VH-defending house, and the paras moved in. Remember, the defensive line towards my core was still intact!

In the mountains one VH had been taken, and now the auxes settled for the final attack on the second one. A nasty mortar-unit could be silenced on BV-1, and under heavy losses the defense could be broken at one point. Some counters were stopped by raining shells, and the VH was mine. LTBV, Achilles as proto.

Kept more than 800pp at the bank and wanted to buy me a Firefly during the scen, but forgot in the struggle. :thud The northern Poles did a great job and took two VH in the mountains. They afterwards defended them against viciously attacking Germans.

In the south american reinforcements appeared, they had no problems taking the first two objectives. The first was an airport, so the RCAF could also join the fight. I had sent my paras down there, and together my forces ran into knee-deep troubles while moving further west, towards another airport. The fight for this VH raged about 4 GT before the resistance could be broken. From this airport my paras got airborne and freed a VH far in the southwest. Meanwhile the Americans, strengthened by even more reinfs, split half. One group moved west towards another VH at the coast, the other group went northeast to a VH at a river. But the resistance was broken, and the south was conquered at BV-time.

The core had major problems to cross the river at the initial front. Deep entrenched and experienced units blocked me, with aty and MG behind them. Around GT 9 I had a wide enough bridgehead on the western side, so my aty could slowly follow the armour and hard fighting inf. There's entrenched aty everywhere, the German drove armoured counters, and countless inf moved up. My AT got worn down to 4 or lesser strength, about half of my inf wasn't battleworthy anymore. The Sherman stood strong, an aty was awarded a leader (a meager Skilled Recon).

With airforce and aty I kept the pressure on the Germans as high as I could, reaching a river near the last German VH at BV-3. From there it became even harder, as the Germans moved armour in, and some Wespe, guarded by FlakPz. As BV-time ticked out, my tk was down to 3sp and I had taken one hex on the other bank of the river. I slowly won the upper hand and made a V on the last possible turn. This. Was. Hard!

The Road to Rimini

Bought
Firefly
Bridging with C15TA
Staghound I

Spoiler
A new Hurricane IV joins the core

Decided to move the core along the coast, while the auxes had to conquer the VH in the mountains. Sent them my leadered aty and an inf for help. During the scen more and more reinfs appeared in the mountains, so this seemed to be the right decision. Bridgers built some more ways over the numerous rivers.

Every river-crossing is secured by static defences, and between them some armoured counterattacks took place. The auxes had a hard time in the mountains, and I sometimes wonder about the weapons they use (tanks in the mountains? A 17-pdr?). At least some were mountain-moving Ghurkas, and they saved the day. Last VH was behind a river, and the airforce had to make some attacks to soften up the defenses.

Core made slow but steady progress. I had to look closely for the 25pdr not to run out of ammo, and that no German range 2-unit survived longer than 1 GT. This way I came up to the middle between the starting zone and the last VH at around BV-3.

And now the Paras stepped into the show. They saw only one short action, here in the end. They were flown to the northernmost VH, dropped behind it, smashed the defending house (it's in fact a house without defense) and walked in. BV!

The Rhineland

Most of the core went east, but some inf guided the numerous auxes straigth south. I forgot one tk at HQ. :shock Except some roadblocks there was no resistance during the first few GT. This changed when I reached the numerous citys along the Rhine. I was so clever to have my SPAT in front when I entered the city limits. This gave a load of German inf the chance to counter. Which of course they did, and my M10 limped back at low strength.

The auxes were hampered by bad ground conditions (the same applied to the core-inf). They tickled a VH somewhere in the middle, while the bulk went further south. The small group was badly damaged after a short clash, only good enough to have a close look at the entrenched defenders while avoiding all fights. The more southern group also had a hard time during the attack on the VH, losing the one or other unit. Other units lost lots of sp. Only aty and some help from RCAF pulled them through. Having taken the VH, I left the battered units behind and moved a bit north to conquer the VH in the middle. With supporting aty the task wasn't too hard.

The cores drove south along the Rhine against quite some resistance. But most enemies were of the static kind and became easy prey after some softening shots. During the fights a load of good leaders rained down on the auxes, while the cores watched with open mouths. Around GT 10 my armour and the leadered inf started to race south, as a number of VH is waiting there. Paras moved there also, and on top a number of auxes appeared. This became the hardest fight against numerous Germans, while the middle could be taken by aty and weakened units. Despite a bunch of AD and Flak, the airforce became the decisive weapon. LTBV, no proto.

Hm, starting in the southeast I have to strike north and west. The way north is on the left side of the river, most VH are on the right side. But there are also lots of VH in the northwestern area. And one far in the west. But at first I had to cross the river, get on the left side against static defenders and lots of aty, and simulaneously save the poor Leon Usachev from prison. Not nice!

Needed 4 GT to get a noteable bridgehead and free Leon, but my best tk won a leader on the way. A SPAT and my paras got crippled, I spent some money to refit them. On GT 6 I took an airport and could use the airforce. Paras got airborn, flew northwest, were dropped behind a nasty entrenched aty and killed it. Then my inf (and two aty) could battle their way to and into the VHs in the middle. Auxes appeared in the northern area and had no problems to take the westernmost VH.

The numerous VH on the right side of the river had to be cracked like nuts, as there is always a nutshell of MG, AD, aty, inf and barbed wire around them. Needed time and patience for every single one of them.

On the way north I lost my recon and didn't even realize it in the fierce fight in forests, rivers, swamps and along the road. Maybe I was too exited to see a Friefly overunning the Tiger? In the north I met some mechanzied aty and again static defense on the VH. Once again, but for the last time, I had to cross the river. And did it at full throttle for a BV-1. This is the end...
