"Today, 10 May 1940, our offensive in the West has commenced. We attack from a broad front from France to the Netherlands in the north. The Heeresleitung in Berlin assumes the Netherlands will be forced to surrender within 24 hours. For this goal 18. Armee has been formed. Speed is everything. The Allied, the Dutch even less, are not expecting an attack so we will make full use of that.

The goal for the opening hours in the attack on the Netherlands is to push to the Grebbe Line which lies west of the Ijssel River. There are few satisfying bridges over this river and the Abwehr is convinced the Dutch are able to blow this within no time. To capture the Ijssel Bridge at Zutphen Panzerzug 3 will be thrown into action. Once the bridge has been taken, forces of X Armeekorps, part of 18. Armee, will march over the bridge into the Netherlands.

In the worst scenario, the bridge will be blown; in that case you have orders to protect the railroads and wait for X Armeekorps to join you in order to march over into the Netherlands in strenght. Also, be aware of retreating Dutch border units. They have performed demolitions and are trying to get on the other side of the Ijssel River. You might receive support from retreating aircraft that are assisting the Fallschirmjaeger in Fortress Holland, to the west."

Zutphen is a bottleneck on the map and I am unable to defeat the defenders quickly. In addition, the rail network is interrupted at this point and I cannot continue my train. Only units on foot can march further.
I had received a prototype bomber after the first scenario. Unfortunately I cannot use it in this scenario because there is no airfield on the entire map.

02. BARBAROSSA: GRAJEWO. JUNE 22, 1941

The initial strategic goal of Army Group Center during Operation Barbarossa was to launch a double-pronged attack aimed at Minsk, enveloping the northern group of armies of the Soviet Western Front. During the opening days of the operation, the 3rd and 10th Soviet armies became trapped in what became known as the Bialystok Cauldron.

With motorized and panzer divisions concentrating for the breakthrough, Eisenbahn-Panzerzug #3 was tasked with supporting the 9th Army's right flank. As part of the 102nd Security Group (within the army group's reserve), the panzerzug supported the 102nd and 87th infantry divisions' attack toward Bialystok. The first objective was to capture the important railroad depot at Grajewo.

A note about transports: if you have purchased tank units into your core, you can use the EMBARK command to load the unit into a railroad transports. DO NOT use the command for non-core units!

With Eisenbahn-Panzerzug #3's primary objective completed, the 102nd Security Group was tasked with exploiting the breakthrough in the direction of the city of Bialystok. The German 18th motorized division was assigned to exploit the breakthrough. Many units in the 102nd Security Group's first echelon had reported casualties, and the group comitted its reserves for the operation.

By this time, the Soviet 27th, 8th, and 2nd rifle divisions were fully engaged in the fighting. The majority of the 8th rifle division operated in a region to the west of Osowiec. The 2nd rifle division-garrisoned in the fortress Osowiec-was given orders to stop the German advance. The VI mechanized corps-headquartered at Bialystok-was a formidable force in the 10th army's reserve. The organization of the corps was unusual in comparison to the others: they were operating 100% of alotted T-34 tanks. The corps went on battle alert at 2 am on June 22nd. The corps command sent the 29th motorized division NW of Bialystok, and elements of the division began taking positions around the town of Sokolka. Unfortunately, the division was later ordered to move NE of that position, but this scenario assumes the commander's control of one of the division's regiments for the entire engagement.

The Soviets have fortifications with very high defense and attack values. After I sacrificed some aux units without being able to destroy these fortifications, I decided to bypass them. It took too much time. In addition, twice stacked units (bunker + ATY :irate ) awaited me at the southern river crossing. Still, I was close to BV, but ultimately failed. So I played a bonus turn to capture the remaining flags.

After the initial "Barbarossa" combat operations Panzerzug 3 supports operations in Bialystock, Minsk and is later assigned to the Minsk-Bobriusk-Gomel railway line. However, in late 1941 you are ordered to Nevel to protect the Nevel hinterlands and the Nevel-Velikiye Luki railway line, in support of the 83rd infantry division. Your task is to protect the line, ensure rail shipments get through, support anti-partisan operations and combat operations of the 83rd Infantry Division.

A patrol has reported that the bridge near Moshino is held by partisans. You are ordered to leave your current position at Chereukhino, clear the Moshino bridge before it is destroyed and eliminate the partisans. Elements of SS-Kavellerie Regiment I, on an anti-partisan patrol, are in the area and have been placed under your command.
Well, the BV was clearly missed. Cause research: Several obstacles stopped the train traffic. I will probably have to choose a different arrangement of the wagons - INF forward (instead of ATY or AT) because they are the only ones that can effectively fight obstacles.

The conquered VHs urgently need to be defended - the partisans are waiting everywhere.

The Soviets have launched a winter offensive from Rostov all the way north almost as far as Leningrad. In your sector, the 3rd and 4th Shock Armies are attacking towards Kholm (north of Velikiye Luki) but the Velikiye Luki area will soon come under attack from the left flank of the 3rd Shock Army. You are ordered to the railway line from Velikiye Luki to Novosokolniki (west of Velikye Luki), where you are to support the 83rd Infantry Division's defense of the area. A Russian breakthrough could result in Velikye Luki being surrounded. Russian troops and tanks are already infiltrating the area and should be stopped.

The Russian offensive continues.

The 83rd Infantry Division is increasingly isolated at Velikiye Luki and your task is to ensure supplies get through and provide support. Your current orders are to track down a force of partisans and ski troops who are making attacks southwest of Velikiye Luki and provide artillery support for defensive operations in the same area.
HQ: I'm not sure if it makes sense, but I bought a Pz38 (t) - better equipment won't be available until the end of the campaign. Maybe it is helpful against lightly armored reconcars. :notsure

After repair and refitting you are ordered to return to Army Group Center in November 1942, where you are ordered to the Vitebsk, Polozk and Nevel triangle, which is not far behind the front lines. Meanwhile a Russian offensive is close to capturing Velikiye Luki and the area you used to patrol in late 1941 and early 1942.

Starting in January 1943 there are a series of anti-partisan operations aimed at stopping the increasing (and more sophisicated) partisan attacks on the railways. Your current orders are for you and Panzerzug 61 to support the 201st Security Division in suppressing partisan activity near Gorodok (north of Vitebsk and east of Polozk). First, you have to repair the railway tracks so your train can move north...

I buy a flamethrower - with it I can clear the obstacles on the rails faster now, but it has only 3 ammunition and very low defense values. It is positive that new units already own 103 exp.

08. VITEBSK-NEVEL-POLOZK LINE 2. FEBRUARY 24, 1943

Partisans continue to disrupt supply and communications. It has been over a month since the Gorodok operation and you are now protecting the railway lines around Vitebsk itself. If there is any trouble elements of the 12th Panzer Division and 391st Field Training Division are available to help. The Soviets are currently mounting an offensive and their units are not far from Vitebsk, so you should not be surprised to see stray Soviet Army units in the area...
The most urgent task is the defense of Vitebsk. A second own VH, north of Vitebsk, cannot be held with the few aux units and has to be retaken later. However, the own core units are set up far away in the south-west. First bring the ATY wagons near Vitebsk so they can give support fire to the defenders.
Expect partisans from all directions. While they are low in strength, their experience is over 500 to over 800 exp and their destruction is not easy.
The last Soviet VH in the south-east is far away. The train cannot go near it because there are obstacles placed on the last 5 rail hexes. I don't have a pioneer or other INF around so I am missing out on BV.

09. SEBESH-NOVOSOKOLNIKI LINE 1. APRIL 20, 1943

In April you are transferred north west to Sebesh, to protect the Sebesh-Novosokolniki railway line. Novosokolniki is close to the front line and is west of Velikiye Luki (now in the hands of the Russians).

An ammunition train travelling south from Sebesh has been derailed by a mine attack. A small detachment of your troops have been left behind to protect the train while the rest of the Panzerzug 3 returns with material to repair the tracks and salvage the cargo - the ammunition supplies are vital and must be protected!

NOTE: YOU MUST TAKE A TACTICAL VICTORY IN THIS SCENARIO - BUT TRY TO LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. YOU WIN BY CAPTURING THE VICTORY HEX WITHIN YOUR PERIMETER ON TURN 11 THROUGH 15. A BRILLIANT VICTORY OR VICTORY MEANS YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE SCENARIO AGAIN, BUT WITHOUT EXTRA PRESTIGE.

After the mine attack near Nasva you are ordered to sweep the area and destroy as many partisans as possible. You will have some assistance from the 201st Security Division - but this will be mainly your operation.
The scenario is good to play. The opponent is not too strong (many refugees and civilians - block the way). Only the red air fleet is strong and damages my ATY wagons badly. My 20mm Q is too weak to damage the planes. Unfortunately, German fighters are not available.

13 Schaulen-Moscheiken-Weinoden Line 1 bv-3
11. SCHAULEN-MOSCHEIKEN-WEINODEN LINE 1. SEPTEMBER 15, 1944

Soon after the transfer to Sebesh you are ordered to the rear for extensive modification and rebuilding. The repairs take a long time and it is almost year late, in July 1944, before you return to action; again with Army Group Center. In June the Soviets launched a major offensive (Operation Bagration) which by July opened a huge gap in the front allowing the Soviets to push west, then north towards the Baltic Sea. At that time the Panzerzugs are busy trying to keep the railway lines open. You are assigned to the 3rd Panzer Army and you move to Kovno, then Tilsit and finally to Krottingen, in East Prussia.

On August 1 the Russians reach the Baltic and separate Army Group North from Army Group Center. On August 16 a counterattack begins that temporarily breaks the encirclement; you are supposed to take part in that battle but your train is attacked and derailed near Krottingen.

You are returned to action in September and assigned to a railway line in Latvia and Lithuania running from southeast to northwest between the towns of Schaulen/Siauliai, Moscheiken/Mazeikiai and Weinoden/Vainode. Your current orders are to support the 201st Security Division in an anti-Partisan operation near the Latvian towns of Akmene and Papile (between Moscheiken and Schaulen) and near the front lines - so you should be on the lookout for Soviet army units.
A strange scenario - at first nothing happens for 6 turns and I march on the VH's to be conquered. Then things get turbulent - another (hidden) VH becomes visible and the Soviets suddenly have numerous tanks and heavy SPATY.

12. SCHAULEN-MOSCHEIKEN-WEINODEN LINE 2. OCTOBER 5, 1944

After heroic counterattacks, the army manages to hold the line in Latvia. You are still patrolling the Schaulen-Weinoden railway line, however it is close to being the front line so every journey is a risk.

On October 5th the Russians renew their offensive, with a clear objective of reaching the Baltic and finally cutting Army Group North off from the rest of the army. You are in the Vieksniai and Venta area when you are informed that the railway line to Moscheiken is in danger of being cut - your orders are to fight your way north west to Moscheiken to avoid being captured by the Russians.

NOTE: To win you have to move a unit to the victory hex at 1,4
Once fast across the map - there are only a handful of enemy ground units on this path. They are not dangerous, but they delay my advance.
The Soviet IL2M3 are more dangerous - all damage to my ATY wagons is on their account.

After you reach Moscheiken you are ordered further west to Weinoden (Vainode) - and not a moment too soon. The Russian offensive soon cuts off Moscheiken from the east and west and its connection to Libau (on the Baltic coast) is threatened.

You have been ordered to try and open the line east to Moscheiken, but you must also help with the defense of Weinoden.
Defending Weinoden was the easier part of the task.
The conquest of the VH in the south-east was much more difficult: A Soviet armored train with AT, ATY and AD was waiting for me here. In addition, several TB and Barrage-ATY intervened in the fight and prevented a better result for me.

Overnight the Soviets have cut the railway either side of Weinoden. Escape for Panzerzug 3 is impossible but you may be able to save your men. You have received permission to breakout to the west... if you can manage it.

NOTE: If you use the Panzerzug cars to delay the Russian advance you may win the scenario.

That note is a goddamn trap ...

I tried four different lineups and upgrades of my armored train wagons. They would always were the victim of a devastating tank and SPAT attack. They could only move a few hexes (the railway line was interrupted by a missing hex) and could not escape. Four pieces of soviet Barrage-ATY knocked my wagons soft and the tanks had an easy job. An alternative solution to the problem had to be found ...

I didn't set up any of the wagons and holed up behind the first river crossing with my 75mm anti-tank gun and the 20mm flak (all with full OS). I survived the first turn without damage. However, the AI ​​recognized my trap and took another river crossing that was nearby and was not guarded. Then it got critical.
However, in the meantime I had marched near the only VH with my remaining units. The flamethrowers destroyed all machine gun nests and cleared the way for the aux units to be evacuated.

The designer probably wanted to be particularly funny - I say: he has run out of ideas, the last scenario is useless.

Own units, except for the weak TB, cannot be set up. Two Godzilla, a Panzer VII Maus, a V2 and a P.1101 fighter are available for the final fight.
I would skip the scenario like :bs , but it has to be played for entry into the SoH.
