Rising Sun v.2.0 (Santiago Fuertes), with LG efile 7.58 / played with PG2 2.20 exe / completed in Sep'2010

Hm, I'm not used to play with LG efile, so I'm a little confused with some units stats, especially artillery attack and range values. Interesting, that some good units are sometimes cheaper than others with worse stats, so it's good to check all possibilities at HQ carefully. Surely I need some time to be accustomed with it.

1. Retaliation at Shanghai

At the beginning purchased three best available infantry units and big AD gun.

It was difficult battle against massive enemy forces. Chinese units performed really good and I did several repairs to keep my units at decent strength level.
I landed four auxiliary units, Engineer and Cavalry with small tank and one arty support, far on the northwestern shore, when the rest auxiliaries and all my core units directed Shanghai area, landing next to the port.
The western group took farthest VH easily and then turned SE with a plan to take another VH on their way. Soon was obvious that opposition is too strong as they were stopped by Chinese defenders, weakened and eliminated. Only one Engineer units survived and was sent back to secure that farthest VH.

The main group needed plenty of turns to capture many Shanghai VHs. BV was out of question, but I hoped for regular victory at least. Unfortunately due to the western group failure I must sent additional assault group to the central VH from Shanghai, attacked it from the east and captured at the end, but it took one turn too much and only TV was scored. One infantry got SM leader when attacked in the very last turn.

2. Changkufeng Incident

Before the battle I purchased two MG troops.

Nice small scale scenario. I deployed three groups of my units next to SHs on the north, in the center and on the south.
The northern group (Inf+MG) landed and took the northernmost objective easily, then turned south and captured another Russian VH on the way.
The central group (Inf+HQ) landed immediately on the river's eastern bank, went directly to the east and captured two mountain objectives in the center.
The southern group (Inf+MG+AD) crossed the river (was possible without using boats) and captured their two VHs as well, stopping small Russian counterattack which came from the SE area.
Scored easy BV with one turn in spare and got micro tank proto (HQ type).

3. Hainan

Before the battle I sold both MGs and purchased two mountain infantry troops.

Next small scale battle in a row. Limited deployment with 4 slots on the south and 4 slots in the northern area, but that was enough for my army. I loaded both new mountain troops with HQ and AD into boats on the southern shore perimeter. The rest, HQ tank with three engineer infantries, started from the north.
The southern group landed next to the city with an airfield. Defenders were softened by two destroyers before assault started, so both Chinese infantries and AD gun were easily killed. After that SW city capturing naval support and auxiliary TB attacked next objective on the SE. It was cleared even before ground units came, so my HQ just secured empty VH.
On the north after initial intensive battle with two coastal batteries and several ground units I was able to take NE city. Afterward two infantries with tank went to the northwestern VH. Four destroyers and air bombardment prepared area for my land units arrival, so the last VH was taken 4 turns before BV limit easily.
Got another prototype – crappy AD on truck. I probably upgrade it to big gun and sell my initial AD. Strange thing, in previous battle 1-bar units were purchasable, but now they are again with 0 exp.

4. Battle for Nanchang

Gixian said that it could be handy to have a tank here in this battle, to deal with numerous Chinese infantry units, so I decided to buy one, or even two. Sold big AD and one mountain infantry to afford that.

Deployed Mountaineers with SPAD on the northwest zone, when the rest started from the northeastern area next to an airfield.

The map was filled with zillions of enemy units, but my tanks supported by HQ units went through without problems. They gained a lot of experience, especially that one surprised in the city, but I was able to refit it back to 5 sp, so it could still participate in the battle to the end. These two green tanks killed 21 units of total 45 annihilated here.
After initial clearing of north central area, just between my starting positions, I sent Mountaineers with that lucky tank far to the south to help with farthest objective capturing. Knowing, that may be difficult due to reinforcements weakness, I concentrated my air forces there from the very beginning softening and killing defenders. In that situation, with a little help of both core units which arrived from the north, I captured the southernmost VH at BV-3.
The main city assault was more problematic due to very limited access across the river. Those bottlenecks slowed down my units, so several turns of regular siege were needed before I could take cleared city VH with my SuperMan troop two turns before the BV limit. One of new tanks was awarded with Liberator leader.

Hm, I'm still going without core artillery and recon, but with those nice auxiliary guns provided and some 3-hex spotting units in my roster it was fairly possible so far.

5. Battle of the 100 Regiments

Before the battle did nothing at HQ.
Deployed all units (excepting SPAD) in available hexes in the northwestern corner and directed central VH/SH, as was obvious that all weakly garrisoned Japan VHs will fall one by one. Luckily I managed to take this objective before the last of initial VHs fell to Chinese guerillas (I was afraid of lose in such case).
I deployed my SPAD next to newly captured SH and split my forces on three groups, which were sent in different directions to recapture all objectives. Battle was a little chaotic due to plenty of enemy units, that walked all over the map, but they were not very danger for my units and continuously eliminated. The last VH on the south, next to the river, was recaptured five turns before BV limit. Mountain infantry got Bridging leader.

6. Lingayen Landings

Before the battle I sold crappy SPAD. Purchased trucks for my Kamikaze troops and fat TB which should work as a flying arty.

Two engineers, two tanks and HQ started from land deployment area on the north. Mountain infantry, remaining engineer and HQ tank were packed in boats and must land in central sea shore area.
The northern group had longest way to go. They captured an airfield (so TB went into action) and closest VH with a coastal battery, then directed to the south along the road. Their objective were two far southern VHs. The last one was taken with three turns of BV limit still in spare. In the same turn the central landing group, with some auxiliaries, secured the last one of four VHs placed closer to the sea. Easy battle, but 0 pp. gained despite the Liberator, which is useless with such strange prestige settings: 0 after battle, 0 in hex and 0 in turn prestige.

7. Luzon Gap

Before the battle did nothing. No cash – no fun.

Perhaps easiest battle so far. I split my forces on two groups – HQ, one tank and two Kam on the NW – two tanks, Kam and Mtn on the NE. Both groups ran through enemy lines easily, supported by my TB as well as three auxiliary bombers.
Got easy BV four turns before limit. Remaining two infantry units got leaders, so now all of them have one.

I couldn't resist and shot a photo to show American tankers fighting spirit.

8. Bataan; The annihilation Pursuit

Before the battle did nothing. No cash – no fun. :sad :sad

More difficult battle finally due to terrain, which wasn't friendly for my tanks. Luckily my mountain infantry had a good day here, supported by some auxiliary mountaineers as well. I deployed two bigger tanks with HQ and one Kami on the right flank. One kamikaze started in a boat on the right with a task to capture Corregidor island. Mountain unit was deployed next to VH in the NW area, when small tank and remaining kamikaze were loaded into boats and flew along the shore. They landed later somewhere in the middle in between two American VHs on the western shore of peninsula.
The battle on the west went smoothly, so units from that flank directed to the center later and helped to capture one of mountain objectives. The eastern group of auxiliaries, reinforced with my core, attacked along the eastern shore and some units went straight to the mountain VH as well. American opposition was reduced and broken gradually. Central VHs in the mountain were easier to take, but the road along the eastern shore needed much more time to drive through. Tanks weren't efficient there, so main work was done by infantry, under fire of enemy artillery.
One engineer infantry reached the island in the meantime and landed directly on the airfield. When I saw how many units were grouped there, I was afraid that one unit may be not enough to take objective. Anyway, I sent two bombers to help there and that was just enough, despite VH/SH which allowed AI to buy and surprisingly deploy some extra units (one SPArty and two Grants, luckily with lowered strength). Corregidor was mine couple of turns before BV limit.
The last, farthest VH on the eastern shore, was finally reached and captured with only one turn in spare – BV (but no proto).

Another easy battle with simple plan. All my ground units filled prepared 8 deployments slots. Bomber went into battle much later, after the central airfield capturing.
My units landed on the eastern shore of island and went straight across it directing Port Moresby on the western shore. All flags and VHs on the way were easily taken. No problems at all till the end, when Australian reinforcements arrived and filled Port Moresby perimeter. Anyway, I made quick breakthrough and captured the city scoring BV with six turns in spare. Finally got third proto – some kind of torpedo bomber.

10. Battle of the Tenaru

Before the battle did nothing – saved prestige for later.

Another easy small scale battle. Only five deployment hexes for land units were available, so only infantry was used. I didn't regret that my tanks left in a garage considering the all jungle terrain. One engineer infantry joined two auxiliary units on the west, when remaining four units started at opposite flank with another two auxiliaries.
The battle was very short and simple. Western group took their closest objective on the west, and eastern group another two VHs more to the east. Nothing unexpected, flawless operation guaranteed BV with three turns of limit left. My veteran bomber got leader passing fifth bar.

11. Australia Invasion - Darwin

Before the battle temporary purchased 2 bombers to store excessive prestige.

This battle was more difficult due to lack of air support in early stage. All units started in boats with two ships assistance. The way via the sea to Darwin looked very long, and soon enemy bombers appeared attacking my armada. In that circumstances I directed straight to the sea shore trying to land as fast as possible. I preferred longer route through the jungle than sailing under continuous bombardment.
Landing units destroyed enemy observation post on the shore, which guided nasty bombers, and went to the west afterward. Later I split my forces on two groups, sending three units to southernmost VH, when the main group attacked an airfield next to Darwin first. When it was taken I could deploy my bombers finally. Despite many rainy turns they helped with both enemy VHs capturing, but obviously bad weather slowed me a little. Darwin was taken first and southern VH two turns later, that means one turn before the BV limit.

12. Australia Invasion - Adelaide

Before the battle I sold both green bombers and purchased fighter and two new Kamikadze squads. Downgraded my micro HQ tank to some new type with bigger gun and thicker skin. During the battle added some Hohei infantry for captured VHs securing and another Konoe for special rescue operation.

This battle has some surprises for a player prepared, so it's very hard to score good result in the first attempt if you don't know what to expect. Firstly I chose slightly different setup, with two fighters instead of engineer infantry, but must stop after lose of valuable unit. One Konoe was killed when left behind main forces to smash a bunker and capture its flag. Suddenly hidden VH was launched next to it by Australians. It captured objective straight away, but left alone (without air support due to rain) it later was completely surrounded by enemies, so couldn't be resupplied or repaired and was killed. I decided to replay the battle with modified plan.

In my second attempt I changed my army composition, adding two engineers instead of the fighter. These two green units and newly upgraded tank were sent to NE, the area of expected battle for hidden VH. When it appeared, I was able to capture it promptly and had no problem with defending it this time with three units and my bombers.
The rest of my core directed straight to the south, capturing closest VH on the eastern shore of a bay, then another one in the small mountains, and finally went to Adelaide city where three objectives were located. I cleared my way through the city and captured VHs one by one, so was sure BV with six turns in spare will be secured, but nothing happened. I looked on the map once again and saw another hidden VH, on the west this time, which was initially missed. I quickly purchased another one Konoe engineer and sent it to that VH, which was reached in one turn, but couldn't dispatch Ranger which defended it in first attack. In the next turn in addition my bomber arrived, so this time that last VH was cleared and captured. So, despite a little chaotic emergency operation at the end comfortable BV with four turns in spare was achieved. Got some crappy prototype bomber.
When main forces advanced, I purchased three additional Hohei infantry for available prestige with a plan to secure back row VHs. That was necessary as some enemy activity was noted in the area, after enemy sea landing operation.
When Japanese navy arrived I noted, that one of big Haruna battleships was placed in between islands so unfortunately that couldn't move at all and was useless.

13. Auckland - NZ Invasion

Before the battle sold two Hohei and one Konoe. Downgraded two new Konoe to Paratrooper and upgraded remaining Hohei to the same as well. Purchased Zero fighter to have possibility deploy it on a carrier.

That was crazy battle with a lot of action and some costly loss as well. I didn't deployed ground units initially, only three core paratroopers in NE area. Together with two auxiliary paras they took responsibility for starting operations, only supported by two auxiliary planes, two my planes with [Y] and some ships. On the map auxiliary operations are RED, core ORANGE and core airborne actions VIOLET.

Image

I sent one core paratrooper with two auxies to the northern airfield VH, when remaining two paras landed next to SH closest to Auckland. Both actions were successful, so I could deploy the rest of my air forces on that airfield as well as all ground units went into action from that captured SH.

Soon three units on the north were attacked by enemy units coming from SW. One aux troop was killed, and remaining two units seriously reduced in strength. I must retreat from the airfield back in the forest to survive. To make things worse massive NZ reinforcements appeared next to the VH, so I thought both remaining units will be finished soon. Next aux para was killed as well, but I got some extra pp from flags and could at least repair my last unit up to 6 sp. Surprisingly elite Japan division appeared on the north in the last moment, saving the day. They promptly went into action, so situation was under control finally. Afterward that forces went to the south directing Auckland.

In the meantime my units were divided on two groups. One tank, engineer and mountain troop went to the south, capturing two VHs placed there. The rest turned to the west, liberated the airfield on the shore and started big city assault. It went relatively slowly, as my units were seriously weakened at this stage.
Two paras arrived on foot the that new airfield, loaded to the planes and flew to the island with another airfield VH. Landed there and with some navy support captured their objective. Later one of them flew again, to the Auckland this time. It landed in the city and helped to capture the last VH there.
Units that attacked from the south took first VH without troubles, but the second needed much more work. During the city fight I tried to use my tanks as well, as infantries were at low strength then. Unfortunately one of them were attacked by couple of units, after initial softening by naval and coastal battery bombardment (that was typical for this battle due to enemy ships placement in each available pool of water). I was not able to save it in no way, so it was KIA.
When auxiliaries finally arrived and attacked from the west things started to look well. I sent remaining para from the northern airfield as well, so it landed in the city and dispatched some nasty arty with leader which made final assault easier. Both remaining VHs in the city were taken in the same turn, five rounds before the BV limit.
Got another crappy torpedo bomber as a proto.

14. San Francisco - Night Surprise

Before the battle I sold old Zero model and purchased newest type of it. Downgraded Ki-44 to that Zero as well, to have four carrier type planes for immediate support. Upgraded all infantries to their 43 versions for free.

Interesting night-style map, but that was very easy battle against rookie Americans, virtually no opposition here. Just landed my forces on the southern beach, took closest objectives and turned to the north for farther ones. With strong air support the only problem was distance to travel, but I was fast enough to get BV with two turns in spare.

15. San Francisco - US Counterattack

Before the battle upgraded all three Paratroopers to Konoe. OSed best tank to 14.

At the beginning I kept defensive setup to repeal initial American attack. I hold San Diego, which was my northern defensive line, but must temporary retreat from two eastern VHs when numerous enemy reinforcements appeared there. Later, when situation was back under control I recaptured them easily.
Afterward I directed to the north in two columns, main forces on the left, western side, approached San Francisco, and some smaller group on the eastern flank directing Oakland. After deliberated assault all objectives were taken three turns before the BV limit.
The naval battle went not good at the beginning, but my torpedo bomber saved the day there, blowing out one smaller battleship and reducing mighty Iowa, which seemed to be stronger than Yamato.
