[MOD] Transparent hex grid and terrain icons graphics

Post by Szperacz » 2024-01-22 18:46, Monday

Hello

Here's a small graphics mod:
- making the hex grid more subtle and transparent
- same with terrain icons
- same with red visibility binoculars
- removing the road/rail overlay, as they are easily enough recognizable without it

I'm not the author of anything, I just added transparency. Thanks to the authors of the terrain icons - Jaro and sympatyk - they're very nice.

Here's how it looks:

Download:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K7BuMC ... sp=sharing

Instruction:
- backup OPENGUI folder
- put the 4 mod files in OPENGUI folder

To do something similar open PNG file in Paint.NET, add transparent layer below the main layer and change the opacity of the top layer. Save and that's it.

[Update]
- made the red binoculars transparent

The hex_text.png file in this form (with the subtitles replaced by terrain icons) was created around 2015 while working on tile maps. Its author is Jaro
The (mod) file currently presented by you - is based on my modification presented publicly in February 2020
You are right on some (light) maps - less contrasting overlays are needed
For me, the problem is dark maps - that's why I changed the hex_outlines.png file to make it more visible - e.g. show range

Let me ask you - you play OG, you know the Polish forum?

Thanks, I updated the first post with the information about the original hex_text mod author name. Now I see I didn't read correctly and will add also you (I'll do it when the post returns from moderation (also added an update with transparent binoculars and another screenshot)).

I found the Polish forum. But man, I have no time for reading forums - I suffer from "one more turn syndrome" with Open General :)
What is in this game? I have Panzer Corps 1 and 2, Order of Battle, Panzer General 2 - you name it, and I cannot stop playing Open General :)
What a great game, and so many campaigns and stuff - I don't have time for this, why oh why did I find it?

I'm now going through the original Panzer General 2 campaign someone was kind to share for OG. Other campaigns are still probably a bit too hard for me.

Other campaigns are still probably a bit too hard for me.
Gustlik's e-file (campaigns included there) is considered quite easy

Your name suggests that you have something in common with Poland - am I wrong?
I appreciate people who want to do something socially, for free
I spent most of my time for OG making graphics (maps and some smack)
Because I don't know English(all through Google translator)
it is much easier (more precise) to write in Polish

I don't know if you know --> when I say Polish forum, I mean the possibility of downloading about 170 campaigns dedicated to the Gustlik e-file (divided into 3, or more precisely 4, parts)
Possibility to download the complete game with all the above-mentioned campaigns
Ability to download all maps needed for these campaigns in one file

These two different ways of installing the game complement each other
E-files (related campaigns) that you download with installation from
http://www.open-general.com/installer-full.php
is not available in the Polish installation
And vice versa - downloaded from
https://opengeneral.pl/files/OG_setup_5.08.exe
is not included in the installation from www.open-general.com
There are other differences related to the method of distribution
Anyone interested - please ask

There is a Polish subforum on this forum
viewforum.php?f=67
We write on it - in Polish and English

Yeah, I'm a Pole. Poles must have some kind of a fixation on WW2 games :) Especially taking the side of Germans invading Poland :lol

Thanks for the information - I have wondered about Gustlik e-file. I'll try it out.

For now I'm still getting my ass kicked by Russians in the original Panzer General 2 campaign conversion to OG :)

If you have never played on Gustlik's e-file, you will also find Polish campaigns here - historical and completely fictional.
I'm currently playing a campaign like this, which was created during PG2, for the first time
It was played in 2012 and 2014
Then once in 2016 and 2019
A very interesting story told for this campaign
It's just for fun
