Greetings generals and :welcome to my part of the development-playtest :howdy

This thread is about randowe's and my collaboration on the upcoming "Army Group X" campaign for the Atomic Efile.
It is a fictional German campaign that will take the players from Malta through North Africa and the Orient to Russia. The main drive is to present as many new maps from the recent years as possible and provide something fun :ihope to play.

We have just started building the campaign, with the first scenario being finished...

1) Operation Herkules ~~ BV-2


BV-2 is looking freaky, but in the (more or less unchanged) current version i played the scenario so much that i knew what to do when, and i also had some lucky combat results.

Turns 1-6:
Contrary to the suggestion n the briefing, i landed 1 smaller group (from west to east: Pz III, 1x arty and the Pak) on the north-central coast of Malta, and the larger group around Bugibba.
Auxiliary airborne units went for the nearby airfield and defended it for several turns.
Navy at first supported the 2 landings, then sailed slowly westwards shelling enemy artillery - and preparing to face the enemy fleet.
Rcn and Ftr aircraft hunted enemy fighters - thus i kept the bombers in reserve for the first 3 turns. Tricky was the loss of an aux Ftr in turn 3, but by that time a good part of the enemy airforce was shot down or damaged.

Turns 6+
1 of the core infantries went westwards to capture remaining VHs. Rest of core went for the main part of Malta.
The incoming Italians landed on the west, south and east coasts of Gozo (evil AI tried to block the southern landing sites :goodie ).

The destroyers were sacrificed in turns 6-7 or 7-8 i think, in an attempt to slow down the enemy fleet.
Battleships later sailed southeast again to support the core.


I picked up a great leader on the bomber, dunno if i should keep since it could spoil the run :doh :lol

I split the core into 2 groups, a) "fast" to land ASAP and b) "slow" sailing east.

a) consisted of 2x leFH, rcn car, Flak - it moved south, landed around Ras Lanuf and rushed east on roads.
b) consisted of tank, leIG, leFH, 2x infantry, marines - it sailed east and landed southwest of Mersa Brega.

The defense of El Agheila is easy, since airforce is in the area.
Mersa Brega is a different story - in this playthrough the only survivor in the east was the Italian rcn car. To me, losing a tank AND an arty in a single scenario feels extra embarassing :o but i just failed to get them out in time.

As for the core Flak, it wasn't really needed this time - in fact, its XP came exclusively from putting it on the frontline :fight

Dont' worry. The player isn't meant to save the auxiliary units anyway. They should just hold the position as long as possible.
