While Major Heinz started his YouTube Let's Play of our campaign "From D-Day to Deutschland", i decided to play along in the traditional way.

Current scenario: Landing at Omaha Beach

This time i decided to send all my troops, core and auxiliary, to the center and use just one landing area. So i sent the naval transports from the northwest and southeast to the center too. All units got unloaded there in the opening turns while the paratroopers flew to the center of the map. After few turns more paratroopers arrived on the scene. They flew to the center too and the para-engineer built two airfields after landing.

My landing party finaly broke through the enemy defensive line in the center and captured the city. Meanwhile one of my core paratroopers had to fight against rugged defense three times in the row...
After the central city and map center got cleared i split my army into 2 battlegroups and sent them to the northwest and southeast respectively.
I took out the enemy bunkers of the Atlantikwall one after another and moved towards the VHs, while in the north of the map my paratroopers and planes cleared the area and captured the VH. These units were able to stop an incomming Panzer-Division and later all the planes helped the units at the coast.
After breaking through the defensive line the fighting was not that hard anymore and i tried to train some of my troops. My US Marines unit gained 186 Exp only from fighting against the minefields at the shore.

Current scenario: Battle of Cherbourg

I got a level bomber proto, which i sold. I also sold my core level bomber. Yeah, i don't like level bombers very much...
Then i bought two artilleries, one self-propelled FLAK and one SPAD, one tank, one bomber (which later picked up a [C]-leader, one unarmed recon bomber, a bridging infanty and a recon car. I also upraded my 3inch mortar into the paratrooper version.

Most fo my core units got deployed in the east, only two core units got deployed in the west. All my paratroopers got deployed at sea (in air transports).
In the opening turns i followed the roads so my units did not get lost in the Bocage. My core and auxiliary paratroopers all flew to the northeast where they landed.

Like always i was very cautious and i thought (like always) i was to slow. While most of my army drove northwards in the eastern part of the peninsula my forces in the west should just capture some flags.
Meanwhile my paratroopers cleared the northeastern part of the peninsula and broke through the outer defensive perimeter in the east.
Then my army linked with the paratroopers and broke trought the Cherbourg defensive perimter in the south and southeast.

Then i attacked Cherbourg with force brute with nearly all of my units. In the last 3 or 4 turns - when i knew i would score a BV - i tried to train all of my core units and get the most EXP out of the scenario. I missed some flags (and thus a little money) in the northwest.
I picked up another leader on an infantry.

Current scenario: Battle of Caen

I am ahead of the schedule and Major Heinz didn't upload his Caen videos yet. I'll post the link later.

At HQ i just bought another tank and saved the rest of the pp for later. Some turns into the battle, when i had amassed enough pp from captured flags i bought a Typhoon fighter-bomber.
Taking Caen was easy. I had the numbers and attacked the city from the north and west. Meanwhile auxiliary paratroopers and Résistance attacked and captured the most eastern VH.
The map is large and the more the battle lasted, the more my units got dispersed across the whole map.
Then the problems started. I didn't remember the enemy reinforcements

Tanks appeared on the scene and i things got a little tricky. In the southwest near Villers-Bocage i had to face a whole tank division but had only one core tank in the area. My planes took turns there and for most of the second half of the battle they were engaged in the southwest. I could use the Bocage terrain to my advantage and blocked the road with my tank. Later i brought in more units and attacked Villers-Bocage from the east too.

In the south my core paratroopers nearly got wiped out by a sole Panther tank. But the enemy had no chance and the longer the battle lasted, the more i gained the upper hand and eventually made BV. In the final turns i even had the time to hunt flagged hex and i missed just one.

I couldn't stop playing

Current scenario: Tank Battle of Avranches

First i got a night-fighter proto and a free core AT gun. Then i bought another tank at HQ. The intro mentions an enemy counterattack, so i left some of my units behind. auxiliary infantries built a 2 hex wide minefield around my starting VH and airfield.

Most of my army approached Avranches from northern directions. Just north of the city i met a german battlegroup, some of the enemy units retreated to the city. There is just one bridge and my advance was stoped. So i decided to build a bridge across the Sée river east of Avranches. It took 2 turns but then my fastest units crossed the river. I send some of units that crossed the bridge past Avranches and further to the south in order to meet the time limit.

In the north i was waiting for the enemy attack but it took 9 or 10 turns before they attacked my defensive positions. Prior to the attack some auxiliary units appeared on the scene. Unfortunately most of them got stuck in my own minefield and then got crushed by the advancing germans.
Yeah its always a mess when reinforcements appear in a already crowded area.
Anyway, the germans had strong armor like Jagdpanther and Königstiger comming to kill my units and it took me a while to fight them down.
Even though the germans were understrengthed, it was not so easy to get the better of them.

Meanwhile i the center of the map i had captured Avranches and all of my units were storming to the southwest. I had the numbers and easily vaporised the last defenders.

In a heroic denfensive action one of my tanks in the north got a liberator leader. This is not a playtest and i haven't played with a liberator leader for years (if i remember correctly) and decided to go for it...

Current scenario: Falaise Pocket

I had to play this scenario twice. In my first try i lost two core units, my AT gun and a tank. In my second try i sold the AT gun, which i got last scenario as a present. Despite its HA of 21 it is to inexperienced (or whatever) to fight modern german tanks. So i sold the AT gun and bought another tank at HQ

My tactics in both tries were the same. I blocked the retreating germans at the river and destroyed them when they tried to corss it and with my core tanks comming from the south and southeast. Then i had to deal with incomming enemy units in the north and northeast too.
Every time you are able to reduce an german tank's strength by 1, it's a success

Eventually i was able to kill the required 80 units in time for a BV.

Current scenario: Operation Market Garden

At HQ i bought a SPARTY, then deployd my troops at the southern map edge. When the scenario starts auxiliary paratroopers have already landed near Arnhem and Nijmegen. Our core army and other auxiliary units have to drive northwards to relief the paratroopers and capture the bridges.

I really like the scenario. There are many small skrimishes all across the map. The aux paratroopers in the north were very strong and were able to hold their position at the western outskirts of Arnhem. 3 of my own paratroopers flew to Arnhem too. The aux paratroopers at Nijmegen had to retreat a little bit and waited for my army to arrive.

My planes had a hard time. The Luftwaffe was pretty strong and their experienced fighters, despite beeing understrengthed, were hard to kill.
In the middle of the fight i had to deal with enemy reinforcements in the east.

By the end of the scenario my fastest unit had reached Arnhem and all bridges and other VHs got secured in time.

Current scenario: Battle of Aachen

Got a recoilless gun proto and sold it. At HQ i bought another fighter and another medium artiellery.

The german Westwall fortification system spans along the western map edge. But i was a little obstacle only. I deployed my units in the north and south only, but not in the west! I passed the Westfall fortification system in the very north and south and ignored it afterwards. The first objective was the city of Aachen. I captured it without problems and moved further east. An enemy army arrived in the northeast, but the units were all understrengthed and i stopped them at the river in the map center. My D-Day Sherman made some overruns...
This was the first scenario where i remembered i have an liberator leader and used it to capture 4 VHs for double prestige.
Got 4 leaders. I wish i would get leaders on my recon or artillery, but...

Current scenario: Battle of Hürtgen Forest

At HQ i upgraded my recon into a HQ unit.

Had to grind my way through the dense forest. Rain and mud made things complicated at first. I mainly followed the roads.
There are no airfields, but with a fast builder attachemnt i was able to build one airfield pretty fast and was able to deploy my planes in the second turn.
In the second part of the battle the ground became dry and i was able to use bring all units into battle. Easy win at the end.
Damn, i really hate my artilleries for not getting a leader. I wish i could decline all the other leaders Of course an infantry snatched the 15th spot.

I'll try to turn my D-Day Sherman into a So i have a picture to post in the other thread
But i doubt he will score more than 150 kills... Let alone 150 kills at all. We'll see.

Current scenario: Operation Pheasant

Got a night fighter proto. I save all my prestige for later. I wanted to buy a Comet tank, but was missing some bucks. When i had captured some flags i bought the tank and deployed it at my SH, but at this time it was the only unit in the far south and for most of the turns i forgot about it and didn't move it at all

Our army is leaving Germany and is heading for North Brabant, Netherlands, to carry out Operation Pheasant, alongsinde the 1st Polish Armoured Division.
I had two battlegroups, one going up straight up to the north and one taking a way north in the eastern part of the map. There were many small and big cities to capture and there was fighting all across the map. It was also the first time my planes encountered german Me 262 jet fighters.

My artillery finaly is comming out of age and with its experience and the HQ units they finaly make some damage to the enemy.
At the end it was kind of easy and in the final turns i slowed down in order to squeeze the most exp out of the scenario.

Current scenario: Battle of the Bulge

At HQ i sold my old unarmed recon plane and bought two new unarmed recon spitfires

A strong german attack awaits us in this scenario. And this time the Germans are really strong. You have to be very careful because of the german tanks and SPATs. At the beginning of the scenario our auxiliary troops have to face the german attack while our core troops have to be deployed a little bit off the battlefield.
I built a defensive line that tried to make use of the river as much as possible, only in the center there was some open land. So i tried to block the center with a lot of minefields, set up by my aux units until the germans arrived. In the very south and south i could easily block the enemy at the bridges and in the south my tank was active as kills were up for grabs.

The biggest problems had to be solved in the north and northeast/center, where the best german tanks attacked.
I had all my 5.5inch guns in the north and backed by my HQ infantry they did a great job, stopping enemy unarmoured units. They had little effect on enemy tanks though.
I used the air force and aux infantry to damage the enemy tanks and the longer the battle lasted, the more i gained the upper hand.

Meanwhile in the south, my D-Day Sherman had cleared the area (with the help of all other units, but he scored the kills) and was moving northwards to score some more kills.

After 10 turns the battle was pretty much over and after 13 turns there was no enemy left on the map. Still, i had to "play" 7 additional turns. I think we can shorten the number of turns. I'll discuss this with Major Heinz.

Current scenario: Save the airfields

This is a short scenario were the player has to save some MSU airfields, grounded planes and a hangar from being destroyed.
At HQ i temporarily sold two attachemtns and temporarily bought AA attachments for all my fighters.

So i deployed my fighters, recon planes and a fighter-bomber, as well as my Flaks, AD and HQ units. The player also gets a free core AD unit.
At the start of the scenario i gathered my units around the various MSU units and shot down the first wave of enemy planes.

Then my planes got engaged in the south and thereafter were not able to fly the distance up to the north in time to prevent enemy fighter-bombers (with "can bomb within full range of fire") from destroying an MSU airfield. So i lost the scenario. I don't feel the need to try again as the campaign continues Bring on the tanks

Current scenario: Attack from the North

At HQ i sold all the attachments i bought last scenario. Then i finaly upgraded my D-Day tank and my paratrooper mortar. I also restored the recon attachments for my two recon planes.

In this scenario the allied army faces a german attack from the north and east in the area north of Strasbourg. Our core starts in the southwest and has to drive to the fighting area while the auxiliary forces are ordered to hold their positions.
The germans were able to capture two of my VHs in the north, but the VHs were in german hands for a short time only.
There is also a german bridgehead at the western shore of the Rhine river just few km north of Strasbourg. But the Germans were not able to use the bridgehead to their advantage.
Playing was a little bit strange, when i tried to bring my tank into the best positions to score the most kills and thus the fighting took much longer than it would have been without such an effort. I guess thats why i never pay attention to certain units when i play under normal circumstances

So i repelled all german attacks and later moved out to capture the german airfield & VH in the the northeast.

Current scenario: Race to the Ludendorff Bridge

Just a little morning exercise There are only few german units and the scenario does not take that long. The germans are well entrenched though.
At HQ i bought another tank. Then i deployed my units in the west and southwest.

The southwestern battlegroup moved to the southeastern VH and the western battlegroup to all the other VHs. Right after the start few units from the south went across the map center into the north too.

I had many turns of rains. You can see that my all-weather fighters all scored more than 100 EXP while the other fighters gained much less.

Current scenario: Operation Plunder

Got a carrier-borne fighter proto and sold it. Then i upgraded my SPATY into another 5.5inch gun and bought an armored infantry.
Then i bought an fast builder attachment for the bridging infantry and a fast speed attachment and 3 strength points for my

While in the previous scenario the allied forces were able to cross the Rhine south of the Ruhr area, we are now try to cross the Rhine north of the Ruhr area. There is limited deployment and some units had to stay in the depot.

All my units crossed the river in the center where my fast builder infantry built two bridges. Only the core and aux paratroopers flew to the forest VH.
The paratroopers (and few other units) took care of the southern VH while most of my army drove to the east.
The fighting was pretty easy. Maybe i should make this scenario a little harder

Current scenario: Ruhr Pocket

First i bought another bomber and a +2 ammo attachment for my hero tank. He got 2 more strength points as well.

I had two battlegroups. The one in the north was ordered to clear the densely populated Rhur area and the one in the center/south was ordered to clear the more rural area south of the Rhur river.
My monster tank was and the north and he basically accomplished the mission alone.
Again a easy scenario and i am tempted to make it harder.

My scored 40 kills and 320 EXP I now see what potential there is when you fully commit to the task of a monster tank.

The way through the Harz Fortress

At HQ i upgraded my AD gun into a SPAD, which is advantageous on such a big map. Then i bought some attachments for various units. I also saved around 600 pp so i could refresh my monster tank if needed.

I remembered this scenario well from our playtest last year. So i deployed most units in the north, among them all 5.5 inch guns and [C] units.
In the center i had some auxiliary units, so i deployed only few of my core units around the wstern end of the Harz mountain range.
In the far south i seployed only 5 of my core units. No aux units there.

The biggest fights will occur around Braunschweig (english: Brunswick ), right after the start, and around Magdeburg, in the final turns of the scenario. Both cities are located in the northwest and northeast respectively.

My was ordered to capture Braunschweig and with some help of my ATY department, it killed almost all units there. But he got hit and a first refreshment was needed after the battle for Braunschweig. But all the overstrength was gone already.
Meanwhile some units of my northern army were already crossing the Oker river south of Braunschweig and auxiliary forces prepared to capture the Harz mountain VH.
In the south i had no problems and fighting was easy there.

East of Braunschweig my northern battlegroup reunited and refueled and then drove eastwards to the city of Magdeburg where the final battle should take place. A german division appears east of the city and east of the river Elbe and the divison will retreat westwards and will meet my army
My monster tank needed a second refreshment but i was able to make sure that he got the most kills again.
Eventually i captured all VHs, got a BV and won the campaign.
