Rise and Fall of an Empire

...a new campaign made by Mark, Matze and me about the rise and fall of the german empire from 1849 - 1920s which mixes historic and fictive elements to create a great playing experience for the Kaiser Efile.

Current scenario: Leutnant mit Sechzehn (Leutnant with sixteen (years old))

At Waghäusel we meet our old friends, Franz Sigel and Friedrich Hecker, but this time there is no "Hurra!" and no "Welcome!".
They are officers of the revolutionary forces and we are a very young Prussian soldier, sent to fight the revolution in the southwestern german states.
We got some support by 3rd party AI forces. They manage to take their objectives (2x VH) but later they wasted a lot of time by NOT using the roads for their advance.

The enemy has a strong position in the north, at Heidelberg and Mannheim, where the rivers Rhein and Neckar meet. But to their surprise, Prussian forces crossed the river in their wide open back.
So i crossed the river, took the village of Waghäusel, united my troops (with the eastern forces) and attacked the enemy at Heidelberg and Mannheim from behind. The revolutionaries were outnumbered and i fought them down quickly.
Some infantry regiments were send to the south to conquer the less defended city of Freiburg.
My core MSU, which i named 1. Infanterieregiment (not very creative... ;) ) did a very good job and gained 125exp! It took a lot of damage though.

We added a choice screen before the second scenario. The player has the choice between a heavy cavalry, a artillery or two infantry units. I go for the 2 infantry units.

Current scenario: Danish defence

First i promoted my 1. Infanterieregiment to 1. Garde-Infanterie-Regiment ;)
The prussian forces start in the southeast and have to move northwestwards and take 4 VHs. The danish forces have some well defended fortified positions.
At the beginning of the battle two danish forts lay in front of us. I concentrated my whole army on the right one, with some of my units in reserve. When the right fort was mine i attacked the other one from behind, taking the enemy arty out first.
Then i moved northwards and conquered the village of Missunde/Mysunde. The main goal of the whole operation came last: The ferry station at Missunde narrows of the Schlei river.
One of my units already gained a leader at the end of the battle.

Current scenario: Battle of Dybbøl

Again we face some danish fortifications. This time we have to take the redoubts near the village of Düppel/Dybbøl. They are protecting the Als Sund (and its crossings), which seperates the island of Alsen from the mainland. Thanks to my superior aux arty the first enemy positions fell quickly and once i got a breach i moved my units through it and attack the rest of the danish forces from behind/from the sides.

When the first danish line was completely fought down, the second line, at the Als Sund, fell quickly when i send my aux forces into battle, no matter what...

You can watch one of the battles in the danish TV-series 1864.
It's the Battle of Dybbøl were the Prussians were attacking entrenched and fortified danish forces and the danish troops launching a counterattack.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUud0nylj7Y The battle starts at around 19:20 min/sec when a red flare is fired as starting sign for the prussian arty. The noise and lights (20:03) of the incomming shells sound and look so scary :yikes i have never seen something like this in a war movie before. Does someone know if the sound is authentic?

Current scenario: The Crown of the Kaiser

Mayn aux units were deployed in the north and west and i deployed my 3 core units in the north between the rivers. A free core scout joined my core.
I tried to build a long front will all troops connected and advanced slowly to the southeast.
Many aux artillery units provided a strong covering fire for my advancing infantry. The cavalry was send to my left flank and pushed down south near the eastern river.
When reinforcements arrived in the east in the middle of the fight, i was sure i would win... but i didn't expect the fight to keep on for so long.
The last VH i had to conquer was the one in the southwest. It was surrounded by lots of hills and wood and i really feared i wouldn't make it in time but eventually i closed in on it from all sides and made BV in the second to last turn before the limit expired. One of my infantry units gained a leader.

The fight was nice and the scenario don't need any changes imo.
Only the free core scout should get a little exp from the beginning on.

Current scenario: The "german Army"

Our army starts in the east and we have to cross the Lauter river where an the western shore the main force of the french army has taken position.
The french have a bridgehead in the north and i attacked it simultaneously with the the city they held in the south. There was only one french unit in the south and after i killed it, i tried to cross the river in the south first.
Then more and more of my units made it to the western shore and i pushed forward no matter what. Some aux units gave their lives for their country.
BV-3 was possible, but i played until the last turn to get a little more exp for my units and counquer the enemy SH (+20pp).
I made a stupid mistake twice... when i moved my units without any ammo left :doh (That happens quite often to me :lol )

Current scenario: His Majesty visits Sedan

The french forces at Sedan and in its vicinity are surrounded by the large german army.
In the opening turns i tried to build a connected front line and then advanced the french positions from all sides. My forces closed in on them and destroyed unit after unit.
At the end i thought i had been to hesitant and that i would not be able to get a BV here but finaly i got a BV in the very last moment when i took the last VH.
My 4 core units had only little impact in the battle.

I bought a combat support infantry, a marines infantry, a light arty and a heavy cavalry and made the 1 turn BV :D
It seems i collected 200pp more than Mark  :-D Probably i took more flagged hex at Sedan?!

Current scenario: Pemba Uprising

With the pp i had earned at Paris i bought an additional marine inf. Mark later told me, that i could have upgraded my gun for free. I didn't notice :doh I'll do that in the next scenario ;)

When we arrive on the scene there is already some fighting on Pemba island. A german diplomatical mission is under attack of angry warriors.
Luckily our core was on a trip around the world to "show the flag" and instead of heading to the ports of Australia and Chile, we steam down the east-african coast :D

The scenario again showed my weak point. I often fail to bring my arty into battle and train it well.
The horse-drawn and low range arty gets only little exp and i hope i do better than at the "A long journey to freedom" campaign were i didn't raise a single arty leader :fit
Apart from that, the warriors were no match for my army and i got two nice leaders for my recon and ship.

Current scenario: The Sultane of Zanzibar

This is another island hopping scenario in the indian ocean. At HQ i sidegraded my arty.
I embarked my troops and sailed across the Zanzibar Channel. The core made landfall south of Zanzibar City and the northern auxes invaded the island from the northeast.
A 3rd aux landing party embarked in Dar es Salaam and approached the island from the south.
With these attacks from all sides i made a last turn BV.

Current scenario: The Germans to the Front !

At HQ i bought a second arty and sidegraded some infantries.
We start in the southeastern corner of the map at the chinese coast while some auxes defend the chinese capital in the northwestern corner of the map.
Our task is to secure the coast and then travel to Beijing as fast as possible to relief the Beijing garrison.

While the battle in the south was not very hard...only my cruiser got nearly sunk by a bad battle result. Luckily some more aux unit appeared, along them a destroyer ;)
Meantime in the north more and more enemy units appeared around Bejing, but the aux were able to hold the line untill i came to their relief.

The scenario was great from the beginning till the end and no changes are required.
Only train transport didn't work. There were 99 RTP available and the units are able to use RTP but i was impossible to embark them.
Aux forces that appeared embarked in RTP worked as they should.
We have to look into this.

Current scenario: Invasion of Heligoland

Hmmm, seems i forgot to post my AARs. Got a armored car recon prototype.
Heligoland is a small island and a small scenario it is too ;) I did not deploy all units because there is no space for much land-action anyway.
The free core destroyer is vulnerable to the british naval vessels and has to be protected from enemy cruisers.

After few turns i had to restart. My core was dispersed across the whole map and i wanted to deploy my core units together.
This my biggest point of critique. My core felt tiny on such a large map in such a large battle. But probably that is just me, because i like too keep my core units together.

So in my second run deployed all my core units in the west. Some had to be deployed in the center due to a lack of deployment hex, but i moved them west too. Unfortunately they got shot by artillery from across the river while moving into position. Then i crossed the river at all fronts and after some turns of fighting i took all VHs close to the first river. There were heavy casulties amongst the auxiliary forces.
When everything was under control i sent most of my core units straight down south and most of the aux units to the east. Many of them used rail transports. There were times when more than 20 rail transports were parked behind each other in a long line. I sent about 3 of my core units to the east too, to collect some kills...

Well, in the south my core was constatly harassed my the enemy planes. I couldn't do anything against the planes. Nothing! Omg they were a pain in every of my units :censored
Half a year ago we had planned to give a free SPAD to the player, because it is expensive and no player would ever buy it... someone must have forget about it :poke

All my guns got damaged by the planes. And many more units. There were 5 planes and i was only able to kill two of them when one of my infantry units destroyed their airfield when two of them were landed.
I missed BV by one turn and then played some more turns to collect the flags + prestige. At least i got a leader for one of the guns finaly. Devastating Fire :banana

The taxi attack was cool, story-wise, but distracted units which i could have needed at the VHs. So i'd cancel the whole taxi-attack.
Apart from that i felt that the aux forces and enemy forces are composed very well and the size of both armies is :yes

Now its my turn again to get back to the drawing board. Next stop: Tannenberg

Current scenario: The defense of Budapest

Finaly i got a second proto. I recon bomber...which i sold. I don't like the early WWI planes and will wait for the later planes with highter attack capacities. So i bought an additional artillery, an additional infantry and some trucks for the other units.

The core started in the south and needed 3 to 5 turns to arrive in the battle zone. I had two groups which i sent to the most western VH and the central VH respectively. The central group was larger and had 3 guns, the western group only 2 and no cavalry. I had an unfair advantage because i knew the scenario already from a first test some weeks ago :cool So i builded two defence lines in the west and center, both with the auxiliary units at the front. Later these units were replaced by my core more and more when i gained the edge on the enemy.
The fearless enemies attacked in the west and center and some aux units got damaged but in most cases my support fire was strong enough to repell any attack. The enemy had a plane which caused havoc in my first run when it damaged my overstrengthed guns, but today there was a lot of snow and rain and at the end of the battle one of my MGs finaly shot the plane down.
When the enemy attack was about to be over i moved out with most of my units in order to capture the northeastern VH and some flagged hex to collect the prestige. There were still some diespersed AI units around, but they fell quickly. The scenario is good now, no changes required :yes

Current scenario: The great Counterattack

A pretty hard scenario, but i liked it. Urica didn't get a BV in his test and i didn't get a BV as well. So it will be very hard for everyone i guess.
But i think we should keep it like this. The tension is high throughout the whole scenario and at the end you will have units all across the map. On the picture, from the moment before i took the last VH, you can see, that there are 3 areas where the fight lasted till the end. In the west in Warszawa, at the southern map edge and in the southeast-central area :lol
Actually i had the most problems in the south. There were 2 guns, an MG, a HQ unit and several infantry units on the AI side which were guarding the double VH. I underestimated the enmy troops and it took me much to long to bring enough of my aux units into the battle in the south.
Nearly all of my core units got deployed in the northwest, only 3 of my core units started in the southwest. Maybe i lacked some power here.

I also had to bring in a lot of mobile units in the southeast-central area. After 8 turns or so a hugh enemy cavalry army counterattacked me and there was a long fight until i gained the upper hand after 12 turns or so. My newest ATY got a leader when it jumped the first bar, so that is a nice reward also.

Yeah, great battle. And a hard one. :twink

Current scenario: Unternehmen "Albion"

Perfect scenario :cool I love it.

I had not enough prestige to upgrade my cruiser, so i upgraded one infantry into a field command and bought a car for the other HQ unit. I saved 200pp for later. I need to upgrade my core cruiser in the future, like the other guys did.

I landed all my core troops on the big island and most of the auxes on the northern island. I kept my naval transports out of the range of the coastal batteries and thus i could only land few units each turn until i had established a bigger beachhead.
My biggest concern were the enemy planes. I had to hide my precious artilleries all the time. At least i tried. It worked out and i did not loose a single strength point. I guess the other guys had less problems, but i had not a single plane. Only after i captured the airfield i got a plane proto by trigger.
I arrived at the southern fortress just in time to capture it in the last BV turn.

Kaiser on the moon sounds interesting, or Mackensen landing there in 1918 :lol alright as he was here (not really punishing mood by him) probably he would build some monument to Moon defenders. I'm just posting for fun (and boredom) noticing interesting lines not making fun of you, good luck with works :yes ww2 German fictional campaigns had great replayability and fun factor, but with limited equipment choices of empire days i play x-com ;

Maybe we can add a secret 61th scenario... Invasion of the moon... :lol The maps are already there. But who will be the defender? :lol

Current scenario: Punish the Serbs !

Got a bomber proto and bought a second fighter.
I played that one twice. Yesterday, in my frist try, i didn't know what the best tactics would be and was to cautios and slow. I also didn't expect such a large enemy attack in the west. I got a last turn regular Victory only. I lost several SP from my guns and that made me so angry, that i wanted to play the scenario again :irate :evil :lol

Today (had great fun :cool ) i deployed only 4 core units in the west and the rest in the east. In the west i withdrew all aux units a little bit and builded a defense line. While i was waiting for the enemy attacks in was preparing to cross the river in th east. Soon i had started to cross the river east of Belgrade and with the help of Bulgarian reinforcements, comming from the southeast, i quickly took possession of the eastern part of the map. I then sent fast units to the south central VHs while the bulk of my army attacked Belgrade from behind.
In the east i was busy with defending until the half the scenario was over. Still i had to defend my VHs in the very east, but also started to cross the river towards Belgrade and the center now.
When the battle was over the enemy had only a handful of units left in the very east. I was able to capture VHs (and flagged hex) in time to get a BV.

Current scenario: The Battle of Hermannstadt

At HQ i just bought some strength points for the artillery department and saved 500pp for later. With the saved pp and the pp from the current scenario i am going to upgrade my cruiser in the next scenario, Sicily.

I lacked any mountain units and thus did not deploy any core units in the southern mountains. But i sent the auxiliary Zeppelin down to the south to help the ground units and had no problems to capture the southern VHs with aux units alone.

Meanwhile in the north, the enemy bombers were better fighters than my fighters. But my bomber was a better fighter than the enemy fighter bombers hehe :lol

Like Urica i didn't get a BV here. I missed it by 2 turns and then played one more turn to capture the minor flags.
The fighting was not that hard and at the end i had a huge army gathered in the center of the map. But the last VH, the city of Porcsesd was out of reach.
There were some rivers which slowed my units down. Maybe with better tactics and a more ruthless approach a BV would have been posible.

I don't know if the turn limit should be reworked like Urica suggested. I leave it up to our head of design operations, Mark :lol

Sicily is a monster :eek :monster :lol 40 turns for BV, 150+ enemies. Have you played it?

My Germans are a little more bad than my English (ok bad joke, i know).
What about this campaign? Is it a play test that I can I try it?

Please keep in mind that this is a 19th Century, Colonial Era and WW1 campaign for the KAISER efile.
The campaign is currently under construction and all texts are in german and still need to be translated :lol

You mean the "The Crown of the Kaiser" scenario? I didn't do any upgrades there, that's what i can tell from the reports :huh
Sorry, i can not help you :bonk I don't remember anything about this campaign as the last scenario was played 2 years ago. I don't know what could be the problem and i also don't remember if there were changes to the units in the efile :huh
(And i still think this campaign will never be finished :lol )

Ah i understand! I just changed the name of the unit. But it is still the same infantry.
You can give a name to every unit in your army if you want.
