Current scenario: Bridgehead over Prut river

Right after the start of the attack against the Soviet Union it is our task to lead the 15th Romanian infantry division across the river Prut and capture 3 small cities at the eastern shore. Our core 15th ID starts in the north while the auxiliary 11th ID starts in the south. In the first turn my units started to cross the river and soon after all of them had reached the other side.
I had 3 battle groups, with most of my core units in the north. The biggest group moved to the central objective.

In the south 2 infantry regiments of the 11th ID and a battery of their artillery fought down the single enemy infantry soon and captured the city. They then marched northwards to help in the center.
In the north i send my recon cavalry group around the city and attacked the enemy gun. My cavalry was to weak but with the help of my core infantry units i took out the gun and than attacked the city from various sides. After i took possession of the northern city i sent all units to the center.
In the center i marched slowly forward, trying to gain as many experience as possible on my core gun. At this point of the battle my army outnumbered the enemy by far and i maneuvered my units back and forth in order to favor my core units. Eventually the central city was captured and BV was made after 9/10 turns.

i'm not sure how familiar you are with the no-auto-refit campaigns. Drag's cc57 was the mother of all the campaigns in this kind, and also an easy one at 100% however, there a few things what the most players missed to think about when it was originally played:

- cheap equipments lose more sp, though managing a 100-200pp inf can be cheaper on a long therm than a 600pp engineer, unless you suffer too much rugged defense in a row
- otoh, starting with late 1943, when the soviet army chase you with its r-2 heavy armored beasts, a range-1 pz iii might be useless and you should have either 7,5 pak or a pz iv g/h

of course, it's all depends on your tactics, at 100% you should have no serious problems, what say is that always check your losses to find thee best core composition. money is much more important in this campaign than usually

Current scenario: Battle for Kishinev

At HQ i got a nasty surprise: no auto refit. So i put some of the prestige into refits and bought a MG. Later i bought a small FLAK after the enemy air force started to harass my units in the first AI turn.
After crossing the river Prut our forces are ordered to capture Kishinev, largest city of Basarabia. Our core starts in the southwest, while the German 72th ID is deployed in the north. My core units had some problems, maneuvering in the hilly terrain and crossing the rivers and they gained groud slowly. In the north i had less problems, especially after Luftwaffe units and the Romanian armoured brigade apperead on the scene after few turns and provided some good tank forces for the battle. Eventually i was able to take out all Soviet units in the greater Kishinev region and my whole army approached the metropol from the west and north.
I then attacked the city with most of the auxiliary forces, regardless of the consequences and their strength. My core was waiting in the back, picking out the cherrys to gain more experience. Like in most cases, i played until the last BV turn in which i tried to capture the nearby Soviet flagged airfield - but failed to do so.

I learned that lesson already after the first scenario when i got a little shocked at HQ when i noticed that this is a no-auto-refit campaign :lol
Yes, it is true, no-auto-refit is not one of my favorite features but this campaign is one of my favorite campaigns of all time and i surely will try to finish it in a good way. I played this campaign for other efile(s?)/other versions and there it was a auto-refit camapign, thats why i was surprised now. I will see how good i can manage my losses. My usual approach is maybe a little wasteful. To be continued...

Current scenario: Siege of Odessa Part I

Got a big gun prototype and bought a engineer unit at HQ.
Most of the romanian army has been ordered to besiege and capture the coastal metropol of Odessa. Our core is part of the forces.
I deployed 3 of my core units in the southwest and the rest in the northeast.
The enemy army consisted mostly of bunkers and infantry units. Closer to Odessa the Soviets had some artillery units and there were two ships, harassing my units at the northern coast.
I had a lot of auxiliary units and like always sacrificed some of them in order to weaken the Soviet defences and pash forward no matter the consequences.

In the south i capture the soviet port without oposition and sailed my 3 core units across the Dniester Liman. Their mission was to capture the SH and VH on the eastern shore of the liman. There was only little opposition and of of the units didn't even fire a shot...
In the west and northwest i pushed forward no matter what. The aux units did a good job and i captured all VHs without problems.
Problems i had in the northeast. The hilly terrain and lakes made it an exhausting task to capture the two northeastern VHs. My FLAK didn't fire a shot - my second core unit to do so. Eventually all VHs were in my hands and i played on and tried to capture more of the flagged hex, but the closer i got to Odessa, the better the Soviet units and finaly i made a last turn BV. I am not happy with the performance of my core units. They gained only little exp.

Current scenario: Siege of Odessa Part II

After the Romanian Army took control of the outer defences of Odessa it is now timw to close in on the city and capture the coastal metropol itself.
I wish i could buy planes, but it is not possible due to F/F. So i bought the needed strength points to bring every unit to 10, sold my unlucky Flak and bought a second MG instead as well as two tanks.

Again the core units got deployed in the southwest and northeast. In the northeast the soviets landed some naval troops and i had to fall back a little bit. They had also two ships which provided some good naval support fire. It took me a long time to sink both ships. For example: When i was attacking one of the ships with my aux bomber it got shot by a range 3 AD from across the bay in Odessa. I didn't see that comming :lol
It was kind of schizophrenic, playing a war game but have to hold back my core troops because every lost strength point is costly due to no-auto-refit :irate You can see my engineers and one tank barely gained any experience.

Anyway, in the west i had no problems because i could spam the battlefield with a hugh army of auxiliary units. It was like a tsunami of spam which was comming over the soviet fortifications. I sacrified a lot of the aux units again and didn't care about losses.
You have an aux unit with just one strength point? Then you still can use it to reduce an enemy's entrenchment and ammo :cool

My core units in the south had to hold back a little bit too. There was another ship and long range coastal guns (which could fire at land units). Later i sent my southern core some kilomteres northwards and the could participate in they battle for the city center. But generally speaking: my core didn't play a large role in this battle. I played until i had captured all flags and made a BV in turn 12/13.

Current scenario: Operation "Trappenjagd"

I changed the CC Efiles's german flag into one without swastika. The use of the swastika is prohibited by law in germany and i don't want to cover up all the flags when posting images.

Upgraded my recon and bought 3 additional cheap infantry units at HQ.
There were a lot of german auxiliary untis which faced soviet entrenched infantry positions at the neck of the Kerch peninsula. My core got deployed mostly in naval transports and sailed across the bay, as did some aux units. With a lot of gun fire and endless attacks by my aux units i was able to break through the soviet lines. I stayed south of the canal all the time!
Meanwhile most of my core and some other aux units had made landfall at the southwestern shores of the peninsula.
I then was stoped by some soviet armor. They had one T-34 and one KV-1 as well as some light tanks. I needed like 10 to 15 attacks each to destroy the T-34 and KV-1. After the soviet mobile units finaly got destroyed i pushed north and northeast with my whole army. At my northern flank i was shelling the soviets across the canal and they were shelling me. There was also a soviet cruiser, Krasny Krym, which was harassing my units in the north. I didn't attack the northern VH on the other side of the canal in a frontal assault. Instead i moved some fast units around the end of the canal and attacked the soviet defenders and their artillery through their open flank.
In the center of the peninsula were some bunkers and minefields, but they couldn't stop my advance. With all the infantry units, core and aux, i could destroy all the bunkers quickly and move on. In the eastern part of the peninsula there was only little opposition and i had no problems to encirlce the defenders of the town of Kerch. Now the cherry picking begun: BV would have been possible 4 or 5 turns before the limit but i played until the last turn.

Current scenario: Don's River Bend

No-auto-refit ate up more than half of my money and i had little options and was not ritch enough to upgrade or buy range-2 Pz IV and ended up with buying another engineer and a 3rd MG.

This scenario was so hard, one of the hardest i had played recently, i was like :irate :irate :irate all the time. I even thought i quit the whole campaign or restart and loose on purpose without deploying any core unit :lol

At the beginning i quickly withdrew all aux units and builded a long defence line. I had only few engineers and they layed some mines. Then i waited for the soviets to attack. And they did attack! I had only one good unit, a range-2 german StuG and i did a great job. The rest of my army couldn't match the soviet tanks at all. So i was sending my mobile units left and right and back and forth, whereever they were needed.
Until the ~10th turn i really thought i would not make it, but by that point most of the soviet tanks had already been damaged and i was able to stop the attacks on the western VH at the river. I had to take back my lines a little bit but had also damaged the soviet spearheads and they didn't attack anymore and the rest of the army, which was behind didn't move anymore. So i had complete control of the enemy in the west.
In the center i had my StuG and on the eastern flank i had most of my core units. Thanks to the gods of OG i had a lot of snow and the enemy planes couldn't attack. My own air forcewas just a joke.
In the east i had to take back my lines too when a KV-1 broke through and i had a hard time stopping it. Then the enemy tried to flank me at the eastern map edge and i had to send my core units left and right.
I really would have needed some range 2 tanks... in the final turns i was able to stop the soviet advance and i was even able to destroy all units in the east. In the center were only few damaged soviet units alive. Only in the west were still a large soviet force, but as i mentioned before they were also stopped. So i i was able to get a BV :phew Couldn't belive it and i really was mentally exhausted after the battle :lol

Current scenario: Operation "Wintergewitter"

Got a towed AT proto and sold my two engineers. I had the feeling, that they were much to expensive to maintain. Now that range-2 tanks are available, i upgraded one of my old tanks and bought a new one as well.
I messed up my first run completely. In the northwest i had not deployed a single core unit and was to aggressive with the aux units and when the enemy counterattack started they all got killed. I noticed later that i would still have gotten a regular victory because of the victory conditions. But sometimes i just rush forward and when i am finished at HQ, i have already forgotten the briefing :doh
In my second run i deployed 7 of my units in the northwest, 3 were guarding my southern VH and the rest was part of my large attack towards the enemies positions in the northeast. I had a lot of aux units in the south and my core played a minor role only. Later even more germans appeared and i had no problems in the center and east. I even was able to capture the enemy supply center in the northeast and collect the prestige.

In the northwest i was shelling the enemy one after another from a save distance. My leadered recon did the scouting. I also send my two aux bombers to the north. I crossed the river late, when the enemy counterattack had already started. After many attacks i was able to take out the attacking T-34.
Then my last turn had come. I attacked the enemy VH, guarded by a leadered soviet infantry, with my recon car and a bomber. One MG and my AT fired shots as well. Then my good ol' leadered infantry was ordered to attack the enemy. The odds were looking good. But then... rugged defence! :lol
My last hope was a aux recon... it attacked and the enemy withdrew to the east. The aux recon captured the city and BV was mine :cool

Current scenario: Taman Bridgehead :Krymskaya

The refitting of my units ate up most of my pp. With the rest of the money i bought a 4th artillery for this defensive scenario. The briefing suggests that the soviet attack towards Krymsk will be the most powerful and considering this, i deployed all of my units in the center and the units which had to be deployed in other areas drove to the center as fast as possible. Only one core infantry got deployed in the south.
It was a pretty hard scenario and i had already settled for a regular victory, but miraculously i was able to hold all positions. But i was not able to capture the soviet VH in the east, but that was not a necessity.
The soviet air force was much stronger than mine and the soviet guns had a greater range than mine. So i tried to keep my precious core units together to provide at least a little AD fire. And i tried to stay out of range of the soviet guns.
Despite these problems, nothing special happened. I sent my units, core and aux, left and right and back and forth, where they were needed. The soviets were able to capture my most northern and south central VHs but i recaptured them later and was able to defend them till the end.

Current scenario: Taman Bridgehead : Evacuation

Damn, i had exactly the same scenario idea, but now i see, that somebody had this idea before me :lol
In this scenario we have to fight the soviet attackers and hold a bridgehead on the Taman peninsula and at the Kuban river while we have to withdrew units to an escape hex on the Kerch peninsula.

At HQ i bought an AD and FLAK. After the soviet planes were harassing me in the previous scenario i wanted to protect my artillery units better against air attacks. I deployed most of my units at the front line in the north, at the neck of the Taman peninsula. 6 units got deployed in naval transports and sailed the long way from Anapa to Kerch.

On the Taman peninsula i lost a lot of aux units, but my main defence line never got really threatened before the scenario was over. I sent some units, aux and core, to recapture the port of the city of Taman and sailed few units across the Kerch strait too. They arrived just at the right time, when my other units arrived from the south. They all made landfall around Kerch and destroyed the soviet attackers. There were also some aux units near Kerch which were fighting all the time against the soviet units, but were to weak to do the job alone.
My AD gun did a good job and gained 150 exp. I will keep this one for the remainder of the campaign. The flak i will sell...

I really liked the scenario. It is well done and works perfectly :clap

Current scenario: Crimean Partisans

Got a quite expensive Pioneer proto, which i sold. Upgraded 2 artilleries, 3 of the artillery transports and bought some strength points for 2 of the guns. It is limited deployment and it took me 2 restarts to figure out what units i should deploy and for my final run i deployed my 4 guns and 4 infantries.

This one is a nice little intermezzo. A part of our core is ordered to fight partisans in the snow covered mountains of southern crimea. There are 4 enemy must-survive units (MSU) which have to be located and killed. One of them was to be found in the west and the rest in the center. I had two groups of 2 guns and 2 infantries each. The enemy MSU in the west was the first i took out of the game. The guns range was enough to shell the center and enemy stronghold from a save distance while my infantries approached the enemy positions. My artillery department was the key and opened the door for my infantry.
One of the partisan units was constantly evading. It evaded so often, it was hard to follow across the map :D

Current scenario: Defence of Sevastopol

Bought another tank and AD as well as 3 strength points for one of the guns. I expected strong soviet attacks and that's what happened. I withdrew the aux units in the north and builded my first defence line at the eastern river which runs from the Sevastopol bay to the south. The more the battle lasted the more i had to withdrew and build some ad hoc defence lines. In the north i blew the bridge and the adjacent road was blown by enemy Katyusha fire, both helped a lot and the enemy could only slowly get across the river. I don't know why the AI didn't use the other river hexes in the north. Only in the final turns i had to take my lines back.

The enemy attack in the south was much more serious and a lot of enemies were able to cross the river. Later some enemies apperead in the south too. There were also some heavy tanks like a 13 strength points IS-1. I tried to block the enemy with aux units :lol
The soviets got close to my southern VH but i had a lot artillery aux and they won the battle for me.

This scenario was a little bit to hard for my liking. Yeah i know, i made BV, but the enemy tanks are a little bit to strong. It's just a feeling.
One AD and one ATY each got a reconnaissance movement leader which makes them some kind of SPAD/SPATY :cool The AD even shot down 2! enemy planes ;)

Current scenario: Jassy-Kishinev Offensive : Defence on Dniester

There was a choice scenario which splits the campaign path for just one scenario. I chose the easy scenario, as it was advertised :lol

At HQ i upgraded my AT gun into a StuG and bought strength points for my ATY and AD department.
I deployed my core units across the map and then drove them to their designated positions. I builded two groups af core units in the southeast and center. There were a lot of aux units and i didn't touch most of them to keep their entrechment. Only later i moved them to better positions.

In the southeast i had my units gathered around the VH and builded a defence position. The soviet units broke through the thin lines of aux units in the east, but got stopped by my core units near the VH. The soviet tanks were on par or better than mine, but with concentrated attacks i could take out all of them.
This was the situation at all parts of the front. The soviets were not strong enough to penetrate my lines. Maybe i withdrew some of my units for a hex or two, but in the final turns i even launched a small counterattack in the center, just to get a little more exp.

Yeah, this scenario was to easy and next time i will choose the harder one :ihope :lol

Current scenario: Carei -Satu Mare

I had barely enough prestige to refit my units. One tank had only 8/10 strength points.
After changing the sides we now fight alongside the soviets and our enemies are Hungary and Germany now. It is a short scenario. 9 turns, little fighting. Still, I had to restart once after messing up in the west. I lacked strength there after deploying my units equaly in the west and east.
For my second try i deployed most of my units in the west and only my 3 MGs and 2 infantries in the east. In the east i had enough aux units and they easily took the VHs at the northeastern city. After taking the VHs they moved westwards to capture some flagged hex. I sent one recon cavalry to the north, which lated distracted the enemy counterattack. Lucky me.

In the west i builded a turtle-like formation and shelled the city and area around the VHs. When theVHs were cleared i moved slowly forward, awaiting the enemy counteratack. The enemy fields some good units for this attack. As i wrote before some of the enemy units got distracted and went northwards first.
The fighting was still on and i had only taken one of the empty VHs in the west when the time was over. Still, i had captured enough VHs to get a BV.

Current scenario: Siege of Budapest

Okay, this was not my favorite scenario. I don't like winters. I don't like big cities. I don't like big cities in the winter :lol
At HQ i just bought some strength points. Then i deployed my core units in the east and the rodeo began.
Well, there is not much to say. I attacked the city from the south, west and north and grinded my way through the outskirts into downtown Budapest.
I did not take to much care of my aux units and lost a lot of them. Luckily there were a lot of aux artilleries too.
The fight was costly in terms of next scenario refit expenditures... I was only able to capture 4 out of 6 VHs for a regular victory.

Current scenario: Javorie Mountains

Had not enough prestige to refit all units, so i kept 2 of them in the garage. The map is tiny and there was only little fighting in this scenario.
Maybe i was to cautious in the opening turns or the winter conditions prevented a better outcome, but i could achieve a regular victory only. I had 7 units one or two hex away from the last empty VH but none of them could move in after the last enemies were killed. Now lets move on to the last scenario :cool

and your core doesn't fit for a rattenkrieg :) i'm surprised you have only 4 arty guns. besides buying an arty is always a good choice, for a no-auto-refit campaign it's a "best buy": it rarely loses sp. this campaign is absolutely winnable with only one or two pz iv ausf. g. and 7-8 guns can make a siege like this less painful :2cents

I never play no-auto-refit campaigns and i lack the experience to work around that feature :lol

I had not enough prestige to refit my all my units and had to sell two badly damaged tanks in order to refit the other ones. I am still pissed of :irate :irate
I am sorry, but i just wanted to bring this to an end without much interest. I also lost my core recon....
Now i have to go to bed angry :lol :lol

well done, Clemens! you shouldn't worry about a last scenario, core loss or the result doesn't really matter, so you can do crazy things. i remember once :bs won the seelow heights on soviet side by selling his entire coreand buying +200 cavalry. yes, they died like flies on the windscreen, but when a heavy armored units runs out of ammo, it eventually dies if you attack it with hordes of cavalry :lol so i reccommend you to try interestting weapons, tactics during the last scenario, and don't worry about the result, just feel more fun :winkgrin

what do you think, should we add this intel somewhere? maybe i forgot to copy it, maybe the cc rules were only an unwritten gentlemen’s agreement :dunno (like you can lose the last scenario, you can replay any scenario at any level but at general and fm level players are asked to not reload, etc.) imo we can put them somewhere, there can be newbies not knowing them

as for "cc codex" my opinion is that is mostly useless if someone really wants to break it. game is so easy modded and turn by turn autosave enable anyone to use it against the code without anyone ever knowing really... from me only advice to eventual new players (and i hope we get lively company again but couldn't bet) is that you understand the spirit of this "CCs" in a way now absent guys imagined it long time ago. It's all about fun and interaction (if you feel like "talking" to others) not really competition. I for example join them 15 years ago because they had really humorous "crew" around (and in pub) and some of the top designers then almost never finished campaigns etc. etc. that was all fun, nobody cared. Sometimes even experienced guys do not notice some things and crying about is legitimate :)

they even had CCCs, in which I never took part as sometimes do not even play for long periods and did not want to stop it by participating. My idea about regular CCs for a long time was to make some specific rules for participants like "you play without airforce, you play at this level, you without tanks, without engineers" and something like that but that is not possible nor fun always to those on "loosing side of such draw". have fun and welcome and if you have extra talents to animate us, do not hide it :notworthy

the asterisk is used by mods for those finished cc aars what have been added to the reservation for soh

so if you want to be added to the soh, deal with it, please + don't use it yourself

seriously, Luis and i edit each other's posts time to time when we make a glitch and we never made a problem about it. or Jurgen basically renamed all threads in the designers' corner, idk all changes he made are the best or knot, but nobody complained (so far ;) and here, all things the mods should do is adding an asterisk at the end of the title :dunno , so if you REALLY have a problem with this, then please don't post aar in this forum, or add the "unofficial" to the beginning of your thread in order to let the cc team members ignore your aar. i simply have no better idea

I have to admit, that have no interest in the scroll of honor. I posted my reports to animate the forum and motivate people to play campaigns and post their reports as well. I had some kind of strategic long term vision of a forum where there are new posts every day, so people who are new to the forum will see that there is still a decent amount of activity and that they can easily join the fight against the AI and get in touch with the other members. That was my only intention when i played the CCs and posted my reports. Next to a lot of fun of course :cool :cool
The scroll of honor is not important for me and i don't know 95% of the names anyway. I liked my little ribbons more hehe. But there is no need for any further argument. I will mark my 3 CCs as outlaw unofficial CCs and that's it. Well, one is locked. So i rename only two. Everything is fine :banana

few days ago I was like "Csaba is replying to my post without even reading them" (in cc1 run) then i do the same above... for a moment thought that two of them had some "fight" over cheating from Csaba's words. As we say "i'm not in the flow" about Asteriks thing :D nonetheless - while sorry for using thread for general talks, Randowe - I summarized my view, hope it doesn't die out completely as idea with just older us around ; .... if it does nothing and (as i said to Pzmaniac over) thanks for organizing and trying, hope modding sections (probably more important for users) grow, few of you are really putting a lot of time and effort into it for free :yes
