I did it :lol Made the missing Dicker Max icons. I found out how to use the "automatic color change sliders" in photoshop on icons and now can change icons colors in seconds (if the original icon has "good" colors (don't know how to explain)). Just found out yesterday that Germany had actually an airborne tank in WW2, Pz IC. Never used in this role, but a nice addition to the efile. Like all the other cool stuff, you have seen it here first :lol Germany has 990 units now :bonk :cool

Germany has 998 units now. Had to delete the next country to create more unoccupied spots. This time it was the Don Cossacks.
The Narvik map is finished, i just have to double-check the mapx before it can be uploaded. Then there is only the Narva map left before i can upload a new version of the efile with all the new units, icons and the first 24 scenarios of the ATOMIC Weltkrieg campaign.

The next batch of 22 new icons is ready and added to the same post as before. If someone is interested: viewtopic.php?p=11036#p11036

Just finished my second ATOMIC campaign (after Russian "Forward Comrade") - this time Italian "Legione di Combattimento Navale". Obviously it is rather easy campaign, but provides a lot of fun. I've got regular Victory in the first battle (missed BV by one turn), but the rest want smoothly with all BVs. Interesting idea with purchase cap instead of prestige cap worked good. That is much better than limited deployment used in some old campaigns to keep plater's army size on reasonable level. Prestige provided after scenarios allows to buy and upgrade, so it was always something to think about and to do at HQ. I'm glad I chose this campaign as my new OG adventure. That continue my positive impression with playing with ATOMIC efile and I will try the next for sure (actually I'm now before 10th battle of Atomic Blitz). And I will say here: "U & Q Mortars rule" - I don't need any other artillery :lol
Atomic has many interesting features which you will not find in other places (however I noted many relationships with Basekorps efile) which makes play interesting. I will not discuss here about historical accuracy, particular unit settings, and so on... I don't care about that so much, if we have good playability and entertainment. Variety, that's the reason I like that we have so many efiles. If we will care about strict accuracy, than we will finish with efiles, which are all the same. ;)

I am glad you liked the campaign :howdy There are not so many Italien campaigns, so i thought i design a Italian campaign which features some rather unknown battles as well as some fictional ones. I also wanted to test the Italian inventory :lol

Yes, this efile is build upon BK. It was the efile i liked the most and enjoyed the most because of the unit settings and special abilities.

You think this efile is more unrealistic than other efiles? Take the U&Q mortars. In many (all) other efiles you will just use the biggest artillery available while infantry mortars are never used. But in reality how many of thousands of mortars were used... So in this efile, let's say, your men jump out of the truck and deploy a mortar in a minute. Unrealistic? Dunno :lol But as you say, playability und fun are more important. Actually fun is the very most important!
I'd say, if you can play the Blitzkrieg campaign without a range-6 artillery, the campaign is too easy :lol

The mortars with mechanical movement (Q) in your Efile are what I like. I feel lack this possibility in Gustlik's Efile.

Yep :yes It's not only that a mortar can be set up in minutes. It's also to balance the game and to make a widespread use of the unit specials. But every efile maker has an own philosophy :cool

If there is no balance all players would just use the biggest artillery. So in ATOMIC mortars are mechanized and/or deploy after movement. Artillery gives support fire only until range 6. There are very few 105 and 107mm guns that give fire support at range 7, but of course they make less damage than 150/152/155mm guns. Then there are the unit specials like Q and U and the others. The old efiles do not use them, i guess these features were not availavle back then, but nowadays, i want to use them all to make the efile more interesting. Of course there is also a hugh influencefrom the BK efile :bow
A hugh variety is also the reason why there so many infantry units and units in general... Germany has 999 units now :lol

Basically this means the player has the choice between:

- Light ATY and Mountain guns - range 3 or 4
- Mortars and light SPARTY - range 2-4, fire after movement
- Medium Artillery - give support fire at Range 5 or 6 (7)
- medium SPARTY - same as before but can not shoot after movement
- Heavy ATY - long range and/or high damage, NO support fire

Of course there are exceptions, but the basics are as stated above.

Then i think it is also in the responsability of the player to field the army he/she wants. If a player wants to exploit certain bugs or features, like spamming the battlefield with cheap units, then go for it. I don't care :P If A player wants to field a more realistic army, go for it! Not everything can be predefined in the game/efile.

[EDIT: Sorry for the long text, but there is no short answer. EDIT2: I am talking about a WW2 efile]

Maybe you know that Atomic is build upon Basekorp Efile which is build upon Base and more of the history i don't know. Some of the old efiles share the same E:numbers for the same units so there must be a connection too. But that happend many years before i joined the community.
And i never played PG2, so i don't know what was taken over from that game, be it units, numbers or whatever.

So i took over the stats and unit specials and everything from Basekorp efile. When i added new units i had to make sure it would fit in between the existing units. But i never knew how the numbers of Basekorp and all the other efiles where established. I also found a lot of oddities and tried to correct them and i also have thousands of units that were not present in any of the old efiles. But still i had to make everything fit into the existing system.

I did a lot of research on military equipment for years now and still do almost every day. But many things you can not take 1 on 1 into the efile. For example new built soviet planes with one 12,7mm MG and one 20mm canon. How on earth could they fight against german planes with 2 or 3 times the armament? And that is what a simple formula would do. Everything would be reduced to the numbers but there must be more!

When i read a plane was very good to handle, had a great maneuverability, good rate of climb and was liked by the pilots - but had bad armament on paper...what should i do with it? Same with sloped armor versus 90° armor and things like that.
So first everything has to fit into the existing system and then i have to take things into account that no formula can fix.

I also established a whole new system of infantry units and i am sure it is the most advanced ever :yes You can see it when you look at the infantry class of a big nation in suite. But still it had to fit into the exisiting range of numbers!

Or take the artillery. Maps have a very different scale. On one map the width of a hex is 100 meter and on the next map it is 10km. Most maps have something between 1 or 2 km though but you never know without checking it. So how can i set the range when it would not match the maps anyway?
It is only possible to set the correct maximum range of a gun when you know the scale of the map and if it would be a fix scale for all maps for the game.
For example i decided that guns do not give support fire if their range is more than 6, few guns 7. But this is just because of playability.
One can set support fire for standart guns of range 15 or whatever, but you don't want to play against a AI with such guns :lol

Meanwhile several people played the Atomic Blitzkrieg campaign. It is the most advanced campaign in the efile's portfolio. All other campaigns i built before were just training :lol And Blitzkrieg was just trainign for my next campaign :lol
As far as the players gave me feedback, everyone had fun while playing the campaign. And that is most important for me.
If you want a historical correct game, the game would become unplayable because the engine (OG/PG2) is not build like that.

So fun is the most important thing! If people have fun playing my stuff, i am happy.
If someone wants to argue about the numbers i always say this efile is an fantasy efile. end of discussion lol :lol :lol

I want to add to my previous post that i am alone working on this efile. Nobody else is using it to build campaigns, unfortunately. Well there is hardly anybody left who is working on campaigns anyway.

So i can do what i want :lol Recently i had to delete the nations of German Empire, State of Vietnam, Israel, Lithuania and deleted single units from other minor nations as well. Just so i can add more units to the bigger nations. And that's just what i had to delete recently.
I also plan to delete Cuba and the Rebels, so i can create 60 more spots i can use for other units.
In an ideal world there would be no limit and i could create an efile that contains ALL units of ALL nations in the efile's time frame.
In an idela world we would also have thousands of icons more than we have now. At the moment so many icons are missing, hell, half of the units must have wrong icons :lol I am also constantly swapping unused units around to change their E:numbers. Since nobody else uses the efile, i can easily do it.
Its also about time. An efile is never finished. The work goes on and on and on...

Maybe you need to update your Open General on your old computer. There were some icon updates in the past and if your OG version is too old, some icons won't show up. The ATOMIC Efile should always be taken from the Dropbox, link in the first post.

Please Everyone DO NOT USE!!! the individual Efile version or OG installer Efile version from Open General homepage with date 2021-06-26. Efile is still broken there. I can do nothing about it :dunno

It's nice to hear that you like the campaign so far :cool

I think it is risky to put so much prestige into strength points early. Your army is rather small and every lost strength point will be costly. We'll see how it'll work out. I also would suggest to build a strong fighter department and buy some flak/AD units. Have fun :cool

:scratch Hm, that's not good, I don't like to play with monster armies... Anyway, I have a lot of prestige packed in some add-ons to my units, so I may remove them buying some extra troops instead. I use OS only for my best tank to have one overrun machine, as well as for cheap mortars to give them more punch power or my fighter/bomber which have Influence leader. I hope it will not be crucial and I will be able to go through all the campaign anyway. :ihope

I guess it is just a matter of taste and style of play. I generally think it is risky to put prestige in strength points early. Not only in this campaign. If we would count all the lost strength points in a long campaign the lost prestige would add up to a shocking amount, i am sure.
And there is no prestige cap limbo in my campaigns :banana :lol
Personally i would put SP mainly into units that are unlikely to be attacked by the enemy, like artillery, AD.

Less units also means that the number of attacks a player can execute in one turn is smaller. It is unlikely that one attack will kill an enemy unit, no matter the strength of the attacker. But with two units attacking maybe... There is also the effect of cumulative consecutive attacks that wear down the enemy. Last but not least you sometimes need the numbers to build a front/defensive line.

But yeah, i don't want to persuade you of something. It is highly interesting to see all the different core army concepts and i am sure they will all work out at the end :cool

For example, i like to play with paratroopers, but sometimes i wish i would just buy 2 tanks more and add some fast speed attachments and then full speed ahead :lol

what i did was download into a new folder delete the date so just atomic efie was the name
put that into my open general game folder all saved games ok and new toys/campaigns to play

You can finish playing the campaigns first and update later.
There might be a very little issue. I try to explain:
The efile has 11000 units. 2900 different units are deployed in all scenarios/campaigns.
So i can easily work on the 8100 unused units. For example i swap two of them in the efile to change position = E:number.
BUT, as a player you might buy one of the unused units and have them in your core army and in your savegame.
So when you update the efile and keep your old savegames, one unit might have changed to another one :lol
But you can also have the old efile and the new one in the game at the same time. Just rename one of the efile folders.

In Narvik I felt really blind. At the beginning most of the time was bad weather and I could not see all of the coastal guns and ships. At the end I had to end the scenario with a crippled core army (artillery 1/10 and 3/10, Sturmpioniere 3/10, Infanterie 1/10). Also I should really have bulit an airport, because british airplanes decimated my core units more.
In Sedan I needed several reloads, because I could not get an Infanterie over the bridge in the south fast enough. So it must retreat from the upcoming french units and the way was blocked through a control zone. At the end I needed the luck that the unit got resilence leader and the french tank could not overrun it anymore. :lol
Also I would buy next time a flak or AD for this scenario, because I had no chance against one french fighter.

Yes, building an airfield at Narvik would have been useful. There will be other scenarios were you need/want to build an airfield. I think it is good to have one airborne engineers unit, which can build airfields. You can deploy them at sea, drop somewhere, build an airfield and then embark them at the airfield and fly somewhere else when needed. Fast builder attachment will help, but can be sold in scenarios where it is not needed.

At Sedan there is a counterattack comming up from the south, that's right. There were always so many french units in the south(east) and i always wondered why they are there because there was no VH :huh So now they will attack more aggressive towards Sedan.

But of course it's like with every other campaign. First time we learn about the scenarios, next time we play we'll crush the enemy :cool :cool

OK, another six battles completed, so here is new report of my progress. That was not Blitzkrieg any more - some battles were very hard and seems that BVs will be rare now . Following advice of Randowe I have stopped investments in units overstrength, as well as gradually removed most of attachments to relocate my resources into extension of my army. It is growing slowly from battle to battle, but surely it is still far of being called 'monster army'. ;)
PS: Level bomber purchased for last 'snowy' battle only - I counted on its [W] ability.

so i also started your Atom-blitz camp recently after downloading your new efile... currently at Narvik with something which look like small army, but you weren't generous with money to take so far ;) (have 2 pzii, 2 recon cars, 5 inf of which one is proto transformed into Fallschirmpios, 4 aty of which are 2 88 aty/at/ad pieces for fun, 1 fighter and one TB at total value of 4788 pp) just informatively i'll not post aar's and just dtarted to look at file and your design but do not intend to play fast nor enough detailed to report... you know my situation, not only being from afar :) (and third world, but superpower btw)) but also that i do not play much lately, do not feel hunger for game and wearing sandals with sword and all... as anecdote, spent too much time in HQ looking at units you have there already after first scenario - so many units, too many to be practical in game as most players will never buy any of them ; But it doesn't matter you said you based it on BK and you like details and many units - i'm just old conservative :) who had enough fun with old BP high cost file by Lassie. However, most seriously, new options, new capabilities and some freaky units are welcome :yes (but there is just too many for me) ...when it comes to scenarios, nothing new so far, but Warsaw was realtively unplayed by me, all 3 easy but that's only start....

anyway, as i said that is just to say and i can't simply will do it long so no more comments nor aars as said. (but glad guys are playing your stuff) To the point - i have question, so far in HQ one unit (aufklarungskavallerie 36) on purchase screen is showing traffic sign, triangle with !, so i wonder what that means... i know that it is missing icon, but in concrete that means that i have to update my game, right? (already forgot where is what though i use game periodically) I have to download "core pack" or something else to have correct icons? ...thanks for answer if around and if i don't figure it, have fun with your works, thumbs up i already gave you medal and praise :) Philip K. :howdy Ale, you have to download either the latest full installer of OG or the latest icons pack. Depends on how old your installation is.
Delete ATOMIC efile folder and then download the latest efile version from link in this thread (first post). Keep your savegames*.
Always use the latest (newest) version of the efile from this thread. There will be new icons comming with the efile (equipicons).

* Please not that old savegames might show wrong units as i have explained in this post: viewtopic.php?p=11672#p11672

This is my standing in Atomic Blitz. After some troubles in getting a BV (its hard especially if the AI everytimes cripples your core artillery in the landing scenarios) I finally got another BV. And I was happy that one of my tanks had Extended Front. All range two units at Kishinev attacked one of my recons and were crippled by support fire of the tank. :lol

Haha, I`m a lucky one. The last leaders got to a artillery :cool , a bomber (is okay) and a fighter with recon leader. The perfect coming fighter ace. :cool
But with upgrading the tank I will wait until a better comand tank will be avaiable. I don`t want to lose the good tank with the high attack stats at the moment.

I decided to kick Denver out of the Weltkrieg campaign and will add Harpers Ferry instead. Thus i can use two of my American Civil War maps and create a big map easily. I have to add just a little bit to the west and east of the existing maps. That can be done much much faster than a new Denver map that i would have to make from scratch.
(scale of the map will be different to the standart with just ~450m / width of a hex. But nobody will notice when playing anyway :lol )

Haha yes :lol I wanted to have a big tank battle in front of the Rocky Mountains but since i have to make all these maps i need to save time. I wanted to kick out Denver without substitution but now i will replace it with Harpers Ferry. Harpers Ferry is interesting with the rivers and mountains ranges. And since i can use the two exisiting maps, Sharpsburg is the other, i can finish the big map very fast.

:howdy sympatyk, if you are interested to take a look on the map. Today, one day later the map is already ~80% finished. I merged the two existing maps and added the clean green background, which i posted in the other thread. Then use soft transparent eraser to remove edges and cuts. Add part of river to the southeast and hills to the northeast.
You can still see one of the edges at the brown field near the northwestern city. I will work on that tomorrow, together with missing roads and railroads and cities.
I have already build the scenario in my head with US tank forces comming from the west. Player will start in the east and has to cross the mountains and river and then meet the enemy tanks just west of the river in a finale grande :lol

I always try to have the correct railways but correct roads are no so important for me. There are so many roads today, at the scale in the game every hex would be a road :lol And since we have only one typ of road in the game it doesn't matter if there is a motorway, highway or farmroad in reality :lol

Sometimes i merge the mapx, but it can be very fiddly... I am also under the impression that it was possible to keep the names when merge mapx in the past. But since 1 or 2 years names are not there anymore and i have to rename everything (copy/past from old mapx to new mapx).

So i'd rather create the mapx from scratch, that feels to be the easier option :huh

Merge works with names -> you have to do it one step at a time
You transform both maps into tiled ones - you close the suite
You open the suite - create a new tiled (target) map, save and close
You open the suite -Paste the first map and save - you close the suite
You paste the second map and save - you close the suite
You open the suite and now load an image

I know it's an inconvenience, but I didn't want to write to Luis and keep him busy

It is also possible
You transform both maps into tiled ones - you close the suite
You open the suite - create a new tiled (target) map, save and close
You open the suite - You paste the first map and export the names to a txt file
You do the same with the second map
TXT files - first and second maps - merge ..
You import the txt (merged) file as for the old PG2 ..

You will do it faster than I wrote ... :lol

I know how it works, transfor to tiled map etc.
But in the past, let's say 4-2 years ago, names were copied when i paste mapx. But then it stopped with some new suite and names are not copied anymore. And i am using always the same options.
And names txt does not help because the all hex numbers are wrong in the new map.
It is also very annoying and fiddly to paste a mapx because you have to count all the hex correctly to assign the spot where the upper left corner of the map should be applied.
What is also very important that the columns have to be correct when paste a second mapx. When one map is in even numbers and second map is uneven it does not work. You know what i mean.
But i also did not report the missing names because i was under the impression that nobody else was using these options anyway. Only you and me.
And today we are the only mapmakers left so it is not necessary to change something in suite.
Nowadays i prefer to create a new mapx from scratch which works much better and is also very fast.

Also, when i create a new map nowadays, i work simultaneously on the mapx. So when the map picture is finished the mapx is also finished.
So i run photoshop with the scanned paper map, openstreetmap.com in browser and SUITE at the same time. Then, for example, when i have added a river and 5 cities to the map picture i save the picture, put to MAP folders and instantly add the names in SUITE. That works better for me because i don't have to create the mapx all at once when the picture is finished.

Recently, I was pasting a 778 map into a large map - all names were correct
And the txt file - after import it had the correct assignment
It's probably this English that prevents us from communicating .. :evil

I have in my core a unit that has the same pp with another. EG Fallschrimpioneers and they have transport Sd.kfz 2. In a scenario i want to uprate them to Gebirgspioneers that have mule for transport that is lower pp than the Sd.kfz 2. I upgrate them. If i want to change again, this time from Gebirgspioneers to Fallschrimpioneers i have to buy again Sd.kfz 2. Why I can't sell the transport?

Unfortunately nothing can be done about it. It was never possible to sell the transports in PG2/OG :dunno
(I never played PG2 but i guess it was like this too :lol )

I played a little on your Allied Invasion of Italy campaign...

I do hope that in the future you will work on your ships. Having all light cruisers, heavy cruisers and battleships dropped into a capitol ship category is limiting. Especially since it allows players to upgrade light cruisers to battleships...

Also, some mistakes I noticed on the e-file. B26G bomber. G variant was never used by US. It was designed as such, because it was the export to UK variant. RAF used it under the Marauder III designation. It was basically B26F with some small custom cockpits without any changes to armour or weapons.

Secondly, flamethrower units. These should have low ammo. True, they don't have overrun ability, but they should only be used on offensive attacks against fortified positions. Otherwise, you might see them used as a very cheap defense unit.

Third, support fire from big pieces of arty. Any gun that fires more than range 5 should not have support fire. It makes them devastatingly efficient you will face player complaints about monster arties. Especially if they have a leader. A support fire gun that fires at distance 7 is going to be too overpowered.
I would also caution about SP arties with mechanized above range 3. Those too can be easily abused.

And fourth. Horse transportation. US army did not use horses in Europe. You certainly don't need those for every kind of gun or infantry units. Infantry should have some varied transportation, as I doubt US Marines ever used horse wagons...
