People's General crashes when scenario/campaign starts/screen all black

So after downloading the game I tried playing, when I started a campaign the screen would remain black, the message and date/turn info would remain on the screen, and two or three units appeared but the screen remained black, so I downloaded the high resolution patch, now when I start a scenario or campaign the game crashes.
Anyone know a way to fix this?

Which mod you play ? Did you download it from the website www.peoplesgeneral..de ?

I downloaded Herby's patch from that site, and replaced it with mine, it still doesn't work though unfortunately, the first link wouldn't download because it said the link was malicious, don't know if that's my antivirus overreacting or not, the second I did, but I'm pretty sure it is the same patch as on the first site where I found the download.
Quicktime failed to download though because it is for 32 bit while my PC is 64 bit, could that be the issue? Not sure if DirectX successfully installed or not.

and what does Herbys Peg Wrapper do?
Is it related to the size of the game displayed on the monitor?
I downloaded People's General Vietnamwar
The image is enlarged
Strategic view mode is = 100% map enlargement (actual map size)
The game in the windows window takes less than 1/4 of the screen (about 20%)
Can I set the size of this window? - e.g. at 1920x1080px?
I know it's bigger than the map size .. but it's strange to play on a map enlarged more than 2 times ..

Hello, if i understand rigth you"ve tryd to download the crimian war, be sure there is no virus, it works for me. Try to shot down your antivirus for download and try againe please.

Hello my friend, i play the vietnam war many times per year and i onjoy your maps.
Herbys and svens wrappers does almost the same, sven wrapper does a sharper picture.
For svens wrapper you could use this functions:
Important Hotkeys:
CTRL+mousewheel-up switches between 4:3 and fullscreen
CTRL+mousewheel-down switches between upscaling on/off
CTRL+SHIFT+mousewheel-changes gamespeed
ALT+ENTER switches between fullscreen and 'window'
Compatibility settings : Administrator, (winXP-Sp3)
To play peg in a window size you whish you need a different progamm.

To use it you must remove the wrapper from the peg mod.
Direct x must set to automatic, Renderer to open glide and filter to full belinear filter.

I got it working, deleted the patch and ran it in compatibility mode for windows 98, worked fine, no black screen, can move units etc. Only problem now is how slow it is, the mouse is fine but the units move slowly and fire slow, anyway to fix this? Is there another patch?

You say you play the Vietnam War many times a year .. and did you try to play it on OG? This is the D11 campaign
Because all terrains are not compatible between Peg and OG - I have reworked the map drawings to match the scenario ...
We haven't written for a long time - so let me write a little more ...
I play the G41 campaign (only on 3000px maps and larger) on my maps (those created at the beginning) and I get lost on them ..

Sorry if i ask againe, did you used an istaller from my website ? Svens patch give you a clear picture, in win 10 it works so it should work under win 11.

Sorry, but i have stopt playing OG almost 1 year. I have tryd to use to OG rules for almost 10 years but always failed

Teaching children music does work againe. But my second job , livemusic is almost dead. But no problem, only 4 years untill retirement.

They can lift the restrictions soon and maybe everything will be back to normal
In my humble opinion - shouldn't there be a step-by-step instruction somewhere - how to install and troubleshoot a PEG game?
I didn't have any difficulties, just that I'm used to OG and everything (icons, map) was enlarged. If you play on a small screen - it might be ok. But on a 24 or 27 inch monitor you can see every pixel ..
And why do you need to use backward compatibility of winows? - it seems to me that you do not need ..
And how is the wrapper removed?
And what's it all about ---

This is the first time for long time anyone asked for help. So i think this post is a good help for peg trouble shooting.

If you got the patch or play on xp you dont need any compatibility settings.
And how is the wrapper removed?
To remove the wrapper go to your peg mainfolder and remove the draw dll.

It works now! Thank you both! What I did after hours of trying different settings etc, I went to your site and downloaded the full game and ddraw patch from there and tried that, it worked, no issues whatsoever. I could tell that the game files from your site were complete, I noticed a lot of files from my first download were missing.
