Re: ATOMIC Efile

Post by randowe » 2019-11-09 20:54, Saturday

24th september 2019:
(I will keep the first post of the thread for a overview about the efile and its campaigns.) So here is the latest news update:

After kicking out the 1960s till 1990s stuff i added some more minor WWII era nations. Like Paraguay and Bolivia for a little Chaco War campaign (in the far away future). Stuff like that.

I started to design a short 3-5 scenario campaign: 1942 FROM EL ALAMEIN TO ALEXANDRIA, a one-map-no-core-campaign.
The Germans have to repell the allied attack at El Alamein und then have to fight their way forward untill Alexandria. The campaign make use of my El Alamain and Alexandria XXL map only. I also decided to make it a no-core campaign. 4 scenarios is not enough to develop a propper core, so the player will get one core unit only: HQ of Afrika Korps

Operation Sealion, nothing new to report here. I think i will put this on hold untill i knew what kind of campaigns i want design. More ore less realistic ones?!? :huh

Then i have already made the planning for my Axis Black Sea campaign. The Player will start in the Danube Delta with the 10. Romanian Infantry-Division. At Odessa the player will command the 21. Romanian Infantry-Division too. Later the 50. German Infantry-Division, the 22. German Panzer-Division and the Slovak Fast-Division will join the player's core. The player will have a small air force too and there will an additional StuG unit.
The scenarios will follow this path: Danube Delta, Odessa, Cherson, Perekop, several Crimea scenarios, Rostow, several Caucasian and Taman scenarios and then a retreat to the east. All maps will be new and share the same look like the already finished maps no. 1444 and 1448.
I will try to creat a realistic campaign, so there will be only very few Panzers like in reality. There will be no prototypes, the player won't be able to buy any units and upgrades are limited. I will also use a variety of base strength for the variety of units.

Major Heinz and me were talking about a new joint camapaign project: A allied campaign from D-Day to Germany. It s just an idea yet and we will see if and how the campaign will work out.

I have problems to focus on just one project, so the overall time is becomming endless... :D
Just to give an little update: Standalone Scenarios; Time Frame 1918 - 1959

Despite the recent issues with the roundels, which has miraculously been solved somehow, i am about to finished the first ATOMIC standalone scenario.
There will be a bunch of standalone scenarios for various nations and wars. I think it can be relaxing sometimes to play a scenario with non-core units. You don't have to take care of them and can "just" play.
So the first standalone scenario will be the 1919 Battle of Riga, where two mainly german Freikorps, the Baltische Landeswehr (Baltic Territorial Army) and the Eiserne Division (Iron Divison) are about to capture Rige against an Bolshevik force.
Of course my Efile is mainly a WW2 Efile and i had a little fear when i implemented the earlier years. There was not much space to decrease the values of the units and i feared if it would be possible to have a good game when the standart infantry soft attack value will be just 4. But as far as i have tested, everything will be fine.
There are some little but interesting nations, like the Baltische Landeswehr, the Detachement von Randow, the Kuban People's Republic, Red and White Finland and so on.
There will be mostly short campaigns for the early years and my main goal ist do have the possibility of long campaigns, spanning from 1918 till the 40s or even the 50s. For example, There can be 3 scenarios with a small german core in 1918, at the end of the first WW, then the campaign will continue with the later wars of Germany. I also want to make a campaign about the wars of Finland too. It will start with the Finnish Civil War, then comes the Winter War, the war against the Soviet Union and the Lappland War.
Of course it is possible to have long campaigns, spanning a large number of years, for most of the major countries and when we met here again in 5 years there hopefully will be many of them finished and playable :ihope

For the standalone scenarios i want to have a great variety and want to use as many different nations, battles, wars and years as possible.

Here you can see that the Baltische Landeswehr (blue and white flag) has already reached the outskirts of the city. The Iron Divison is stuck in a fight for a bridge across the Daugava river in the east off the picture.

Re: ATOMIC Efile

Post by randowe » 2019-12-15 16:11, Sunday

December update:

The plan is to release the Efile when the "From D-Day to Deutschland" campaign is finished. Major Heinz and me are round about halfway through the campaign and i guess it will be finished around february. But it is not urgend of course and we have all the time in the world ;)

Recently i started the last major update - the rework of all planes movement points. The slowest plane in the efile has a sped of 110km/h while others have a speed of 1500km/h or even more. So i just use a simple table i created to assign movement points to the planes.
Most WW2 planes will have around 23-27 movement points, so nearly the same as before.

When the Efile will be released for the first time, there will be 3 campaigns and 3 standalone scenarios (see first post). Maybe i have the time to create a 4th standalone scenario about the Battle of Seoul before the Efile is released. Funnily there is no german campaign yet.

The Efile has grown to a size of more than 10500 units. But the end is in sight. With my upcomming icons to be implemented soon and a emergency reserve of 200 unit spots, the unit part should be finished soon.
There are 99 nations now (see flags in first post). One is still a free spare nation and the 99th nation is Kaiju, a Monster nation, just for fun. Their chief of staff looks like this (If someone is interested in making a King Kong icon or Sharknado... At the moment Kaiju has only two units, Godzilla and an ant... :lol ) :

Image

Germany is the biggest nation with more than 860 units, followed by USA, UK and USSR with more than 600 units each. Japan follows with 500 units.
Of course, most nations are small, just 30 - 80 units. Just to make them playable, use them as opponents or in a standalone scenario.
Some nations will have no unit stock at all, besides a naval and rail transport. These flag-only nations need to borrow units from other nations when a scenario is made.

Let me offer you some graphics for the "monster" nation:

Some are complete PNG, some are complete BMP while some are still spritesheet in BMP. Decide what to use for Kaiju!

Re: ATOMIC Efile

Post by randowe » 2020-02-02 13:05, Sunday

February Update :howdy

Both allied campaigns are in a more or less final state. Major Heinz and me have to do just 2 scenarios and the "From D-Day to Deutschland" campaign will be finished. The "Allied Invasion of Italy" campaign is finished and i am 1/3 through final playtest.
Major Heinz will then update his "Forward Comrade" campaign and we will run a final playtest as well. Then the efile will be ready for release.
I have added almost all units i ever wanted and have now around 10800 units in the efile. Once the icon libray is updated, i will add the missing units and the whole unit part should be pretty much be done. Then 2 or 3 years of additional tweaking will follow :lol I mean, an efile is never really finished ;) But that won't stop the release.

That gives me the chance to take a look into the future and make the planning for my next campaign: "Axis Black Sea Campaign".
I will try to built a more realistic campaign... as realistic as possible, within the limits of a video game. There will be no protos and no purchase. Upgrades will be limited and i will use buy lists to limit the upgrades to realistic choices . Overall i want to have a more realistic core composition. Almost all maps will be new, but many maps will be used more than once. I will use real situation maps as scenario intro pictures.
I know many players won't like some (or many) of the features, but i don't care :P :lol

After the first scenario the player can choose if he wants to add a cavalry or mountain division to the core and two different scenarios will follow. That will be the only split and the rest of the campaign will be linear. The campaign path will be 29 scenarios long and overall there are 30 scenarios. One day i had the idea to split the campaign later and send the player either to Stalingrad or on the planned path. But then i would have to find an other campaign title ;)

Here is the planned path:

1...Falciu..................................................1.7.41......Player gets 21. Division

2a..Chernivtsi..........................................................Player gets Mountain Div.
2b..Prut Crossing at Repicini ??.........................4.7.41......Player gets Cavalry Div.

3...Moghilev ??
4...Odessa I...............................................7.8.41
5...Odessa II.(Wrong date)..............................8.8.41
6...........................................................................Player gets both german Div.
7...Nikolaev................................................12.8.41
8...Dnepr I (Crossing at Beryslaw - Kakhovka)........30.8.41
9...Battle of Asow Sea.....................................7.10.41
10..Crimea North..........................................17.10.41
11..Rostov I................................................15.11.41....Player gets Slovak Div.
12..Rostov II (Soviet recapture Rostov)(Winter)......1.12.41
13..Soviet Kertsch-Feodossijaer Operation............26.12.41
14..Crimean Partisans (Winter)........................1.3.42
15..Unternehmen Trappenjagd..........................8.5.42
16..Sevastopol I...........................................7.6.42
17..Rostov III.............................................19.7.42
18..Krasnodar.............................................8.8.42
19..Maikop...............................................9.8.42
20..Kuban / Novorossiysk...............................22.8.42
21..Vladikavkaz I (Campaign turning point).........11.42
22..Vladikavkaz II (Soviet counterattack)............12.42
23..Rostov IV (Winter)................................12.2.43
24..Kuban Bridgehead I.................................6.3.43
25..Kuban Bridgehead II (Axis Evacuation)...........1.10.43
26..Dnepr II.............................................12.11.43
27..Odessa III (Axis Evacuation)......................10.4.44
28..Crimea East (or North)............................12.4.44
29..Sevastopol II (Destruction of Player Army)......7.5.44

And here are the planned units. I will post a picture to keep the format. I think i will add a AD unit to the Romanian 21. Infantry Division and overall there will be more or less 52 core units at the end. The player will receive the Air Force and Army units bit by bit. I also want to stage some unusal units like military police and a armored train as well as ambulance and repair trucks which will work as healer units.

Please note that the names are not necessarily correct yet. I also was too lazy to research the Luftwaffe units yet :lol
Please also note that this campaign is not about a certain historic unit in the first place and a division may not field all divisional units in order to not get a too large core.

10800 units - that's impressive! Looking forward to the release!

And I like your ideas for the Black Sea campaign. I always try to play campaigns with a more or less realistic core OOB so your thoughts knock at Schweini's open doors. :winkgrin

Some questions:

- Can losses be replaced when there's no purchase?
- Will you use attachements? (IMO attachments are fine early in a campaign but tend to overpower units in the long run.)
- No aircraft in the core?

von Schweinewitz wrote:- Can losses be replaced when there's no purchase?
I don't think so. I have not found a solution yet. I would not know what unit the player will maybe or maybe not loose and in which scenario. What if the player looses an infantry and buys a tank with the money intended for upgrades? Some expensive units maybe can not be replaced at all because i would have to hand out a lot of money. There will be no cap, so... ;)
The briefings will say that a player should upgrade only within class and country and i will build the campaign with that in mind. I really don't care if people do not play by the rules but i don't care for :whine as well :lol

And, how many units should the player be able to buy? I mean, it is possible to limit the purchase of units in the settings (buy units cap), but it is impossible to know how many units a player would loose. The campaign will be planned and all scenarios will be build for a complete core. Also things like: In the recent CC players were selling off their core units to buy the same type with some more exp? That is not possible in reality and will not be possible in the campaign.
I see it more like a role-playing-game were you are tied together with your units no matter what awaits you :lol And you would not play on with a lost core unit.
The focus sould be the realistic OOB and also should be more on the game play itself and not so much on victory types and hunting BVs. For example, that after-scenario-prestige will be the same for every victory type. I never understood why weaker players should be punished by getting less prestige. I mean, would strong players need more prestige than weak players?

On a more general note i can say that this campaign will be also a prototype for me because i want to build most future campaigns like this (realistic OOB) and try to have a more realistic approach with all the rules and settings. But a prototype campaign needs field evaluation and testing under fire first :lol

I already said it at other occasions, i guess, every campaign designer builds the campaigns (with the rules and settings!) he/she would like to play. So there is a lot of variety and that is good :cool
von Schweinewitz wrote:- Will you use attachements? (IMO attachments are fine early in a campaign but tend to overpower units in the long run.)
Yes, there will be attachments. With his after-scenario-prestige the player can buy attachments, overstrength his units or upgrade his units. There will be no prestige handed out during a scenario. Because most player would save it for later anyway... Repairs during a scenario will be done with the help of the healer units.
The enemy will get some attachments as well.
von Schweinewitz wrote:- No aircraft in the core?
There will be aircraft! At the moment i have planned for the player to get 7 core planes. Do you see the picture i posted with the list of core units? At the bottom you can see that there are 4 Romanian and 3 German planes.

Damn it! Missed completely! That's me shitposting at "work" ... :beatup
The focus sould be the realistic OOB and also should be more on the game play itself and not so much on victory types and hunting BVs
A very likeable approach. I don't care much for so many rules either (except for my own "Hausregeln"), I hate cap and low prestige etc., and therefore cheat like hell if I'm in the mood (one reason I never do CCs); I'm just having fun with the game play and the historical setting.
I see it more like a role-playing-game were you are tied together with your units no matter what awaits you :lol And you would not play on with a lost core unit.

This is so very true ... :winkgrin

I'll stay tuned.

Interesting design! Is this a great scale campaign, or rather a one-winter-evening stuff?

Well, there are around 240 units in the first scenario (one division has around 8 to 10 units (a scale i like) :cool ), so i think it will take some time. As i said there will be just one XXL map and i will try to "connect" the scenarios as best as i can. Every scenario should start were the previous scenario ended. There are 4 scenarios planned. The first will be the allied attack at the 2nd Battle of El Alamain. This time the Axis will be able to hold the line...well it depends on the player :lol
The second scenario will be an Axis attack on El Alamein. The 3rd scenario will see the German and Italian forces advance through the desert and the 4th and final scenario will be an large scale attack on Alexandria and the surrounding area. But i have only the first scenaro ready yet...

This campaign will also be kind of a "protoype" for one-map-campaigns which should simulate ongoing operations with "connected" consecutive scenarios. It is an idea i had and i want to test it :yes

There will be exclusive standalone scenarios which are not part of any campaign for winter evenings ;) Two are finished, the 1919 Battle of Riga and the 1954 Battle of Dien Bien Phu. I hope to finish two more standalone scenarios before the release of the efile, the 1919 Battle of Cesis and the fictive 1959 Blue vs. Red, a Warsaw Pact large scale attack on middle Germany. Player will take command of the Nato forces and has to repell the enemy attack and launch an counter attack. This scenario will make use of my latest "Harz" map.

Post by randowe » 2020-03-23 21:02, Monday

Just to give a little update:

The unit part of the efile is pretty much finished. Recently i finished the last major rework, the new plane speed system.
It is not perfect, because the plane speeds differ a lot. There are WWI biplanes and early cold war jets within the time frame of my efile. Most planes from WWII will have a speed of around 23-27 hex/turn.
Overall there are around 10970 units now. Of course i could add thousands more, but Luis will torture me if i ask to raise the limit again :lol :lol
Just kiddin' ;)

As i said before the efile will be official released when Major Heinz' campaign is done and dusted. But there is no hurry we have all the time in the world. For me it doesn't matter if i release it this or that month.

Meanwhile i already started with the Axis Black Sea campaign. I decided to use some older maps too, so i can speed of the campaign making process.
The first 6 scenarios will look like this:

1...Falciu..........map 1500.........player gets 21 Romanian infantry division
Choice
2a..Iasi............map 1499..........player gets romanian cavalry brigade and air force units
2b..Iasi............map 1499..........player gets romanian mountain brigade and air force units
3...Kishinev........map 20
4...Odessa I.......map 1498
5...Bessarabia.....map 371
6...Odessa II......map 1498.........player gets 2 more air force units

The next map, Nikolaev, i still have to design.

Recently Aleksandr and me were talking about the El Alamain - Alexandria campaign and i told him that it will still take a loooog time ;) But then i started to work on it again and now the campaign is pretty much finished. There are 4 scenarios taking place on the same XXL map. The scenarios are quite large and you will meet more than 650 enemy units (some of them fortifications) in these 4 scenarios, where you have to grind your way across the map from east to west.
I will now give it a rest and do a final playtest in 1 - 3 months time :ihope

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the player has only 2 core units in this campaign. A HQ unit and a heavy (Tiger) tank detachment. It can be pretty relaxing when you don't have to look after a large number of core units.
I thought 4 scenarios is to short to develop a propper core and so there just these two core units. There are also no protos and it is not possible to buy any units.

I guess Major Heinz needs more time to rename his campaign files...so i will wait with the official release. But if someone is interested and wants to take a look at the efile and campaigns, just send me a PM and i will mail the latest build.

At the moment you can play the following campaigns:

1939-45 FORWARD, COMRADE!
1941-44 AXIS BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN (under construction, 7 scenarios playable)
1942 FROM EL ALAMEIN TO ALEXANDRIA
1943-45 ALLIED INVASION OF ITALY
1944-45 FROM D-DAY TO DEUTSCHLAND

While i am working on my new Perekop Isthmus map today, here is a little update of my AXIS BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN path. I decided to add a exit at the end of 1942. The player can choose to go to Grosny and Baku and end the campaign with a win instead of playing all the hard and depressing scenarios in 1943/44 :lol I am not sure yet if i will use a choice scenario or if a BV will be necessary.

The other Black Sea camapign, the Soviet Black Sea campaign will start with 4 scenarios from the civil war and then continue in 1941 and mirror the axis campaign. In the civil war, the player will command a cavalry division and will fight against the Kuban People's Republic and White forces at the Dnieper (Kakhovka) and Perekop. Unfortunately the campaign name "SOVIET BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN" is already in use, so i have to choose something different.

1919 - 1944 RED FLAGS, BLACK SEA

1 Kuban People's Republic
2 Ulagay's Landing
3 Northern Taurida Operation
4 Siege of Perekop

1941 - 1944 AXIS BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN

AT the moment the path looks like this. I am not sure if i should add a little anti-partizan scenario somewhere. Or the german raid on Mount Elbrus. We'll see :huh

1941

1 Falciu
2 Iasi
3 Kishinev
4 Odessa I
5 Odessa II
6 Nikolaev
7 Dnieper
8 Melitopol
9 Berdyansk / Battle of Azov Sea
10 Perekop Isthmus
11 Rostov I
12 Rostov II (Soviet counterattack)

1942

13 Unternehmen Trappenjagd / Kerch
14 Sevastopol I
15 Sevastopol II
16 Rostov III
17 Krasnodar
18 Maikop
19 Kuban / Novorossiysk
20 Vladikavkaz I

Path A

21 Grosny
22 Baku (Player wins campaign)

Path B

21..Vladikavkaz II (Soviet counterattack, campaign turning point)

1943

Yes, it is working than intented. The Efile has more units than old versions of the game can handle. But all campaigns (and their respective nations) that are available at the moment do not use units above unit number 9999. So there won't be a problem.

If you want to avoid the error message you can download the latest OG exe from Luis' site or see this forum post for RC10:

Fantastic news everyone - there will be another ATOMIC campaign :cool

For about 1 year i was thinking about how to create a semi-fictional campaign that takes place in the mediterranean theatre and features a core of combined arms. Finaly i decided against a German core and went for Italy as the only player core country. Germany will be an auxiliary country though, as well as Nationalst Spain in the two scenarios that take place in the Spanish Civil War. So the player has a small and specialised legion with marines, paratroopers, ships and some other units. Now i started to design the campaign as a little project besides my much bigger black sea engagement.

EDIT: Well, in the very last scenario, Rhodes, the player has to face Germany and thus has to fight the former ally. In History the Germans won the battle, but i think in this campaign the player will be able to turn the tide... :lol

Image

The first 3 scenarios are already done. Now i just need one new map - Tirana and Durres, Albania. The italian occupation of Albania is a often overlooked and i guess (don't know for sure though) it will be featured for the first time in OG. (Map is 50% done already).

The overall difficulty of the campiagn will be easy and i guess for veteran players i will be even more easy, but i want to have some easy campaigns in my Efile to create a beginner-friendly environment.

The path is as follows:

1 Second Italo-Senussi War........16.6.27
2 Battle of Mallorca.................16.8.36
3 Catalonia Offensive..............20.1.39
4 Albania.............................7.4.39
5 Sidi Barrani........................13.9.40
6 Gibraltar (Op.Felix)................10.1.41
7 Yugoslavian Islands (Dalmatia)...10.4.41
8 Corinth Isthmus....................26.4.41
9 Guns of Navarone.................18.5.41
10 Crete (Op.Merkur)................20.5.41
11 Alexandria........................18.12.41
12 Suez Canal........................24.12.41
13 Siwa Oasis........................1.7.42
14 Malta (Op.Herkules)..............14.7.42
15 Battle of Rhodes..................9.9.43

Thank you!

While i am waiting for myself to finish the next maps :bonk i started to convert some of the good old Blitzkrieg scenarios just for fun. Untill Dunkirk everything is okay. I just replaced Suomussalmi with Warsaw and Lillehammer with Narvik. Now i think about where to go after Dunkirk. :huh Should there be one path or two or more... I'd like to mix the good old spirit of the "traditional" Blitzkrieg campaigns with new (and bigger) maps, new scenarios and all the new OG features. We'll see...

So by the end of the year, there could be 7 ATOMIC campaigns already. Sounds good :lol

EDIT: I added one more (flag) country: The anarchist Black Army of Nestor Makhno. I want to try to create a HQ command infantry with a plain black flag for it. It could also be used for other anarchist or partizan/irregular forces as well :ihope
I also added a hand full of new units and there are are 10986 units now. 12 empty slots left...

Just a little update:

ATOMIC EFILE

Added few more units and now there are 10998 units and no more free slots. I guess i could thousands more units und some more countries, but for now i will give it a rest. It is a pity that there are so many missing icons.

[Just a dream: If it would be possible i woule make a efile with 20000 units and 200 nations, making every possible nation and faction playable from 1900 - 1959. But that would also require thousands of curently missing icons.]

1939-45 FORWARD, COMRADE!, by Major Heinz

Major Heinz finished his latest update, namely reworking the campaign files and now the campaign is finished. We just have to add the map names to some of the scenarios.

1941-44 AXIS BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN

Nothing new here :P I am still waiting for myself to finish the Berdyansk and Taganrog maps.

1927-43 LEGIONE DI COMBATTIMENTO NAVALE

The campaign is 2/3 finished. I decided to add one more scenario, Operation Husky, where the player has to repel the allied landings. Now there are 16 scenarios overall. As i said before, i want to make it an easy campaign. Making it easy can be kind of tricky, but i hope campaign will be a interesting one for new players and beginners.

1938-45 ATOMIC BLITZKRIEG

I am 2/3 through this campaign as well. About half of the scenarios will have a new map, especially in the second part. I will use many of my new 3K maps instead of the small maps. Think about old Windsor with a 55 unit core... Now i will use my 3K Lodon map instead. There are few completely new scenarios as well, like Rostov and the upcomming 24th scenario "Steppe Blitz".
There will just one campaign path and the campaign will have round about 36 scenario overall.

Here is my AAR after 23 scenarios:

Much more views than any other thread. Since yesterday it increased by 10000 or so :eek

Yeah, three and half hours later i got 4000 views more. It's kind of scary :eek Bot army never sleeps...

Maybe i wrote something that shows up in some g**gle results. When JP's still existed and i looked for some military equipment using g**gle, sometimes a thread at JP's showed up prominently in the results. But i doubt that's the case here. Still it is scary to see the numbers increase that fast within hours.

Anyway, release of the Efile will be soon. I'll run one final playtest of my Italian campaign in the next days and at the end of september i want to compile a "official" version of the Efile and 5 campaigns. There will be also a version which contains the latest build of all campaigns that are currently being developed. In case somebody is interested... ;)

So far i am using only one of the XXL maps. I fear to mix them with the "standart" maps because people may don't want to play that long or even can't display such large maps. So far i've made only one campaign using an XXL map: 1942 From El Alamein to Alexandria
Find my playtest here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=384
Of course i want to use all my XXL maps in the future, but i still have to figure out how to do it the best.

I know none used my XXL New York map as final scenario in his "The Marine Expeditionary Force" campaign for his NOKORP Efile.

When you want to play on large and very large maps, i'd like to recommend to play Gustlik's (for his Efile_Gus) campaigns G35, G36 and G45. They use sympatyks and my XXL maps.

True. I had Csaba abandon my GWC playtest when he reached Rostov scenario... :dunno

True. I had Csaba abandon my GWC playtest when he reached Rostov scenario... :dunno
But Rostov (no. 1365) is not that big... XXL maps are much much bigger. Rostov has 2.4 million pixel while XXL Alexandria (no. 50005) has 21 million pixel! So it is 9 times the size of that Rostov map. Alexandria has a lot of water though. But still the land mass is roughly 5 times larger.

But yeah, i guess it is always a thin line between playability, personal preferences, spare time,..
When i play large scenarios i often take little breaks between the turns.
But i also enjoyed playing Gustlik's campaigns, which i mentioned above, use all the hugh maps. Especially in a modern theatre, were all units go faster and some have a great range, map size can be bigger.

I must say, my favorite map size is 3150x3000. It is perfect to play large scenarios but not too big in my opinion.
But i also use smaller maps. Of course it depends a lot on the scenario you want to build.
In the early stages of an campaign, when the core is still small, it is probably better to choose a smaller map.

Thats why i am thinking to "outsource" XXL maps into special campaigns. But as i wrote i have to think more about it and have no concrete plans yet.

Great news everyone, after 2 years of work - featuring 10998 units -
the ATOMIC EFILE is finaly finished and available for download at open-general.com.
For download, just klick on the download banner below. In the first post of this thread you will find a list of available and future campaigns too.
There will be probably still many small errors and typos and it will take me another two years to fix them :lol

I want to thank Luis and Csaba for literally everything, their time, patience and work they put into OG :bow
Many thanks to Puma for his wondeful Basekorp Efile, which is, yeah, the base of ATOMIC.
Thanks to Urica, Leon, Juankar, Sympatyk, Santiago, Dragdasan, Gustlik, Spasteur, Kessler, Clu, Wonderdoc and all other map and icon makers!
Thanks to mythos and none for the technical expertise. One can learn a lot just by reading their posts (none's posts back at JP's) ;)
Special thanks to Major Heinz for making one and a half campaigns for ATOMIC :cool

I played the atomic 4 june efile without problems. Now i did a clean install* and in the italy naval campaign there are a missing icon and the old error "...onl 9999 are loading" is also there. Is there a new Open General Version that i missing or is this working as intended?
https://www.directupload.net/file/d/598 ... 9o_jpg.htm

Even with the RC-Version is the icon missing and the error message on starting.

Hello wallander :howdy

Hmm, there should be no missing icon in the first scenario as your picture shows. The units do not use new icons.
Anyway please download the latest Icon Pack at http://www.open-general.com/installer-core.php
Then take the 3 files and replace the old ones.

The "only 9999 units..." should be solved with the latest OpenGenRC exe what you can find at Luis' site (version 0.93.3.99.RC13).
In fact it was solved months ago with an early RC exe.

Once there will be a new official Open General version and full installer all these issues will disappear.
But for now, you can play all campaigns and won't miss a unit because the 10000 - 10998 units are not used in the released campaigns. I made sure that people can play without missing units. You just have to replace the icon files.

Thanks for your reply i copied and overwrite the three files and the missing icon is still there. I installed dozens of versions of Open General and the error irks me. :)

Thank you for your help i wait for the next Open-General-Version.

Thanks for your reply i copied and overwrite the three files and the missing icon is still there. I installed dozens of versions of Open General and the error irks me. :)
would you send us a decent bugreport with a savefile, version of the efile, opengen.exe and the openicon.dat (filesize in bytes and last mod. date)

I am embarrassed i had not "OpenGenRC" started now it is working flawless. :)

So, what comes next?

The campaign i am working on, besides the ARMYGROUP X project with mythos, is the ATOMIC BLITZ campaign. The first 33 scenarios have been played and tested and now i have to build the last 5 scenarios from scratch. More than the half of the classic scenarios have been replaced or use a new (bigger) map.
I was tempted to replace all classic scenarios with new ones and change the campaign's name, but some scenarios are iconic like Madrid and i want to keep them for now.
There is just one campaign path and i put the best (in my opinion) scenarios from both paths together. Overall enemy unit count should be something around 2600 at the end.
The plan is, to finish this campaign by the end of this year. Then i will give it a rest and once ARMYGROUP X is done and dusted, i will run a final playtest of the ATOMIC BLITZ. Both campaigns then should be released with the next ATOMIC update. Maybe in March or so :ihope
Here is the list of scenarios and maps:

EDIT: Edited table / 12 Nov & 13 Nov

Of course there is the AXIS BLACK SEA CAMPAIGN, but i am still waiting for myself to finish the needed maps :bonk

I also did some research on what will be the next campaign project i will start in 2021. It will be a campaign about the german 13. Panzer-Division. The campaign will start with 2 scenarios in Poland and 2 in France when the division was a motorized infantry division. The tank regiment will join in time for Barbarossa.
The player will get a core of 24 units. There will be no core planes, no purchase and no protos.
24 units for one division is pretty much and out of scale on most maps, but i want to have all the divisional units in the players core line up. Things like MGs and infantry guns were pretty numerous back in the days, but especially infantry guns are rarely seen in OG. So i want to include things like that, even if the size of the divison is out of scale. On most maps a divison should not have more than 9 units i think. So 24 units is much more and i may have to dismiss auxiliary divisions in some scenarios.
This campaign should become the hardest ATOMIC campaign. Players core line up:

Re: ATOMIC Efile [check 1st post]

Post by randowe » 2020-11-11 22:45, Wednesday

Just finished to play and test the ATOMIC Blitzkrieg campaign. I really like the later scenarios which are quite big. London, New York and Berlin are the biggest scenarios with 170 - 180 enemy units each. "The Battle of Berlin" replaces the old "Seelow" scenario. "London" replaces "Windsor". But as i have previously mentioned, there are many new and bigger scenarios. Maybe its not so much Blitzkrieg anymore with so many enemies, but its ATOMIC after all :lol

I decided to build a campaign which makes use of all the big scenarios from this campaign and many new scenarios as well and uses only 3150x3000 pixel maps. There is a lot of ocean on many of the big maps and the player will have to field a army of combined armes with paratroopers and naval units and such. So there will be two new campaigns i will start working on next year: "13. PANZER-DIVISION" and "BIG GERMAN CAMPAIGN" :lol

I'll now give the ATOMIC Blitzkrieg campaign some rest and run a final playtest in the winter. I'll focus on map making in the next weeks :ihope
Here is the final AAR. Please not that some scenarios names have been changed (As you can see in my previous post -> scenario list).
I kept my Panzer II command tank until the end :bonk It was just too expensive to upgrade it into a better command tank:
