Current scenario: Police action: Shanghai 1937

This Shanghai scenario was somewhat different to the Shanghai scenarios i have played before. This time there is Japanese VH/SH in the southeast. The core consists of a single HQ unit, a leadered fighter and a destroyer. There is some initial prestige and i bought a regular Hohei infantry, a guards infantry and a arty. The guards unit is very expensive but has good combat values. I hesitated a little bit but eventually i bought it.
All of my core units got deployed at the VH/SH and the battle started. There were some initial chinese attacks on Shanghai but my aux forces there did a quite good job and were able to hold the 3 Shanghai VHs for most of the time.

Additional landing forces made landfall just north of Shanghai and 2 Special Naval Landing Force units which apperead as reinforcements some turns later landed in the back of the enemy strongholds which were guarding the bridges in the northeast.

So, while there was heavy fighting in Shangahi i approached the city from the north and southeast and eventually was able to kill all enemy units in the Shanghai vicinity. Then all of my units approached the enemy strongholds in the northeast and with a concentrated fire of all my guns they fell quickly.
My auxiliary ships contributed very effective fire support as long as the battle lasted.

After a fine battle i made BV in the 11/12 turns.

Thanks :howdy Yes, it is similar to the "Rising Sun" starting scenario and uses the same map of course, but there are little differences, like the core starting in the southeast.
I played two CCs if i remember correctly, but when i played the Grenadier Guard, i didn't post the last AAR and then deleted all savegames when i cleaned up the folders and an other japanese campaign was to hard to win and i didn't had the desire to loose several scenarios in row. But now i want to play more of the CCs in the future... :cool

Current scenario: Hsuchou Encirclement

Got a recon plane proto whithout any offensive value. At HQ i bought an additional regular infantry, a second 105mm gun and a armored car. Then i deployed my units in two small battle groups, 4 units in the southeast and 3 in the east. There were some auxiliary units and my destroyer was guarding the river.
At first i overlooked the victory conditions, my usual inattentiveness... The 3 VHs which i held at the start were only VHs for the enemy and i had to capture the only chinese VH in the north.
I established two defence lines, one in the streets of the large metropol of Nanchang and one on left bank of the river, close to the VH, which was captured by the chinese forces but later recaptured by my core men.
After some turns, when i had figured out the victory conditions, i sent all aux forces in a wide maneuver around the bulk of the enemy army. Thir mission was to capture the northern VH and the nearby airfield which provided extra 40pp.
I attacked the enemy VH with my figther first, followed by 3 light tanks and 2 infantry units and eventually the brilliant victory was mine.

Current scenario: Taming the Bear: Nomonhan

At HQ i upgraded my recon plane into the strongest bomber available. The recon plane has no offensive capacity and my tiny and slow moving core army doesn't need a recon plane.
I deployed 4 of my gorund units in the north and 3 in the center/south. There are dispersed auxiliary mongol cavalry in the south and a strong force of aux units in the center.
Well, this scenario was total chaos. It is unclear who is the attacker and who is the defender :lol
The Soviets were attacking me like crazy while i tried to move forward in order to capture the VHs. The scenario is very short and there is no time for getting stuck in the fight. Then some strong enemy fighters appeared on the scene and killed one of my core guns...

So i had to restart!
In my second run i tried to avoid the fight at first or used aux forces as easy bait while my other units tried to sneak around the soviet army.

In the south i used the mongol cavalry to distract the enemy while my 3 core units moved around the soviet forces and eventually captured the VH.
In the center i builded a turtle-like formation and moved it slowly and steadily forward. The enemy had no chance against the combined fire-power of the turtle. There were many enemies left in the center of the map at the end of the day though.
In the north, where i had deployed 4 core units the fighting was easy. The terrain was rough and one of the guns didn't fire a single shot, as did one of the infantries. Thats not a steep learning curve... :lol
When the crazy enemy attackers had moved out i could easily kill the lonely defender of the northern VH. BV was mine turn 6 of 6. Maybe it would have been better to wait for a TV and collect 400pp more of after-scenario-prestige :huh I don't know.

Current scenario: Battle of the 100 Regiments

At HQ i bought a second Imperial Guard infantry. Then i sold my second Aty and bought a larger caliber instead. It has still range 3 but inflicts much more damage.

There were no VHs to conquer this time. The mission was to destroy all enemy units in the area. So there were a lot of VHs under my control at the beginning of the battle and masses of enemy units were attacking my positions from various directions. My core was deployed in the southeast and west. While my western core battle group moved forward to the center of the map my southeastern core battle group moved northwards along the map edge and assisted in the defence of VHs on both sides of the river, where i builded a defence stronghold.
It was even possible to deploy my destroyer on the large lake in the south. There were some auxiliary units around and they did a good job. I really liked the battle with all these small attacks and back and forth movements :cool The enemy attacks in the northeast were the stronges and that was the area were the fighting lasted till the end. I was only able to get a normal victory after 17 turns and picked up two leaders, one dev. fire on my bomber :clap

Current scenario: Liberation of Indo China

I played this scenario twice. For my first try i bought a tank and a flawethrower SPAT at HQ. I deloyed 3 groups of core units. One in the southeast, one in the northeast and one in the northern center.
My two infantry units in the southeast had to walk only 3 hex or so and were ordered to take the nearby VH with the assistance of naval gun support of 3 ships, of which one was my core destroyer. The northwestern battlegoup moved south along the map edge and the northern center group moved a little bit to the southeast. There is not much fighting in this scenario, but i am not a wizard an was only able to get a tactical victory.
Then i decided to play again because i felt that this could not have been everything what i could do in this scenario and i had a strange feeling :notsure about this scenario somehow. Instead of the tank and SPAT i bought two more infantry units in my second run. My tactics were nearly the same (there is not much what i can do different and the time limit is very small) and this time i got a normal victory. Anyway, it is time to move on to Hong Kong :yes

Current scenario: Battle of Hong Kong

I tested several options at the HQ and finaly decided to sell my latest guards infantry and buy a paratrooper instead and upgraded my fighter which always lacked a bit of fire power in the dog fights.

What a battle it was! In one moment i was like :irate and like :cool in the next one. It was very hard and i often thought i would not even get a tactical victory here.

I deployed all my core units in the northeast and my core ship in the south. The paratrooper got embarked in the first turn and secretly travelled along the map edge around the western coast of Hong Kong. Meanwhile i had a lot of problems in the north. There was a strong defence line and i tried to penetrate it in the northeast and at two other points, where some auxiliary troops were deployed. I tried to fight only when needed because my units got worn down quickly.
There was a second defence line around the coastal city and the airfield and when my units entered the city they were all already badly damaged.

Throughout the scenario i bought 2 temporary bombers, but later decided to keep one of them permanently. I embarked my troops at the ports of the northern city and saileed them across the bay. My destroyers did the scouting and provided naval gun fire support. Thankfully i had an aux destroyer with a range of 4, 1 more than every enemy ship :phew
At this point the paratrooper had already taken the 3 southern VHs with the help of my ships and bombers. So i landed my damaged units all across the northern coast of Hong Kong while my bombers did the bulk of the fighting here.
While the figthing on the mainland was the hardest part, the battle on the Hong Kong island was easier and i eventually got a BV in the last possible turn.

There was a choice scenario and i chose to go to the Phillippines.

Current scenario: Battle for Lingayen Gulf

At HQ i sold one of the temporary bombers (and kept the other one) and purchased a second paratrooper, an airborne mortar and a second recon car.
My plan was to send my airborne force of 3 units straight down to the south and make landfall with the rest of the units close to the various VHs at the coast of the Bay. Most units landed in the east and my biggest goal was to drive the to the southeast as fast as possible. I wanted to take the other 2 eastern VHs "on the go".
My airborne force dropped in the south but their performance was very poor. The VH was defended my two enemy infantries and one AD. The AD was so strong, i had no chance... Yeah, the enemy ADs were mighty strong in this scenario and provided effective ground support fire too. So the southern VH was the last one i captured after i had sent all my planes to destroy the AD. My "Devastating Fire" bomber was the key, like so many times before.
I had less problems at the other VHs: at the western coast because i could weaken the ADs and ATYs by naval gun fire support and in the east i had my ATYs.
The turn limit in this scenario was tight and the tension was always high. It was really exhausting but a good fight and i was able to get a last turn BV.

Current scenario: Road to Manila

Got a tank proto and bought another one. I also sold the unlucky airborne mortar and bought a 150mm ATY instead.
There is not much to report this time. I deployed all my units in the north and the mission was just to advance down to the south and take some VHs on the way. In the far south was a part of the sea, but my destroyer had zero impact because its guns range was to short.

Anyway, i was to slow and could ony achieve a normal victory. The fighting was not that hard but the enemy ADs slowed my ground units down a lot.
I am above the cap all the time but i have only 5 free units at this point and none of them needs an upgrade and maybe never will need an upgrade again. Buying strenght points is also not an option because i would loose them in every scenario. I'll see... :cool

Current scenario: Bataan

At HQ i purchased a range-6 ATY. Then i deployed most units in east, 2 units and my destroyer at the port/SH and my two paratroopers at the airfield in the northwest. On the peninsula i sent all units to the eastern coast, so i could concentrate my fire there. There was a strong defence line all across the neck of the peninsula and i thought the best plan would be to attack the enemy defences at only one point, so i could save most of my troops for later and avoid a extensive loss of strength points. And it worked out prefectly :clap

Meanwhile my two NTP and the destroyer were sailing south along the western coast. There was only one naval gun, close to my port, which hampered my advance a little bit in the opening turns. The two paratroopers were in the air for a long time, waiting for a save landing ground to be discovered and to get dropped there. I eventually dropped them near the southern VH, (after my fighter did some recon sorties) but out of range of the defending AD. This time the enemy had range-3 ADs, which in turn were not able to attack ground units :phew

In the east, after i had crushed the enemy system of bunkers and fortifications, i had sent most of the faster units along the road across the peninsula to the west and then down to the south while my guns and some aux units captured the eastern VH.

I was lucky twice. First one of my recon cars got a [C] leader and then i was even more lucky when a enemy SPAD had sneaked through the dense jungle up to the north, captured my SH, bought a recon motorcycle and attacked my VH/airfield. I had only one ATY there, guarding the VH and one bomber close enough to help out. I made BV in the last possible turn. One turn later the enemy would have captured my VH :phew

I found out that i missed the Manila scenario because i missed BV at the "Road to Manila". A pitty :doh

Current scenario: Siege of Corigador 1942

I got the same tank proto again. First i wanted to do nothing at HQ because i wanted to save my money for a second fighter, but then i decided to buy a temporary cruiser. The map is tiny, the turn limit is tight, maybe the cruiser will help here...
Well, there is not much to report. I attacked the small island of Corigador from the northwest and northeast while some of my guns provided support fire from across the bay. On the island i destroyed the enemy ADs first and landed my paratroopers and other toops. Some naval transport got hits by coastal guns, but nothing serious. I missed BV by one turn because i had no units left which could enter the empty VHs in the western part of the island at the end of the 4th turn.

I am glad you like my report :howdy I try to keep it interesting with the pictures and stuff, so people enjoy the read. I have also some more ideas for the future to include more war time photos and historic documents from time to time. I already have my next CC planned like this in my mind :cool

I just hope that the hosting site will keep the pictures for another 10 years (and more) and that they won't delete them or break the links or close the site at all. You never know on the internet....

But the intro text says i should kill all enemy units and i did what the scenario designer wanted the player to do. So i killed all enemies.

I deployed both paratroopers, my destroyer and an additional infantry in the river delta. The rest of the units was deployed in two battlegroups at the eastern map edge. I tried to be fast in the east because i thought it would be a long way across the river delta. I captured the northeastern VH without much problems after few turns but when i had left the scene, some enemy infantries arrived and i had to sent some of my units back to the VH.

My southern battlegroup was split into two smaller groups and some units drove to the nearby port to get embarked in naval transports and some units followed the road to the north. In the north i builded a defence line at a bridge which was approached by aggressive enemies. I saw that many enemies from all across the western part of the map drove up to the north, but at the bridge i could stop them all and kill them one after another.
Meanwhile i landed my units around the metopol and cleared the VHs without much restistance. I did not use my paratroopers until other units had arrived in the west. Most notably my combat support recon car.
BV was possible 3 or 4 turns before the limit but i played more turns to capture some flags and collect the prestige.

The Chinese Communists guerrillas have staged a massive up rising and our local puppet forces are having difficulties containing it. Your mission is to hunt down and destroy every enemy unit before they can disappear into the general population.

(Please note that you will have to kill ALL enemy units in order to win this scenario. You can't capture the enemy held vic hex
The scenario text is correct. A player can not capture the VH which is outside the map. Of course a player can capture all other victory hex, but not the one which it outside the map and can not be entered with a unit.
I even tested it yesterday again. A player can not win by taking all VH, because the last VH is outside the map. So a player has to kill all enemy units. The intro text is correct and the scenario works like the designer wanted it to.

EDIT: I can only speak for myself, but after i had read the text and started the scenario i knew 100% what the designer wanted me to do. And it worked. And it must have worked for other people in the past too. Otherwise it would have been changed :huh So let us stop the spamming of my CC please :P

Current scenario: Breakout th[r?]ough Mandalay

Got a nice fighter proto and bought just a bunch of trucks at HQ. And i needed the trucks! :D
This scenario was pretty exhausting. Most roads in the mountains were missing (despite the painting on the map) and my army moved northwards with 1 or 2 hex/turn.
I had two battlegroups. The smaller one moved straight northwards along the not existing road near the eastern map edge. This group consisted of some infantry units, the HQ unit and my best gun.
Two units were guarding my VHs: My long-range ATY and its tractor was to slow to go anywhere and i left it behind, plus an infantry unit.
The rest of my army took the long way up to the northwest. There were some enemies left and right in the mountains but i drove past them when possible. These enemies later attacked my VHs. And there must have been more in the mountains, comming down later to attack me. I needed the help of both of my bombers to save my VHs.
Luckily for my western battlegroup there were roads for most of the long way up. Only when i was comming closer to the VHs in the northwest, there were some mountains and missing roads.

I had sent my two paratroopers to the northwest as well, but they couldn't land until my other units arrived. The enemy airfield was guarded by 2 ADs and one ATY. My paratroopers were much to weak to drop out of range of the ADs and then move with 1 hex/turn towards the ATY. The ADs had a spotting rang of 3, which made things harder. I could not drop the paratroopers when it was raining too, because the enemy had an all-weather-combat leadered fighter :no

The fighting was not that hard, but i was to slow, maneuvering through the mountains. So i played until the last turn to get a "normal" victory. Got two leaders, one on a tank and one on an ATY.

Current scenario: Invasion Calcutta

After a two-scenario-stint in the WWI i am back on track for this CC :cool
I had to restart this scenario once after one of my core fighters got shot down after around 11 turns by a AI reinforcement fighter. The enemy fighters are much stronger in this scenario than in the whole campaign before and i didn't expect a late air force reinforcement.

So i restarted and bought the most expensive fighter in the japanese inventory. By coincidence i was able to pay the required 1032pp exactly.

The core plus few aux units are starting in the south of the peninsula, have to break through a defence line and to drive up to the north in order to capture Calcutta. Don't mind the Washington map ;)
After i broke through the first line of defences which were blocking the most southern part of the peninsula i gained ground fast and there was only little fighting. The enemy had only light units and no tanks or heavy artillery.
After some turns a enemy fleet appeared in the south but there was also a aux fleet and after some more turns i could sank them all :cool
The enemy fleet would have been no threat to my forces anyway.

So i was approaching Calcutta while my two paratroopers were capturing a lonely coastal VH.
This time i was able to shoot down all enemy planes and set up my artillery to bombard Calcutta in order to weaken the defences. My long-range gun got a leader, as well as one of the tanks. I broke through the enemy lines around Calcutta kind of easy and the town fell quickly into my hands. I played some more turns to get some more experience and made BV in the last possible turn.

Current scenario: Entry of the Bear: Bandar-e Torkeman

There is a second player country this time: Arab countries. They provided better upgrade options and i decided to upgrade one tank and one fighter. Now i am able to field a range-2 Panzer IV and a Bf 109 :cool

This scenario was pretty relaxed. There is not much to report this time. The enemies were low in numbers and concentrated around the VHs and the central SH/port. Only in the far east it took me until the end to gain the upper hand. But the fighting there had no effect on the outcome of the scenario anyway.

The core starts in the south and mainly followed the road up to the north. Some of my core units got dispatched to the central VH.
My paratroopers took the plane to the east, one captured an airfield and one helped out the aux forces in the far east.
The coastal VH was captured by auxiliary forces alone, with the help of my airforce. Like always, i played until the last BV turn.

Current scenario: Clash at Baghdad

Got another fighter proto and bought a second arab Panzer IV.
When looking at the map and VHs i decided to keep my core together, cross the river in the center and then sent units to the various VHs.
There were some auxiliary units at the southern tip of the island and in the north, where about 6 aux units apperead in several turns.
The aux force at the south of the island got attacked instantly and after some turns they were all gone for good and the AI had captured the VHs there.
When i arrived at the bridge and corssed the river, i got attacked by most of the enemy units on the island. They even had some tanks. The largest tank force in this campaign till today.
I fought them down and prepared to capture the VHs on the island and sent tow units to the western shore of the river. With the help of my air force i took possession of the western VH soon.
Meanwhile the aux forces were able to capture the VH in the north without any help. :yes

When i was preparing to capture the eastern VH with some units i left behind (only 3 units), more and more enemy infantry appeared and attacked my units from northern directions. I had to withdrew a little bit and then waited for more of my core units to arrive on the scene. I had to dispach them from the island and sent them to the east. With joint forces i was able to fight all the enemy infantries down and capture the eastern VH. Finally i made my usual last turn BV.

Current scenario: Failed diplomacy at Golan

At HQ i just upgraded one artillery and bought 2 strength points for 3 guns each.

The tide has turned and now we have to fight against our former allies, the Germans.
The deployment positions didn't favor me and i tried to set up a powerful defence position as fast as possible. The germans fielded a :tiger and some other strong units. Especially the enemy fighters were a pain in my forces' ass. See the remaining strength points of my fighters and you will get an impression about the intensive dog fights. I needed about 10 attacks or so to kill the single Tiger. It got worse, when some enemy paratroopers apperead in my back.

But the more the battle lasted the more i gained the upper hand and in the later turns i was able to move out. The distance was short and the enemy's defences were much weaker than its initial attacks. Got my usual last turn BV.

Current scenario: For the Emperor

Going into the scenario i expected a tough battle and had no idea what to buy. I expected a strong enemy air force and bought 2 ADs. Though i later learned that they had no impact on the outcome of the scenario. One of them even didn't hit the enemy a single time.
I also made the mistake that i didn't use the 1200pp i collected throughout the battle for refits. My usual strict no-refit-policy made sure, that i overlooked the prestige and didn't even think about refits a single time :doh Maybe it would have made things a little easier. Anyway, lets start the Battle:

While the US forces had already established beachheads in the east and southwest, i deployed my core units in two groups. I then builded two defence positions and tried to withstand the enemy attacks. The AI landed more units at the shores while i was only able to damage few enemy naval transports at the entrance to the large Tokyo Bay. The enemy air force was very strong and after half of the turns my planes were to damaged to continue fighting. I lost all aux planes and a core bomber :beatup
In the west i had no problems to stop the enemy attack, but in the east the fighting took much longer. The US had landed a group of strong tanks and mechanized units on the southern part of the eastern peninsula. They drove to the north and clashed into my lines around the eastern airfield. Things got worse when US paratroopers appeared in the east and in my back. The paratroopers attacked my northern airfield and were able to capture my VH/SH and defend it for some turns. Eventually i was able to wear the paratroopers down and recaptured the VH.

At the start of the scneario i had some aux forces in the southeast and tried to hide them in the woods and mountains of the eastern peninsula. I was only able to save 3 of them and lost all the others to naval support fire. In the later turns a aux battleship and submarine appeared and i was able to sink the enemy cruiser (ar was it a battleship?). Then i shelled the southern VH with my battleship and with a destroyer.
In the later turns i also tried to disperse my units and keep them away from my own VHs to make it harder for the enemy to find and bomb my units with its planes

Meanwhile i had repelled the enemy attacks and marched out to capture both beachhead VHs in the southwest and east.
In the south i cleared the VH by naval bombardment and sent a damaged aux unit to capture the VH and made a very lucky last turn tactical victory.

I liked the campaign and can only recommend to play it. Of course it lacks the modern features of Open General but the battles are interesting and fun to play :cool Though there are limited upgarde options and i was unable to stay below the cap.
For my next CC i had planned to take the other way round and cross the pacific from east to west, playing the US campaign CC42, but the announcement talks about bunker stacks and i will play the first 3 or 4 scenario before i will decide to make it a "official" CC run or not.
