Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum. I've been playing OG for a few years now and the recent confinement situation and using videoconferencing has led me to want to try playing with an old friend of mine who lives in Japan.
We originally tried to play by e-mail (Panzer General 2) back in the late 90's but just couldn't get it to work. I thought we could try with Open General. But I have a few questions. My original game was deleted form my computer and need to re-install everything. So Aside from the basic "installer" that I read must be installed;
-Do I need to install any patches or equipment, map files?
-If so please tell me which ones so that my game is as "complete" as needed to really and fully enjoy playing OG.
-Also, how is the play by e-mail now?-
-Finally, is there a way to play 1Vs.1 live?
I would like to thank in advance anybody with helpful comment and instructions. Really Thank you. My friend and I have been trying to do this for 20 years!
Luc

Re: Multiplayer game. What do I need to know?
Hi Luc and to the forums
I'm not 100% sure as i never did multiplayer, but as for the "complete" install...
1) http://www.open-general.com/install/Ins ... eneral.exe
full installer includes all UI and engine files as well as the game editor, all official Efiles ( "mods", but without at least 1 efile you cannot play), these Efiles in turn include campaigns and standalone scenarios
2) http://opengeneral.pl/files/OG_map_5.06.exe
map package for campaigns released since 2009 (includes all released maps up to 12.02.2020 - beware, its a 1GB download)
3) http://www.open-general.com/install/pg2_maps.zip
map package for older campaigns
(4)) http://www.open-general.com/installer-ccpack.php
not strictly necessary. The CC-Efiles are for Campaign Challenges, which take place every now and then. For more info, visit the CC-Forum:
viewforum.php?f=13
The CC-Efiles use the same maps from points 2) and 3)
5) if you run into missing maps, OpenGeneral includes an updater - it can automatically download missing maps while playing, if you have an active internet connection. Or you can manually download missing maps at selected points in time:
start OG, doubleclick to "actively" load the the Efile for which you want to check and download (necessary step, OpenGen checks the "active" Efile instead of the "selected/highlighted" one), again go to the Efile selection, and then click on the "check & DL missing" button
6) for an online community which does PBEM, visit the Panzerliga (it is mostly a German forum, but they have an English section):
